That goal was unreal. Samsonov just staring at it 3 feet in front of him. Leafs D all flatfooted. Nylander flatfooted. Marner's head in space while Boston's best goal scorer goes past him like he's a traffic cone. What a complete team failure that goal was. Absolutely staggering that these people even made it to game 7. Brutal, brutal defensive forwards with no hockey sense compared to their peers.

I promise you that even if Marner leaves the leafs will be the exact same team in the playoffs next year!! Count on it!

On the Pasta overtime goal, both Nylander and Marner looked like their controller ran out of juice. You know when you play the EA Sports NHL game and your controller goes dead? The player you were controlling just ends up gliding in a straight line.

It wouldn't matter if Marner put up 15 points in this series and they lose to Boston in 7 and to Leaf fans it would never be good enough. The rest of the big 4 do nothing and that is an acceptable performance. Best case is Marner moves somewhere in the East and gets the Leafs in round 1 next year and then lights their asses up.

I see no world where Marner doesn't waive his NMC. The fans have been calling for his head for a couple years now and his performance in these playoffs (along with JT) was unacceptable considering what they're paying him.

Marner should leave, and then win a cup, like Kessel, Bozak, Kadri. The reality is Sheldon Keefe is a terrible coach. A good coach doesn't allow a star like marner to play the way he plays in the playoffs.

Enough hate on Marner. The guy has 50 points in 57 playoff games. Matthews, meanwhile, has done *nothing* in the playoffs. Talk about a guy who doesn't step up and waits around for something to happen...that's Matthews!! Crosses the blueline, dishes off to Marner or Nylander or whoever to actually make a play, then figure skates around the O-zone trying to get open for one of his teammates to feed him the puck with a perfect seam pass for a high-chance one-timer. He *never* beats a defender one-on-one carrying the puck!! NEVER! Never even tries! And when those open cross-ice seam passes are no longer there come playoff time...POOF! He disappears like the proverbial rabbit in the hat. But go ahead, trade Marner. But Leafs Nation's 'MVP' never sniffs 50 goals again. And unless he changes *his* game, he'll still fall flat in the playoffs.

If you can't trade Marner, you basically just let his contract come off the books even if you lose him for nothing. You also let Tavares' contract come off the books the same way.

The Leafs problem is not just that Mitch Marner needs to go. The Leafs problem is that there are no $11 Million/year players on Toronto. It's that simple.

Matthews won't be happy if they try to move Marner. A more likely scenario would be to keep Marner and offer Tavares a chance to go somewhere to win a Stanley Cup. Matthews is happy, and the fans are happy when the Leafs give him the "C," something Leaf Nation has wanted for some time. Marner may not get the 10.9m contract he covets, but he'll get a small raise to stay with Matthews, likely with some nice bonuses as incentive.

Why on earth would a team sign 4 players making half the cap each with no movement clauses? That's a recipe for disaster if 1 or 2 don't live up up the money. That's insanity

I live in Toronto, and it's the fans that are the problem. Toronto fans will abandon any other team when they start to do poorly, Jays, Raptors, Argos, TFC. However they are so hardcore they will NEVER abandon the leafs for some reason. IT gives the players no reason to be cup hungry when they know their fan base will always sell out their HUGELY overpriced tickets. Fans need to stop showing up and supporting this year after year after year. They need to know their money is on the line, but that NEVER happens with leaf fans. They'll always ALWAYS give in for some reason. WE are the problem.

Marner is waiving that no-movement clause no doubt about it. He doesn't want to stay in TO in that spotlight & it's clear after not addressing the media after the game 7 loss. Also it's time for both sides to move on & judging from Steve Dangles podcast there are signs from even last year that Marner was ready to move on. Former GM Dubas was ready to make the deal to move Marner but was overruled by Shannahan.

I remember watching Theoren Fleury as a kid... smallest player in the league but man did he have heart to match all his skill. Marner is an undeniable talent, puts up some great numbers during the regular season but he's a no show come playoff time and his attitude sucks. I think Nylander is an underrated playmaker, and he's got a great shot. If the Leafs can get away from Marner, Nylander showed this season that he can put up the numbers if given the chance to and he's been our best playoff performer. More than that we need a coach that can motivate his players and not shelter them from criticism or hold them accountable for their play, instead of babysitting them.

It's crazy how Leafs fans blame Marner and say he's the one that can't stand up to playoff hockey when Matthews is there on the same team. How does he get a pass? Heart? Did you not watch Matthews bow out of a game they were trailing and didn't even dress for 2 elimination games? The doctors didn't pull him from the game, he pulled himself and got backed up by the doctors. If he chooses to play, the doctors would be unlikely to stop him.

They need to draft top 1 and 2 defencemen, I have no problem keeping Marner. It'd be like Colrado getting rid of Rantaanen in 2020 or Tampa getting rid of Kucherov in 2019. They are good reasons to keep Marner.

I'd tell Marner if he doesn't give a list of teams he'd accept to be traded to, they won't play him much in his contract year. He held Leaf fans by the cojones with his first big contract no home discount why should the Leafs be easy on him again?or find an injury and place him on the LTIR if he doesn't play he won't get the contract he wants. Injuries and illness plagued the Leafs short playoff run. Marner is a good hockey player. Nylander showed great offense. But the defense and playoff tenacity was seriously lacking. A coach has to have the guts to bench star players (in the regular season) that are not demonstrating the will and fight to win. The Leafs need that drive. Knies had it. Tavares even had it. Injuries may have played a factor but it didn’t look great for Nylander (defense) and everyone else.

I don’t think it matters who plays for the Leafs. They haven’t won since 1967.. they’ve had 57 years to get it right. I’ve seen Doug Gilmore, Mat Sundin, and plenty of other players try to win it with the Leafs. I doubt losing a star player will make your team better.

Marner is both weak between the ears (not picking up his man) and weak physically. Boo him, run him out of town and he'll waive his clause. He's a floater, perimeter guy who wants to sit back and get easy points. He has skill but doesn't carry the team, doesn't drive play by himself and frankly if you don't see it then you haven't watched enough of him.

I would far rather see Morgan Reilly go than Mitch Marner; however, Reilly has a no trade clause through 2028 so that is a pipe dream as well. I'd also rather see Brodie go but wait, another no trade clause. It seems like the Leafs Brass were a little desparate at times as it now restricts what they can do. Marner moves the offense better than most so, maybe pick up some defencemen as they did this season and leave Marner where he is. You seem to be blaming him for one missed assignment when he has done so much to make this Leafs team great. Shame on you!!

If it does not wave his trade clause, you bench him randomly for many multiples of games, you make sure the coach rides his ass on the bench publicly and embarrasses the crap out of him, and you do anything you can to drive down his value. He wants to make us pay will make him pay.

Oh my goodness. I can remember as a 10yo, (or thereabouts early 70s,) the Leafs and my Blues having some battles. So whenever the Blues are "out" I always pull for The Leafs to have postseason success, but it just does not happen. With the weight of the Nation, and of half of Canada's population, and the scrutiny of Canadian media, they just can't do it. I really and honestly feel for The Leaf's fans. I know it hurts.

12 goals in 7 games from the leafs. The whole team shit the bed and everyone keeps droning on about Marner. Nobody did anything good on that entire team, Nobody! I said it before and I'll say it again. The fans have a bipolar psychosis when it comes to this team. The Fans and Media put so much pressure on this team the players have nightmares about losing. Things people fear the most usually happen because subconciously, they are doing things to make them happen or their fear paralyzes them from preventing it from happening.

It's true that a lot of playoff points mean nothing except another point. When you get three assists in a 6-2 game it's not nearly as important as 1 goal in a 2-1 game.

The Leafs are in the same situation that the Raptors were in before they were able to win a championship. Tough decisions have to be made by the organization.

I’m more surprised Sheldon Keefe wasn’t fired after choking to Toronto’s francophone brothers back in 2021. They were literally HANDED an entire division AND THEY STILL LOST. To a team that wouldn’t have made the playoffs at all in the current format.

Not to mention Nylander just stood there like a pylon.

If Keefe was gone, he wouldn't have been the one addressing the media. Will Marner waive his NTC? Doubt it! I will be surprised if they change anything. It was a hell of a series and to take it to game 7 and OT! Leafs fought hard! Game 7 was some GREAT HOCKEY!!

Business wise, those three playoff games brought a lot of money to the Leafs coffers, that is really all that matters to the mansgement. There will not be any earth shattering changes for next year, TSN will still see them in the finals next September but come May they will be playing golf. All is well in Toronto.

It's pretty easy to make life very difficult for someone with a NMC, and get them to waive it. Just look at how Burke dealt with Kaberle.

Marner has 55 points in 60 playoff games. He kills every penalty and is defensively responsible 99% of the time. He then gets blamed for an OT goal that had nothing to do with him, because Reilly was dogging it on defense. The reality is, they have a terrible coach and will never win with Keefe behind the bench.

The question will be how much the Leafs have to eat of that contract. Eleven mill for a guy who does maybe around 6 mil work, if that. We'll see. Condolences Leaf fans

In the "core 4 era" Marner leads the team in playoff points, and leads the forwards in playoff +/-. Clearly he is the problem....

Even my kids say that all Marner is good for is giving away the puck. If Marner and 'I choke in the finals' Matthews are gone next year I'll look forward to that room in the salary cap.

When You overpay a player, and they know the team won't make it past the 1 round, 2nd at best, than they'll play, but not at their best and they can half-ass it if be the case, knowing they'll have to be paid out one way or another.

Edmonton and Benoit just proved they are the new number one and two on the defense, Woll is the next number one in goal. I am and will continue to be a Leaf fan. I’ve been one my entire life and remember our last cup parade. Boston has been the same team since 1964. Sure the players are different but the mindset is still the same. Work every shift like it’s your last and play every game like it’s your first, in other words let your last shift be the best one you ever played and be as enthusiastic in every game as you were in your first game. Boston has always had a very “workman like “ attitude over the years. They have always had one or two “star” players and a supporting crew of grinders. Works well. We could learn from it.

The pressure in Toronto is too much for players. Players avoid playing in Toronto for this reason. It's been this way since the dawn of social media but everyone will just avoid that argument. The franchise makes way, way too much money for such abysmal failures.

If the all time points leader can be traded, mitchy can be traded. All you need to ask is this, is he worth what you are paying him? Any player that has to ask for an A on his jersey is playing for the name on the back of his jersey instead of the front.

Players that are unwanted by their team will usually waive, otherwise they’ll get scratched until they waive. Marner and Tavares need to go, that opens so much cap space and opportunity to change the outlook of this team.

DEANER- there were 3 ways that Boston winning goal could be prevented. First MARNER - did Marner know that the puck was going to be caromed off the boards to Pastrnak? NO! DID YOU ? Since Neither you or MARNER are mind readers, neither of you could see the play developing or know what the play would be that actually developped! Second- RIELLY- he was skating backward as the play was developping and in the BEST position to evaluate the play. He could see Marner, Pastrnak, the puck carrier and he was located on the left defence side, relatively close to Pastrnsk and Marner. As the carom shot to the boards was taken, he turned to his RIGHT, losing sight of Marner, Pastrnak, the point of contact of the shot when it hit the boards and it's subsequent trajectory, while at the same time displacing himself to the RIGHT, about two steps further from Pastrnak. He couldn't get to Pastrnak in time, but if he had turned TOWARD Pastrnak, he could have seen the puck, its' trajectory and he close enough to break up the play. IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, RIELLY WAS IN THE BEST POSITION TO PREVENT THIS GOAL AND SHOULD HAVE !!!!! Third- SAMSONOV- As Pastrnak swerved around him, it appeared that the puck was about two feet in front of Samsonov and could have been knocked off Pastas stick with a Poke Check! Conclusion:: MARNER was NOT in the BEST position to prevent this goal, RIELLY WAS, with SAMSONOV second , but I guess it was SHIT ON MARNER DAY ! P.S. Marner ISN'T built for Playoff Hockey! He's too light. He needs to spend a LOT of time in the gym, hitting the weights with the goal being 15-20# of upper body strength weight gain, with lots of running or specific low load intensity, high rep exercises to MAINTAIN his foot speed. THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS HAVE SHOWN A DECREASE IN HIS PERSONAL PRODUCTION LATE IN THE SEASON AND INTO THE PLAYOFFS! I think his body has been beaten up throughout the season because he is so slight, and just poops out on him late IN the season. He needs to do something about that to be productive throughout the season and into the playoffs !

have to figure out how to make the players that are lagging become fucking BEASTS, starting with the last four weeks of the season; hitting the weight room, running, everything you know the drill, whatever it takes to becomes tanks rolling into the post season, and I believe that it has to start with the players in the locker room, the guys that are on the ice every night, the guys that you have to look into their eyes and know that you let them down . . . as Honda says in S.W.A.T., sometimes you might have to get a little dirty behind the bus . . .

On that OT goal, is that Marner's man to pick up? The winger's defensive responsibility is to cover the other team's Dman... that was a bad read by Toronto's defense.
