A way to fix this archetype is just to give them a continuous or field spell which changes their effects to affect any Extra Deck monsters instead of Synchros, and new support which does that.
That's what Super Robolady and yarou need. An orcust Babylon field spell. So they can quick effect bounce themselves back and forth to dodge destruction. That would help them a lot but they also could really use a good fusion spell that has a banish effect in grave for some kind of battle protection or something. Cuz they're weak in battle and their effects don't do what they should.
@@danielramsey6141 not exactly their new boss monster can look at your opponent's extra Deck and take a monster from it to equip to it sure gets benefits from equipping a Synchro Monster but at least allows you to equip any extra Deck monster they need something like malefic territory
True Gravemind I actually bought the DS game for 2011 just so I could play this deck and then I saw this video. At the very least we can stare at the pretty pictures on the cards.
I think the concept of modular monsters would be very cool. Just like one of the original yu gi oh duelists having a set that would create a physical piece of armor on him to duel with. Maybe forbid them from being used as XYZ or Synchro material to balance them. The only issue I would see with a deck like that would be the dead draws, where you odn't have the right components .
Honestly, I think they were just tentative about releasing 18+ cards (at the very least, three Cores, three Emperors, three Guards, three Tops, three Carriers, and three Attacks, plus their support cards and any upgrade parts), as well as worries that the deck might be too swingy (you either go +4 or brick). It's also possible that they wanted to focus more on the Army aspect, or were worried the deck would make the upcoming Xyz or Quasar builds too effective.
You know what would make Meklords interesting. You know how each series of Yu-Gi-Oh focuses on a certain type of monster. The original Yu-Gi-Oh didn't really have any, but GX had Fusions, 5Ds had Synchros, Zexel had Xyz's, Arc-V had Pendulums, and Vrains have Links. I'm saying wouldn't it be cool if with each new incarnation of Yu-Gi-Oh we have a new series of Meklords that counter that series monster type other than Synchros. Like for example if a Meklord is on the field and you opponent fusion summons a monster, target the monster and return it to the Extra Deck and special summon it's fusion materials and equip them to this card. This card gains the ATK of monsters equip to it. Something like that. Not only would that make Meklords a sorta tool box to deal with all sorts of situations, but also give them the versatility they desperately need. I'm not saying this will make Meklords viable in competitive or anything. It will just make them versatile, experimental, and much more interesting.

I've been watching 5Ds for the first time lately and just got to the Meklord arc. The guy summoned Meklord Emperor Wisel and the anime had a shot where the camera pans up the monster while the sun shines off its armor, as if the Meklord was the good guy here to save the day from the scary Synchros. It actually looked pretty cool. Then I remembered this video.
Meklords were introduced in the anime, but nerfed in the TCG to the point that their effects no longer represented what they were in the anime. Eg Chaos Infinity has the same effect in the anime but Asterisk in the anime had the effect where it gained atk for each attack position Meklord the user controlled *without sending them to the GY*, so Chaos Infinity's effect was a convenient plot point to make the undubbed Jack/Luna/Leo Vs Aporia duel a tiny bit more interesting
Honestly in hindsight we should have seen it coming. Most if not all of legacy of the worthless archetypes were synchro focused. Genex out synchro-ed the rest and meklords were designed to be anti synchro. The whole war of the worthless was like watching ally of justice versus arcana force but with alot of commercial breaks and a 5 month hiatus.
Oh jeez, I just faced a kid at the card shop yesterday using this deck. I even used synchros, and I still wiped the floor with him. I was using Nordic Beasts!
honestly, rather than make the meklords a single monster, i'd prefer that konami had kept them the same concept in the anime and make each meklord monster composed of 5 individual monsters with their own effect that helps with swarming. and change each support card to support the meklord parts
I can only assume they didn't do this so it wouldn't be too painful to build a deck based on all the various parts. Would be neat to be able to substitute and upgrade certain parts like they did in the animé though.
I get the feeling a lot of GX era archetypes are going to pop up in this series... Pure old-school E-HEROes and old school 'Roids being the tip of the iceberg. (Even though I kind of like old-school E-HEROes, despite how bad they were even back during their era.)
It's most likely gonna be chock-full of GX-era and early Duel Terminal archetypes, cause that was the period in which Yugioh was still figuring out how to handle the concept of archetypes in the first place. By suggestion of quite a few people so far, the next one might just be Arcana Force.
It's such a shame because the designs for all of these meklords are so cool and I loved them all so much in the anime. If only they'd be reworked to just work against the Extra Deck in general and be more like Dracolords.
If anything I use it for attack interception. It’s a 50/50 shot wether an opponent can get over 4000 atk mid battle. And then the one I summon is promptly used as grave filler for Triskellia.
@@kichiroumitsurugi4363 Literally no Unlike Mekks they were used as their own standalone R4 turbo deck. They just happened to also counter Xyzs. Mekks LITERALLY had no play outside of vs Synchro decks cuz half their effects only did anything vs synchros and they're a main deck oriented archetype which makes them already far worse than Heraldic. Idk how you could think they're in the same boat. The only thing that is remotely in common now is that they both need more support to do anything but even then all Heraldic needs is some good main deck monsters and a new boss that isn't centralized on Xyzs. Meanwhile the entire Mekklord archetype should be thrown away
@@BlackBeartic229 That shows you're living in the wrong era. Okay, lemme run you briefly through why Heraldic sucked: When ABYR released, we had 2 Heraldics. One of them is currently a 3of for the archetype, and the other is absolute dogwater. They also get their Xyz there, but already on release it sucked because it was not Quick Effect. Then, Cosmo Blazer gave us Leo and Eale (and Basilisk, ugh), which added some consistency, as well as more targets for Advanced Heraldry Art. Leo is a 3of by need, not by choice, and kinda shows the problem with Heraldics - overreliance on the graveyard. Then, in LTGY, they got Number 69 - too high investment for what was basically a very bad Skill Drain. And then, they finally got good support in Amphisbaena and Number 18...buuuuut that got locked in the OCG for far too long. And only now, with the existence of Time Thief and Charged-Up Heraldry does the archetype even work Merklords had a better semblance kf playability on release, however slow they may have been, and Wisel can be seen as good. Not to mention, the fact they were Machines would pave the way for them to get easily supported by generic Machine support very easily, and when the newer Machinas came, they basically add consistency to Meklords very easily, and the addition of what is basically a 1.5 card Wisel if you open 1 of 2 3of in an engine also adds to that, on top of also being a surprisingly decent engine for Yang Zing of all things. Only bad thing about Meklords rn is the same problem as Yang Zing 'requires outside support to not brick, easily misses the timing'

I have a True Draco Meklord deck that does well enough - it usually destroys a monster that floats somehow when its destroyed, either by Diagram or by a True King, and then I can summon a Meklord, usually either Wisel for that spell negation or Granel for a beefy attack value. As an added plus, Master Peace with a tributed monster can attack alongside a Meklord due to being immune from the attack restriction, and Metaltron does the same thing. Master Peace also adds apt versatility via its popping effect, and Metaltron summons one of a variety of hilarious extra deck monsters. The Meklords can also be activated by using Breaksword's effect on something, usually itself or a floater, and he's usually summoned by a pair of Baobaboons.
All Meklords really need is for Konami to make a card that treats all opponent's monsters summoned from the Extra Deck to be treated as a specific type in addition to their own card type (Fusion/Synchro/Xyz) Maybe Pendulums too? Then all you do is call Synchro and the Meklords would be able to defeat most monsters instead of only Synchros. Boom! Problem solved.

@@goomyiscute777 They have the right idea, but they need more than that. Like Skiel hunting Xyz, Wisel punishing Synchros(and now Rituals and Pendulums maybe) and Granel hunting Fusion. While more Astros punish all of the summoning methods.
I mean, you could try out the Resonator or Synchron engine to get out said synchros, activate shiens spy, special summon unknown synchron or synkron resonator, destroy that monster by any means, then proceed to summon any meklord emperor besides skiel. But yeah, it’s way too much effort.

I really like this series! The coverage of these really obscure cards is cool because to be honest, despite playing the game for so long, I could hardly name what these guys even do. Also, was it just me, or did you guys start to feel really sad halfway through the video?

Michael James though genex really is the better deck. Meklords only got so far because they had the advantage vs synchros, which every deck in the tourny used.
@@lordradiance2530 to boot the fact that I don't think the Genex player ran any XYZs even though he had consistent methods to tech some XYZ in for such occasions.
Another important thing to note is that while Meklords we're introduced midway throught the 5ds anime, the cards themselves were printed in the final 5ds set, with the rest being released as early Zexal promos. Konami stopped printing synchros for the first half of Zexal so the mechanic was literally in its death throws.
1337 or "LEET" is a language using numbers as letters. the most useful ways to translate it is to look at the numbers and think of what letters they could make if you rotated or flipped them. i.e. "855" means "ASS"
Meklord Fortress should, to be a good field spell the archetype needs, have something along the lines of "Meklord-monsters you control are not affected by your opponent´s monster-card effects. The effects of Synchro-monsters your opponent controls are negated. If this card is destroyed and sent to the graveyard, destroy all monsters on the field." Especially the last floating effect would really help to wipe the board and potentially end with Meklords summoned thorugh their effect. Astro Mekanikle should, for being the only consistent 4k beater they have, at least be untargetable by opponent´s card effects. I think with more archetypical monsters at their disposal they could really be a force to be reckoned with, and absolutely deadly against Synchro-heavy decks.

I know this video is pretty old, but I'm still sad nobody mentioned that Granel doesn't have the attacking restriction the other two emperors do. It easily makes it the best card in the archetype.
Making meklords "playable" is as easy as giving them the nordic treatment. Give them a swarmer which can special summon from the hand and/or deck and a link 1 which can special summon 1 level 1 meklord emporer from the deck or hand ignoring its summoning condition which as long as it is being pointed to its effect cant be negated.
Better idea: make a new field spell that treats all monsters your opponent controls as synchro monsters, makes Meklords effects quick effects, and let you special one of the original three from deck ignoring summoning conditions one while the field spell is face up on the field. They all become Alkahest and can fight other decks. Play eight, as in three copies, two terraforming, and three metaverse. Heck, you might as well play two planet pathfinder because that card is.effectively your win con.
Hey the new 2020 support actually helps to fix the search power, better effect destruction, and sort of better armies honestly making them with moderately good ranks in most of these it is just under appreciated

I re-watched this, and I figured out how to actually use them. I made a Meklord/Earthbound deck. It works pretty well and I whip out my Meklords and tribute them for my Earthbounds. That or I'll get out Mekanikle. It works!

Meklord Lockdown/Burner will work. Pretty much try to destroy your monsters by card effects and summon 1 meklord and use cards like Level limit Area B, gravity bind to restrict their monsters. Use cards like solar flare dragon and stealth bird to burn away your opponent's lifepoints.
I actually know why Chaos Infinity changes battle positions. Before being nerfed to hell, Astro Dragon, in the anime, gained attack of all attack-mode Meklords, so when one was switched to defense, this gave it an attack boost, as well as summoning a Meklord from the deck and grave.
How they could've make Meklords slightly better, more versatile, and somewhat future-proof: Just replace Synchros with ANY Extra Deck monster. It still would've worked for the 5D's anime too, since they only use Synchros anyways.
I actually ran these. You'd run them along with some Scraps. Mainly Kong (which enabled turn 1 Granel(s) )and Goblin. Goblin + an Army would let you grab AFD, which would let you put more armies down and pop the Field Spell to add another copy as well as an Emperor. Back in ye olde times and pre Xyz the deck was a fair bit successful in locals especially with Dragunity being the main contender at the time. Up til Generation Force it was my main deck I played through Spring and Summer. Back then we also had power cards like Reborn and Avarice to keep doing this shit all over again, as well as 2 Bottomless (which Granel dodged and every deck was running 2 of) and Solemn Judgment, 2 Warnings, Giant Trunade, and 3 Compulse for protection. Granel was also teched into the usual Scrap decks as well, because synergy. This stuff was /impressive/ back in the day. Nowadays it wouldn't hold a candle to anything, unfortunately.
It always surprises me how much utility Scraps happen to have, I swear I used to see people splash them into EVERYTHING. That stuff with Kong is actually a pretty legit combo. As we all know, Scrap Kong is a great side card, cause it blows itself up.
Re: Chaos Infinity. the reason for the battle change is two. first, its a boss monster decks and bosses that summon one big boss always has one simple counter: defense mode. secondly, its an anime card and in the anime, astro dragon only gained the meklord cards in attack position so this was his final trump. the heroes thought they had it and he flips this, putting a bunch of defense mode meklords into attack (Adding to the astro dragon) then finally summoning mekanicle adding his 4k to astro dragon.
In the anime Astro Dragon only gained attack from the Meklords on the field in attack position, so after Lua and Luka changed most of them to defense position, Aporia used it to summon Astro Mekanikle from the deck, and change the armies to attack mode, giving Astro Dragon some massive attack
It's a shame because while they're really cool and can be strong against Synchros, they feel pretty restricted not being able to be flexible to take on other Extra Deck monsters. The Meklords need something a bit more to help them out so they'd be more reliable for other situations. Maybe retrained cards or some sort of buff?
I personally like Granel's ability to give you a decent Junk Warrior OTK AND it being the only Emperor to not restrict your other monsters from attacking. And then it and Wisel are interesting things to splash into Geargias and Cyber Dragons to screw with your opponents casually also, there are a few out of archetype cards that help Meklords with consistency, like Playful Possum and Gold Sarcophagus
Goro Akechi Now with extra syrup i would prefer not to see more 5ds love in arc v. Not to say i dont like 5DS but man they really gave 5DS so much fan service. Sergey used earthbound immortal servants, there were riding duels, red dragon archfiend tyrants summoning chant was the same as red dragon archfiend novas. Jack and crow were thrown in everyones face.

Yes I know, (I've played Naturia for years lol) but any good deck uses 7-8 cards and the rest of the archtype does jacksh*t. And Nordics make a good Thor spawning deck based aroung the goats, but they have a video for them. And Nebula Worms topped once back in 2011.
Diego Hernando Cubillos Exactly, even if the archetype suffers a little from Ice Barrier syndrome, where their bosses see way more play than the rest of them.
They should either have a new boss monster or a new field spell that sends one of your synchro monsters from the extra deck to your opponent side of the field as cost but also allowing you to steal it using the monster effect more viably because you don’t have assume what kind of extra cards your opponent has
One thing I will never understand is why they nerfed Fortissimo compared to the anime. How exactly is 100 LP damage during a player's own End Phase only when they don't control a Machine-Type monster overpowered?
I think it also had a more generic effect of being able to summon any level 4 or lower machine monster from your hand, but I think it also applied to the opponent too. Oh no, so broken!
Meklord army of Wisel is actually good with the emperors out, as the emperord restrict your attacks, meaning you only really need to use it once per turn
You know what would be cool to see? Equip cards and or monster effects that allow you to treat certain monsters as a specific type of card (Ritual, normal, effect, Fusion, synchro, xyz)
You can use limiter removal as a summoning mechanism which is fun. When they get 8000 atk just use destruct potion gain your life points and summon another meklord. It takes a bit for them to get rid of your boss so swarming will prepare you for a fusion. Also going first with torrential is hella good. Reboot is actually nice too for getting of a dark hole, special summon. Just field wipe constantly adding more meklords to your hand while negating your opponents searches. I’ve never used the syncro effect except against six samurai. It’s strong enough without the atk boost. It will never be the best deck but it’s actually fun. Running them with supply squad and you will be golden.
