For Mako.
"In the darkest times, hope is something you give yourself." - Uncle Iroh
July 21st, 2006, the original voice actor for Uncle Iroh in Avatar: The Last Airbender died. This character was always a beacon of incredible wisdom for the show and when the episode that the song was in aired, I realized that this was far more than a kid's cartoon.
For the tenth anniversary of Mako Iwamatsu's passing, I wanted to FINALLY do a cover of such an incredible song with two added verses. One I wrote myself, the other written by the collaboration of Tyler Gonelli, Claire Bryant, and Alexander Thiedmann. A link to their version will be below.
I hope you are ready for some intense feels. The song is pretty heavy. Enjoy!
Lyrics:
Leaves from the vine.
Falling so slow.
Like fragile, tiny shells
Drifting in the foam.
Little soldier boy
Come marching home.
Brave soldier boy
Come marching home
These leaves did fall
From branches overgrown
Drifting slowly down,
Resting all alone.
Little soldier boy
Taken from a home.
Forced to fight a war
That is not his own.
Leaves from the vine.
Falling so slow.
Like fragile, tiny shells
Drifting in the foam.
Little soldier boy
Come marching home.
Brave soldier boy
Come marching home
Leaves fell that night
When everything was silent.
No one dared to make a noise
They just stood there quiet.
The little solider boy
Found his way back home.
His mother wrapped her arms
Around his corpse.
Leaves from the vine.
Falling so slow.
Like fragile, tiny shells
Drifting in the foam.
Little soldier boy
Come marching home.
Brave soldier boy
Come marching, come marching. come marching, come marching
Leaves from the vine.
Falling so slow.
Like fragile, tiny shells
Drifting in the foam.
Little soldier boy
Come marching home.
Brave soldier boy
Come marching, come marching, come marching, come marching
Home.
