To continue episode 52, we take our Thermal fused Laminate (TFL) and glue the panels to our 8020 Extruded Aluminum.
I am very happy to announce that the process work flawlessly and it looks better than I could have ever imagined.. I am super confident in our choice on this project and super excited to share the next step with you!!!

Yeah, you you’re going to have a much bigger refrigerator freezer than I do but my refrigerator freezer opens like an ice chest and sits between the two front seats so I can get into it without even pulling over to the curb to park. That’s very handy if you’re by yourself and don’t have someone to go fetch something out of the refrigerator for you when you’re driving.

Watching this, I have to say I'd be tempted to put up complete panels, and then cut out the openings after they're attached. Most of that could be down with a flush trim router bit. The corners would be require some careful work, but it might be easier.

Aussie lifer here, loving the build DD. and the truth you spout. Got a tip to get rid of your wasp problem: peppermint and citrus essential oils in a spray bottle, spray the cover every few days or so, its like pepper spray/egg bomb to them, doesn't kill em, but makes them know your spa isn't for rent to die. It's good for the van too once you travel, keeps mice, spiders, and most other nasties annoying the "other guy" instead of you.

Great video. I love when you show all the missteps. Happens to us all. I assume if you knew you would glue the laminate to the 8020 originally, you would have bought the 8020 without the groove on the front? More surface area for the glue. Or is the groove somehow better? I cannot imagine how. Looks amazing.

Dude, I'm here on November 1, 2021 binge watching your content (subscribed a few days ago) and I have no idea who Max and Lee are but I will go research it. Anyway, point is I got the gist that one of them committed suicide. I then look at the date and my heart sank ... hard ... this episode was released on April 11. My 17 year old son, 6 weeks from his 18th birthday committed suicide on April 17th. It's been a very tough year brother and even harder on those of us still here who are on the other side of that coin. Trust me, I've contemplated it more than once in my 47 years on earth, but I have too many obligations (wife, children, etc.) to really commit to the decision. Anyway, I had to pause to make this comment and thank you for speaking out on this subject.

Could you glue the laminate face to the 80/20 & wood trim BEFORE you cut the holes? Open each hole with a hole saw then use a laminate router (search for laminate counter top) to finish the holes to match the edge of the 80/20 or wood trim. Did you use a J-roller on the laminate? Your website is very helpful; thanks. Jack

I remember my bees always were attracted to a neighbours hot tub, we traced it back to the salts they were using in the water that became an attractant. I assume wasps may be attracted to similar salts, so maybe that's why you're seeing them? Actually now that I have zoomed in on that shot, the profiles definitely resemble honeybees more than wasps to me. I'm not sure wasps are active yet as it's too soon for their population to have built up yet. Do you have any beekeepers in the neighbourhood?

Id almost see if you could glue up whole sheet with out any cut outs. Then take a drywall roto zip follow the 80/20 and cut out the openings. It may be a simpler and quicker process. Otherwise another great video

In hindsight I think you should have Hired one of those giant forklifts they can pick up cars from the end and taken the wheels off of your van and put it inside the garage to work on. Would it have fit under your door opening with no wheels? With all the trouble and expense you went to with your outdoor shelter and the weather issues and the cost of heating it I think you could’ve jackhammer the concrete out of your garage in the spot where you’re putting the van and replace the concrete later for less money and you would’ve been a lot more comfortable and wasted a lot less time rebuilding your shelter. In most places they wouldn’t of even allowed you to build that temporary structure

Wow. A 120 tooth circular blade in the size for that little battery op Dewalt? I had one from Diablo for my 12 inch compound sliding miter chopsaw Until I knocked about 10 of the teeth off of it one day.

Nice material looking at it myself for my build for the weight reduction. but for the 80 dollar delivery fee, you could rent a truck from lowes/Home depot for $20.

Jef why didn’t you use a couple of those Dewalt clamps that works so great to attach a narrow stiffener on each side of your cut out panel so it doesn’t break again while you’re climbing in the van?

Sorry about your mother. Forgive yourself just like you know she would want you to. I did a similar thing when I was 14 and my mother was in the hospital but unfortunately nobody told me she might die and she was only 51 so I eventually forgave myself.

I have been looking at them.. But I i only want to build one van so the long term value diminishes fast!! This may take longer but it achieves an acceptable result!
