Just found your channel… real easy guy to listen to. Fast forward a few years, LT also makes real nice kydex, fit specific to your knife if bought together… just call them up direct and order the kydex with the kinfe instead of the leather that most all retailers sell the knife with.

Nice review Dave. I know your reviews are simply truthful and it’s this one that helped me decide on a Genesis for myself. I also have always had to buy less expensive items that are high quality as I’m just starting out with my channel. This will be my first bushcraft knife of this price range. I trust your opinion along with Larry Roberts and a few others. Thank you for your honesty and I intend to do the same.

Hey Dave, Greetings from BC. I hope you are well prepped for winter! Another fine review in your honest and practical style. This is the Scandi version, they also do a Sabre grind version I understand. Good points raised about the hierarchy of knife materials, that stuff drives me nuts, but as you say this Genesis Knife has incorporated a lot of ideas developed in other knives that are good and practical into one product. The spearpoint blade reminds me somewhat of the Condor Bushlore. As you know, not unlike yourself, I repurpose old tools a lot, I also have bought the occasional hand made knife and also make a few knives. The price point of this knife is not ridiculously high for what it is and the thought that has gone into it, the last knife I made of D2 Steel probably cost me $150-$200 CDN in materials and a lot of labour. At $250 I would not be making a living, just covering materials and a small percentage of my time. Yes A2 is a great Steel even today (as is 01/D2 and 80CRV2 to mention a few) I just hate it when people get all agitated and protective about the latest and greatest 'super steel' knife they have paid 400, 500 or more dollars for. I would only comment that the one thing a shop bought knife cannot offer the user is a custom fit handle, and that can be a huge issue in real life situations; that said, I notice the shape of the handle on the Genesis is not fancy, convoluted or 'radical' (pun intended buddy)!...allowing a good compromise on functionality and sustained comfort. I also note this is a Scandi Grind and I have seen Sabre Grind as well...what is your preference?
@Bushradical
@Bushradical 6 лет назад
Thanks for the comment WS. As for grind preference ...I don't really have a good opinion I guess. I like the Skandi, but I don't think Ive ever used a saber grind. Whats you choice?
@redcanoe14
@redcanoe14 6 лет назад
I have little experience with Sabre Grind, I modified one of my Scandi Knives to Sabre and it is a great slicer and made fine feathers easily. Two factors govern the woodcrafting ability of a blade in my experience, thickness of blade relative to depth of grind. I have seen a lot of contemporary bushcraft knives with 5mm to 6mm blades that have very shallow grinds resulting in steep edge angles, the physics of this does not work well other than batoning (which I do not do). More knives are getting back to the 1/8th inch thickness of blade and with deeper grinds, for me these are much easier to work with and plenty strong enough if of a good steel that is well heat treated and annealed. Just look at the Finnish/ Sami Puukko knives, they are usually about 1/8th" thick with a wide grind bevel and they have been perfected for real life conditions over the centuries. I also made a D2 blade with a scandi grind then modified it to convex, harder to sharpen and needs more practice to use effectively, BUT very good carving, making feather sticks and edge retention.

@@alanmeyers3957 I think I have grown up a bit since I originally made that comment. Great review friend👍🏻 Wow judging by the sheath you use your belt knives a lot. They sell the sheaths at there website for around 40 bucks I believe? With mine my brother brought me 2 rare earth magnets home from work and I strapped them around the sheath with a ranger band. Do you think the price is fair? My opinion is if you are a person that uses your knife a lot its kinda like buying an expensive pair of boots that will last
@Bushradical
@Bushradical 6 лет назад
Good question. As for the price , Ive never owned a knife in the $200 range...nothing even close. I don't know if I would have ever spent that kind of money on a knife. That said, having owned the Genesis for a month and a half now, I would have to say its probably worth the money. The quality is top shelf , the fit and finish is perfect, great sheath, top end materials, made in America... it 'should' add up to a couple hundred bucks. It is expensive....but its not "over priced" in my opinion. Living the kind of lifestyle Brooke and I live, I can generally wear a knife on my belt all day everyday...I don't have an office job you know.... And Ive been carrying this one most everyday since I got it, and Ive been on the woods cutting and splitting wood for the winter. So, this knife has been well used in the time I've had it. I would have never had one of these if you hadn't told me I should check it out...Thanks Spider
@spider5001
@spider5001 6 лет назад
Bushradical no problem friend 🙂 Tell your wife Brooke to ask to review another model😂 These do have a lifetime warranty. If it breaks they will replace it. So for the 200 you actually get a knife for life or as long as the company is in business. The thing about LT Wright I’ve noticed is they really want their knives to be used and not sitting in a glass case. I really believe that he is probably proud that somebody like you that depends on a belt knife so much is wearing his.

@Airik1111bibles
@Airik1111bibles 6 лет назад
Like you I wear my sheaths and use um, one area they and others fail is using only 1 rivet for the belt loop. UGH! It drives me insane when the loop gets stretched out and the one rivet always causes it to be way worse. One more rivet isn't much money to add yet makes a HUGE difference, stitching would be great but thats spendy for company's so I understand. I bought one of Mora's Garberg knives with their leather sheath and it to came with one rivet, it was beautiful out of box. Needless to say after a month or two it became so sloppy cause of that magical 1 rivet LOL😉 Good vid man BUT ya never said "i like it" or "it works awesome" or "save your money and just sharpen your 1075" ROFL😂

Glad it worked out for you, Dave. A2 is my favoured steel. The sheaths, in factory condition, suck though. They’re quality materials but the fit is very poor, even wetforming doesn’t improve it a great deal. They need wetforming and hardening (waxes) and then they’re ok. That’s my only gripe with LTW stuff. Same with BHK. Both are quality no frills knives that you can depend on.
@Bushradical
@Bushradical 6 лет назад
My sheath "DID" fit tight until I removed some of the handle. But I did go ahead and wet form it and its nice and tight now.
@Wolf_K
@Wolf_K 6 лет назад
Bushradical They all fit right to start with but they all end up sloppy with use. Even once tight from wetforming they will end up loose again from repeated use. It’s the downside to a one type fits all sheath. Wax impregnation is about the best thing to do, or a small Kydex insert. The kydex is a permanent solution, the wax impregnation is semi permanent. Either way, it’s not a deal breaker.

Weird review man I mean thank you very much for the work you put into it but the bottom line is this knife did not work for you. you had to take it to a grinder! the bottom line of this review should have been this knife did not work for me and I would not have bought it with my own money, instead it was 10 minutes of how awesome it is when really it just didn't work out of the box, you had to modify it heavily. (to the point that the sheath was far from usable) and again thank you very much for the work,it is greatly appreciated.
