HELLO TROOPY. My brand new, 2017 model Toyota Land Cruiser Troopy V8 has arrived, but before I make any changes or begin the process of preparing it for outback touring in Australia, I take a look at what my money has bought me.
This is part-6 of my Toyota Land Cruiser 4,5 V8 overland touring truck in Western Australia.

These are the strongest field SUV ever built . I used to drive one while on a United Nations mission in the Sahara desert , North Africa. Oh my u will love how it cruises in sand like it was born there. So powerful..built for work in any condition.

Can't wait to see this custom build completed. I'm a Aussie living in California. What you pay is what you get, it may not have all the trendy bells and whistles like the 4x4 trucks here in the USA (disposable society) but its a fantastic, dependable platform ready to go with the proper driveline and chassis build that will go on forever and rarely let you down. It will hold its resale value and that'll put a smile on your face :). My dad in Sydney bought a 91 GXL Landcruiser (6cyl petrol) with low kms in 92. He sold it in 2011 for about 10K AUD just shy of 400,000 with the original motor, clutch and driveline. The only repairs it had was a new radiator, window regulator, radio antenna and replaced the shocks all round. We used it for camping throughout Oz, the Flinders Ranges, Gammon Ranges and Karting (Go Kart) racing in NSW, QLD, SA, VIC and TAS plus many trips on the beach to Fraser Island and Stockton Beach. Even in its old age the chassis and doors still felt solid and tight. So many great memories for the family thanks to our trusty Landcruiser :) Congrats Andrew all the best!

Mate, ordered my 2021 78 series last year September. Finally get to pick it up in October. My opinion, they are simply built awesome. They are designed to go off road and last a very long time. Just simply easy to use.

Congratulations Andrew! Love the channel, I'm wanting a vdj Troopy more and more each day but will have to sacrifice my BJ74 MWB (I like referring to it as the mini Troopy) and I just can't. On my travels lately I called into the place that just so happens to be where this is going next and its going to be amazing. As you stated at the end of this video the possibilities for this model here in Australia and particularly WA are incredible.

Keep doing what you are doing and just tell it how it is. Can't wait to see which direction you take on correcting the narrower rear axle. The track width/ridge issue is quite interesting. Never thought of that but have experienced the aggravation of bring pulled about by other trucks ridges. Cheers on another great video.

OMG, The level of your excitement compared to when you picked up the 79 series dual cab is SO obvious. I am so glad for you. I cringed when I paid for my 2017 Rubicon, but had the same level of excitement. At our age/ what the heck. Just enjoy life with your new toy. Oh and share the adventures with us.

Excited to see the transformation. As an American with a fully upfitted 4-door overlanding Jeep Wrangler, it's nice to see modern Defender or Land Cruisers. We mostly see Jeeps and Tacomas (starting to see Sprinters).

Andrew congrats with your new car! That's my dream car! Some advise on fuel contamination prevention, I had similar issues with a hilux Double cab 1kd-ftv and what I got was a plastic inline diesel filter a friend of mine gave me from Italy. We fitted the filter just at the exit point of the fuel tank (before fuel gets to primary filter) and it worked wonders. That very light you were warned about hardly came on after that, meaning my primary filter was well protected and every 20,000km I changed the inline filter. Note on the hilux the pipes straight out of the tank are rubber. I am sure land cruiser is the same. Enjoy your car and cannot wait to see the end result!

Ive got a 79 that's 9 months old and went camping in the sand on the weekend. Never got stuck once. Patrols were digging holes everywhere and trenches and getting stuck. I havent been getting rear axle widenings. They really are a great car. First thing I would do is get some decent wheels and wider tyres. That will improve ride and traction but also wont body roll as much. I love my ute

I have to agree the price is outrageous and the narrow rear axle is shocking from a manufacturer like Toyota, but I'd have to say that they have the concept right, strong, reliable, simple and powerful. My D3/LR3 only has 2 of these and my Defender the other 2 😂.

Ten to twenty years to come the 79 series is going to be the classic off road symbol like the landrover series I & II.. So I agree with the land cruiser not to change anything on the look of the car, for me updating only the engine is enough. .. If anyone want confortability and luxury go for land cruiser 200 series or prado. .. Just leave the 79 series alone to remain classic...

Nice review andrew. You did not let your love for the vehicle bias your comments. I drive a 76 and feel the same. So many things I hate about it! but would not drive any other 4x4. The best in its class.... period.

It,s a shame that these are not available in Europe. I have a 78 with 1HZ engine. I bought it new in 2000 and now in 2021 i will get the same price i bought it for. If i would sell it......!!! Never of coarse. It has gone 260.000km now and the only thing i replaced are 2x the batteries, 1x exhaust, 1 pair of front brake pads, and one gasket in rear axle. THAT's IT! I'm aware, if i will sell this "best friend" than NOTHING can replace it. Like your channel :-) and all the best from Sweden.

I loved the green one you built! Great to see you in another Troopy. But holy cow! That thing costs way too much money for what you get. And to have the wheel track problem on top of it! I'm surprised a company like Toyota let that go. A wider diff and some rear fender flares and problem solved!
