We asked writer and Clothing Coven founder Tallulah Willis to be a part of the What's Underneath Project because she bears witness to our belief that style
Isn't about wanting to be someone else,
Is comfort in your skin,
Is your spirit,
Is What's Underneath.

She has such a great energy and cool vibe. It's crazy to think how much media can destroy us. Tallulah is so exotically beautiful and she reminds me of Fiona Apple. If only stylelikeu was a daily tabloid instead of the damaging ones we're spoon fed. Boycotting these publications and not giving them our money is one of the most powerful things we can do to make a change.

The people who comment negatively about women "stripping" in these videos, clearly do not understand vulnerability, realness, or self love, or even want to promote it. The concept of all this clearly goes over your head, by associating a woman taking off her clothes with "stripping" shows how society brainwashed you into thinking everything a woman does is sexual. If you read the beginning of every video they define what style really means and its not by what you wear, yes that is defined by their opinion but these are their videos and they explain their purpose and if you do not understand that then idk what to tell you bruh...
@lilylebowsky5908

Coco Why do you need to be (semi-) naked to make such point? When you go to councellor/psyscologist to dicuss you most intimate issues and thoughts, do you stip off?! There is no need. Women in today's world cannot make a point without being naked or sexually provocative (think famous singers- all wear practically nothing). But you have your opinion and I have mine :)
@screamingants
@screamingants 8 лет назад
+Lily Lebowsky I think that the fact that they take off their clothes shows other women that, although they have flaws (much like everyone) they can accept themselves an be within their bodies. It is just a more graphic way to make a point as most women we are used to see on media are photoshoped and are this image of perfection.
@thetasurfers
@thetasurfers 8 лет назад
+Lily Lebowsky how is being not entirely dressed provocative? i'm sorry, but this is such an american attitude. yet another sign of the sexualisation of the (female) body, which you rightfully mentioned to happen in mainstream media. you look at commercials and they are extremely sexualised (and sexist). the woman invoved can be almost entirely naked as long the nipple and the line that separates the labia is not seen. you see the nipple - BOOM - scandal. breastfeeding publicly is seen as atrocious, yes, almost abominable. (and at the same time pet dogs are treated as princess children, ripped of their soul and their animal spirit, becoming a moving cuddle toy that's being carried around in a bag or a stroller...) youporn is the most visited website in the u.s.. you all act as if the human body is born with clothes on, as if motherhood was a mistake, a mutation - indeed there is little place for it in this patriarchal, sexualised society. either way, i believe that taking off their clothes in SyleLikeU serves more as a metaphor for stripping of their defense layers as a means of confidence with their actual self - which, as some of the speakers have voiced, is not synonymic to their body, their shell. it's about accepting yourself instead of hiding behind a thick curtain of masks and dress-ups.

I think Tallulah and her sisters are all beautiful, they just are unconventionally beautiful. Which, I get tired of the stereotypical, "generic" beauty in hollywood. I love fresh, interesting and captivating beauty. I've struggled with feeling the way she did when she was younger, about my face. It wasn't until I was about 15 that I began to get super self-conscious about myself. But I can really relate to her the way she describes how she felt. I'm glad she hasn't changed herself and has grown to accept the way she is! That is inspirational to me.
@nunyabiznez6381
@nunyabiznez6381 8 лет назад
Rachel Read I don't know what you mean by unconventional. She is beautiful period. I'm a guy and an artist and she is as beautiful as any model I have painted. More beautiful than most. The idea that a girl has to look a certain way to be beautiful, conventional or otherwise is nonsensical to me. The idea that women need to look like walking manikins is t me ludicrous. Ever try to have sex with a manikin?
@RachelOnAWhim

nunya biznez I meant that in a good way! Unconventional means rare. She has a rare form of a beauty.
@nunyabiznez6381

bobo bb Ummm?? :P Well, I'm brave enough to use an actual picture of myself on here, but what has that got to do with anything? Simply because I see beauty in another person and you don't? Beauty is very subjective.

I hope you know how beautiful you are inside and out. I remember the day you were born, and am so impressed with what an amazingly thoughtful and well spoken woman you have become. I hope you can continue to rise above it and realize you are so much better than that!

It's pretty disappointing that people are trying to de-legitimize these women b/c you somehow feel that their insecurities and issues "aren't real" or somehow, b/c they come from a place of privilege (in comparison to yourself) that this dictates that their hardships don't matter or even worse, that they shouldn't be allowed to feel the way that they do. There's always going to be someone in a worse off or less privileged position than yourself, that's life...but that doesn't make your "mundane" hardships and insecurities any less real or any less difficult. Thank you for sharing your story Tallulah!

I do understand that each of us only can know our own problems, but it is hard for me to watch people that have so much talk about all their "problems". Not to under estimate her issues and mental health is very difficult, but I think that maybe if these privileged, beautiful, smart, wealthy people thought more about others with REAL problems like hunger, homelessness, poverty then maybe their own stuff would not seem so bad and they may find they feel amazing after helping people??!! Sorry, this was not directed specifically at Ms. Willis, just a personal rant.
@user-pn2ox9gx7g
@user-pn2ox9gx7g 10 лет назад
Bettina Stepek it's true , listening to so many people talking about their problems might get a little weird and it's completely OK if you don't like it , but please don't say that hunger and homelessness are "real problems". They are, but mental issues are REAL problems as well. Please don't compare those situations and don't make someone feel bad about having mental problems or body image problems because somewhere else in the world "there are people that are starving". Every person is a different world and what might look stupid to you, might mean the world to someone else. Your opinion is valid too, but so is these people's opinion. (sorry, english is not my first language)
@Bettinasisrg
@Bettinasisrg 10 лет назад
Hello, first I wanted to say I NEVER said she was stupid or anyone else and NEVER said mental health was not a real problem. And have you ever been hungry, I mean starving, without food for days, or homeless? Please do not say those are not real problems! And I'm sorry but today everything is explained by mental issues, and it is a bad thing for 2 very important reasons. 1) All the people who want to claim their "problems" are mental issues (and they are NOT) take away from people who really do have them, and 2) there are a lot of doctors who are over prescribing and unnecessarily prescribing DANGEROUS medications for people who don't need them. Also if you read the first line and last I wrote I said that no one can know how anyone else is coping, or 'dealing' with their problems and if you have never been hungry or homeless or raped or whatever you cannot know how that feels, BUT there also is such a thing as whining, over indulgent, narcissistic people (NOT saying this Ms. Willis is) who will always say "woe is me" for many reasons. Not sure why to took offense to my post, as I never said my opinion was better or worse than anyone elses and I take full responsibility for what I said. P.S. I have watched others on this series and did not get the feeling I got watching Ms. Willis, something about it made me a little irked, again NOT her personally, I don't know her, maybe it was the idea of what she was conveying? And I did say it was a rant which means a personal meaningless opinion that needed to be spat out.

@Pinkdustland

Being naked both mentally and physically is being vulnerable; it takes courage to show who you are in your very essence. I love the metaphor too. I support fully what this series are trying to do. I saw some negative comments and guess what, there will ALWAYS be rejectors for every new idea/project. You can't fully satisfy anyone. And whats beautiful about that is the rarity. Some of my favorite artists aren't loved by my friends, and thats perfect. People are NOT equal to each other (we are all different). Some of us, like in sub-cultures understand more or look at the world similar. So what matters is (because we cant satisfy and change anyone) to connect to each other, which is a few of us, and feel one bit less alone in this universe.
