Is womanhood something anyone can opt into by believing it in one's head, making a public affirmation, dressing in typically feminine ways and using makeup, or using modern medical means to more closely resemble someone of the opposite sex? Any of those? Feminism has historically been about advocating for women based on their shared biology without regard for social roles, motherhood, marital status, conformity to feminine stereotypes, etc. A woman is a woman whether she has children or not, acts and looks masculine or feminine or androgynous, falls in love with other women or men or both. This ideology seems to be reducing womanhood and manhood to a bundle of stereotypes or a religious assertion about gendered souls in wrong bodies. Perhaps I am wrong. If so, I am willing to learn. This is something I have changed my mind on after feeling pretty laissez-faire about it a decade or so ago. It took a while, and some sincere and sober examination, to realize the real harm being done.

For six years I worked at the psychiatric hospital in Colorado that took the Trinidad .patients for evaluation before their transition. IME both Male and Female transitioning were far more comfortable with the gender they were transitioning to. The ones who weren’t didn’t pass the pre-surgery eval. I’m a lesbian, I’m a mother, I’m a grandmother- I, nor my wife, would fit into woman “stereotype”- in fact most identity their gender more nuanced than you describe. FWIW- all humans start out with the same parts (female.) it’s the added Y gene that tells the clitoris to grow into a penis and the ovaries to descend into testes. FYI my daughter’s father was born with both parts in transition- 65 years ago they had to guess which sex he was. He even required hormone therapy during puberty. Years later a chromosome test showed he did have the Y gene. Humans are far more complex than most know.
