Legal hits are from the front or the side of the person, above the waste and below the helmet. They can't be from behind. They have to be within 5 yards of the ball, or they have to be in possession of the ball. You have to have both hands on your stick, and you can't cross check, which is having your hands spaced out so that some of your stick is showing, and using that part of the stick to push the person. Anything else is legal.

If you play Football, giving a good hit is the same almost. You aim for the numbers, get low and get a good center of balance, gain momentum if possible, then make sure to drive through the person your hitting, or else your just pushing him down or away and not knocking the crap out of him. But don't just go for hits, take them when it's possible. And just a tip, but try to do it if they're not keeping their head up on a ground ball or something, that's a mistake on their part so punish them

A few of those hits were illegal. Hands have to be put together and you can only hit below the neck and above the waist. No spearing, high hits, cross checks, or hits from behind. 0:45 and 1:25 are examples of what NOT to do.

hey dude.... dont be focused on take out checks..trust me ive played defender for a while and they rarely happen.... just lead with ur stick and hit em hard its more exciting then running them over.....but if there is a ground ball that everyone is going for just just hmmm no words can sum up what to do....just fuck em up if there is a ground ball or a pass that there trying to watch into there head...

work on your leg strength and just lower your shoulder and keep those feet chopping, really you should be working on stick checks because that is gonna be your staple and you are only in middle school you'll get taller don't worry about it, i'm 5'11", foot work and stick checks are more important than hitting, work on fundementals and the hits will come.

defenseman are the best athletes on the field. you look at all the recruiting stuff and you see that all the defenseman were beast multi sport athletes who raped at 2 or 3 sports and could have gone D1 in all the sports they played. Look at Dan Cocoziello, Johnathan Meyers, Joey Ehrmann (plays football at wake Forest), Chad Weidmaier, Nicky Polanco (almost played in NFl, ken clausen, ryan mcfayden (played football for duke last season.) defenseman are 100% pure athletes
