The mammals that produce Vitamin C from simple glucose produce Vitamin C in their tissues at the rate of 8,000-10,000mgs./day (adjusted equivalent for humans) I believe do so and Not to go beyond tissue saturation. So how to explain humans achieving tissue saturation at so much lower levels ?? Something doesn't quite compute. Something doesn't quite jive. No matter. Linus Pauling died at the age of 93 of prostate cancer. He attributes his long life to the consumption of Large Doses of vitamin Vit. C Not the amount of Vit. C that is mentioned in this blog. I am 77 years old and I've been taking at least 3 gms of Vitamin C daily. 1 gm of ester C at lunch and at supper and 1 gm of liposomal Vit.C before going to bed. Linus Pauling has been a Nobel Laureate for chemistry and was almost close to being successful in discovering the DNA structure. So I am sticking to his advice. I think for most of us, trying to reach the age of 90 is not smooth sailing, a fatal illness or a fatal accident is a possibility for everyone. From what I've read so far those those who lived past 100 never thought or even planed to live past 100. Genes and luck are probably as important as exercise, good diet and a healthy lifestyle.

@countyfair74

@@DirtyDemon917 Yes, it is Vitamin C. Linus Pauling only took ascorbic acid. He explained why in his 1986 book "How to Live Longer and Feel Better". In that book he explained his reasoning behind taking the various supplements he did. Some of the important Vitamin C research that has come after Pauling died has been from the Linus Pauling Institute (at the University of Oregon State). Some of it contradicts his findings, they make a case for why large doses are not beneficial.

My father lived to the ripe old age of 91 on what most people would consider a terrible diet: lots of sugar with every meal, a diet of bread and jam, lots of high carbohydrate processed foods, and he never took vitamin C or any other vitamins. So should we praise sugar and all the other junk he ate as promoting longevity? Yet that is what you are doing with vitamin C.

nutrients are not drugs. Just giving vitamin c is dumb and worthless. People in these studies should be given every single vitamin, mineral, amino acid and essential fatty acid known to man then be observed. Doing one single nutrient is wothless and these studies will always be bad due to this. They always just do a single , synthetic low dose vitamin in studies. then say it doesnt work , then push big pharma drugs. It's obvious. Dumb on purpose. Deceptive destruction of truth vitatlity. I’m a Veterinarian so I understand a few things. My 3 year old daughter would get sick every 2 or 3 months, sore throat, cough then bronchitis and fever. Her doctor would give antibiotics and other medicines and a week latter she would be ok until the next episode, and the next etc etc. I tried homeopathic treatment, did not work, then herbal treatments, did not work. Last resort was 125 mg a day of vitamin C divided in 2 doses. SHE NEVER GOT SICK AGAIN. When she was 5 years old I doubled the dose, and at 10 years of age she was taking 1 gram. She’s now 20, still takes a gram a day and never got sick again. I have recommended this protocol to many parents that had the same or similar problems with their kids with the same results. We all use vitamin C in my home. The secret is to take it every day. Never miss a dose.

In all of these studies very little amount of vitamin C was used. I do not care what they have found out. When I have a fever, I take about 10-15 grams of vitamin C and thereafter I keep taking more vitamin C until I reach my bowl tolerance. Whithin few hours I feel far better. My bowl tolerance of vitamin C is considerably lower when I am not sick. If I do not take vitamin C when I have a fever, it lasts much longer. I take about 3 grams of vitamin C before I sleep, it makes me sleep much less and when I wake up, I am very energetic and well rested. I have tried many times not taking vitamin C before bed and everytime I have done so, I have slept at least 2 hours longer and do not feel as rested and energetic when I wake up. The amounts of vitamin C used in these studies is very insignificant and the results are not statistically significant. I encourage people to experiment with hight doses of vitamin C and see for themselves how effective HIGH DOSES of vitamin C really is. It is a water soluble vitamin, therefore, you will not harm yourself when take hight does.

Unfortunately, Vitamin C supplements likely worsens athletic performance: "Research findings: Do not directly improve performance; appear to hinder some physiological and physical exercise-induced adaptations" ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/ExerciseAndAthleticPerformance-HealthProfessional/ When you exercise, you cause an inflammatory and oxidative state which is a good thing in the short term. It signals to the body that it needs to adapt and become more efficient. If you can anti-oxidants such as vitamin C supplements during or after a workout, you interfere with that response and blunt it, thereby blunting the positive effects of exercise...
@JohnSlack89
@JohnSlack89 Год назад
@@DrBradStanfield Thank you very much for your reply. I apologize, please let me clarify - I was specifically talking about increased fatty acid oxidation to produce ATP (as can only happen in the mitochondria). Vitamin C is essential for the synthesis of carnitine which is required to shuttle most fatty acids into the mitochondria for beta oxidation. Further evidence for increased fatty acid oxidation comes from mouse models wherein supplemented mice also exhibited increased levels of PPAR-alpha, a protein that regulates fat metabolism by increasing uptake and utilization. In my attempts to maximize my mitochondrial number, size, and efficiency, I want to give my body its best chance for positive adaptation in addition to lots of zone 2 exercise. Patrick also addresses the studies reporting blunted effects from exercise. I greatly appreciate all you do for scientific communication. I am not trying to be confrontational, but just want to ensure we're all considering all the evidence.
@DrBradStanfield
@DrBradStanfield Год назад
Absolutely John, I enjoy these types of conversations. The concern I have is that for basically every supplement, one can do some mechanistic reasoning based on cell or mice data that sounds convincing. In my view, what matters is the human clinical studies that investigate firm endpoints. So far when looking at cancer, diabetes, weight loss, cardiovascular disease, liver, etc there are no benefits from Vitamin C supplements. We also have concerning data as outlined above about blunting the positive effects of exercise. My overall point is that there's no strong evidence of benefit, we get plenty from out diet, so why use money to buy vitamin C supplements?

@@DrBradStanfield Lowest all cause mortality was found around 80 micromolars circulating blood level of vitamin c based upon a meta analysis of 8 studies according to Dr. Lustgarten. Dr. Lustgarten further stated that at least one study suggested that 1000mg of vitamin c per day was typically needed to reach 80 micromolar. That's way higher than the RDA. That's achievable through food, but it's not all that easy to get there. Now it could be that people that have high circulating vit c are doing other things that are causing them to live longer and it may not be the vitamin c itself. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MNcfDzhXuRw.html

At the same time, I had major issues with my knees. My right knee was the worst. I couldn't run, instead of a straight line I would curve to the right, my knee would buckle, and I would collapse on the floor in pain. If I knock the inside of my leg a shooting pain would go up my leg and the pain would last awhile. $-6 weeks of taking vitamin C my knees got better. After 8-10 months my knees went back to normal. If I stop taking vitamin C for awhile the pain starts to come back. I also noticed an improvement with backpain. I am now a firm believer in vitamin C. Currently, take 4000mg x 2-4 per day. Every 4-6 hours. Noticed a slight improvement with the cold, but not a lot. Vitamin D seemed to have a major impact on that though.

Actually when combined with lysine (ascorbic acid by itself - not bound to a mineral) in the right amounts will clear clogged arteries by healing the damage to the cell walls and the lysine will remove the plaques. The combination forms "cross link' collagen to patch the damaged cell wall so the body doesn't need to patch it any longer with plaque. The plaque is there to keep you from dying but it is supposed to be temporary. When the nutrients are not available more plaque forms and this continues until something gets stuck in it.

Intravenous vitamin C could be a potential treatment for certain cancers, but we still know very little in this regard. You need to have a high level of it in your bloodstream to become potentially toxic toward certain cancer cells. Sadly, studies have been inconclusive. However, I've read that liposomal vitamin C could also offer similar benefits. It's just that you need to drink it every few hours to saturate your body.

There is some evidence to suggest that vitamin C may be beneficial in the healing of brain injuries. Studies have shown that vitamin C may help to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, which are common after a brain injury. In addition, vitamin C has been shown to have neuroprotective effects, meaning that it can help to protect the brain from further damage. One study published in the Journal of Neurotrauma found that high-dose vitamin C therapy was associated with improved outcomes in patients with traumatic brain injury. The study found that patients who received high-dose vitamin C had lower levels of inflammation and oxidative stress, as well as improved cognitive function and physical recovery. While these findings are promising, more research is needed to fully understand the role that vitamin C plays in brain injury healing. If you have suffered a brain injury, it is important to work closely with your healthcare provider to determine the best course of treatment for your individual needs. Free Research Preview. The Effectivity of Vitamin C in Brain Injury Healing: Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is a powerful antioxidant that plays a crucial role in several biological processes. It helps to protect the body against oxidative stress caused by free radicals, which can damage cells and tissues. In the context of brain injury, vitamin C has been found to have several benefits. Firstly, vitamin C helps to reduce inflammation in the brain. Inflammation is a natural response to injury, but when it becomes chronic, it can cause further damage to the brain tissue. Vitamin C can help to reduce inflammation by neutralizing the pro-inflammatory cytokines that are released after a brain injury. Secondly, vitamin C plays a role in the formation of collagen, a protein that is essential for the formation and repair of tissues, including brain tissue. Collagen helps to strengthen the blood vessels in the brain, reducing the risk of further damage from trauma or stroke. Thirdly, vitamin C has been shown to improve cognitive function in TBI patients. A study published in the Journal of Neurotrauma found that high-dose vitamin C supplementation improved cognitive function in TBI patients. The researchers concluded that vitamin C could be an effective adjunct therapy in the management of TBI. Recommended Dosages of Vitamin C for Brain Injury Healing: The recommended dosage of vitamin C for brain injury healing depends on several factors, including the severity of the injury, the patient's age, weight, and overall health. In general, a dosage of 1000mg to 2000mg per day is recommended for TBI patients. However, it is important to note that high doses of vitamin C can cause side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, and stomach cramps. Patients should consult with their healthcare provider before starting vitamin C supplementation.

Numerous other doctors are saying that megadosing vitamin C has been proven to have astounding effects on multiple health outcomes. These reviews maybe the gold standard for forming conclusions on a given research topic, but if those studies poor in quality in the first place, are they even relevant? What on earth is supplementing 500 milligrams of vitamin C gonna do to someone who is ill? The Lysine and Proline are in powder form as well from BulkSupplemets off of Amazon. I buy in 1kg resealable bags. This is a substantial savings over buying in smaller quantities. I just refill my small containers. Another supplement to be on is magnesium glycinate when magnesium is up. Calcium is down. Lysine and Proline I take 8 grams per day. Magnesium glycinate 800mg. If you're really interested in this, I follow Dr. Thomas Levy, cardiologist. I've used Vitamin C for years. I smoked when I was in my early 30's (I'm 55 now) for about 5 years, a pack per day. At some point, I had mucous buildup and was congested and coughing. Prior to that, there were no issues. I quite for a bit and was fine. Resumed smoking and was also fine. When I evaluated the situation, I found that during the time with the mucous issue, I had stopped taking Vitamin C. I was suprised. I then again stopped taking the Vitamin C while smoking as a test and, sure enough, the mucous issue came back. Vitamin C must have some quality that protects the lungs. Can you explain?

I used to take 1g Vit C every day and never got covid or the common cold, until I ran out and didn't bother to restock. I got sick at least 5 times in the last year, including covid. I started taking it again. It's cheap and easy to source, so I strongly disagree that it's a waste of money!

I have HPA Axis dysfunction, vitamin C has massively improved my health from fatigue to mental clarity and stopped constant heart pounding, prescribed by a function medical doctor. Many of the commenters seem to have also had improvement with vitamin C, this defiantly makes me more keen on giving things a try rather than depending on 1 doctor's opinion.

The basic problem of these studies is the amount of Vitamin C and intake, The basic Vitamin C demand is best calculated by the body weight (25 to 50 mg per kg body weight) and that vitamin c shouldn't taken at once. The intake shoud strech over the whole day in 10 or more small portions of 200 mg. And if you as somebody with an academic degree should produce better review then recite stufies which are based on false assumptions.

Dr Brad Stanfield is an honest guy. He is reporting studies with his own interpretation and experience. Linus Pauling is father of vitamin c therapies. I expect anti-vitamin C studies to take centre stage because vitamin C has no money to be made. As far as personal experience goes, vitamin C in high doses, over 4 grams a day provided miraculous benefits to me, it cleared my skin of hyperpigmentation after few weeks, it fights constipation which is root cause for huge number of diseases, provided energy boost and better diet control. I have seen very weak patients get huge boost of energy almost immediately after infusion of 32 grams of vitamin c. Vitamin C also helps recycling of glutathione, another master antioxidant. For prevention of heart diseases, you need to have adequate levels of other vitamins like D and E also alongwith C. For flu recovery, C along with zinc is necessary. Also vitamin C cannot carry the entire load, it has huge synergistic impact. One part where i agree with the good doctor is that diet of fruits and vegetables can fulfill your requirements of vitamin C.

As an experiment, Iv been taking between 14-20 gms of ascorbic powder and vit c tablets combo everyday for 4 days . The results are astounding 😮 2018 I was diagnosed with arthritis of spine and pelvis and it got progressively worse , the past few years iv drastically changed my diet cut out ALL the nasties you can think of , and regularity take supplements. And am on hrt too . The pain , especially in the mornings and at night in bed ante unbearable. I don’t take any pharmaceutical medication. Despite this protocol, my joint pain and acute stiffness of spine and pelvis , elbows and hands persisted. High dosing with vitamin C , and just day 1 , I’d say my pain reduced by 70% .

As for Keto diet - vitamin c has the same receptors as sugar . When cancer grows it uses glycolysis aka glucose . Your body competes with glucose which is why KETO works . Ketosis starves the cancer .

This is a great video. My hunch is that one of the reasons vitamin C became associated with cardiovascular health might have as much to do with problems that can be caused by a lack of vitamin C as with a supposition that health can be improved by an overabundance of it. Everyone learns about scurvy in grammar school, but my respect for vitamin C increased further some years later when I read about studies done on guinea pigs. When the guinea pigs were deprived of vitamin C, in addition to normal outward symptoms of scurvy, the guinea pigs showed horrific cardiovascular degradation. I try to maintain a good diet with lots of vegetables, but it does have ups and downs, so since reading those studies some 30 or so years ago, I have always taken a modest vitamin C supplement (250mg) to ensure that I at least maintain a baseline.
