Definitely, Stevie's music in the 60's & 70's is still legendary today!. I'm not sure, but I'd say the show would have taken place in the mid to late 1966 after Stevie released the song and became an instant hit.
Thanks ! Found another posting with a note that dates the show (Mike Douglas) to some time in 1965. Sounds reasonable to me; could have been Nov or Dec 65? Don't know exactly when the tune was released but it appears that S.W. is introducing it on this show. However, I always assumed that he wrote it but found out last year that he didn't. Do you know if he was the first artist to record it? Obviously, he had the biggest hit with it, maybe the only hit, but I know that other singers recorded it. Would like to know who did it first and when was it written?
Oh wow, I've learnt something new - thanks for informing me!. It's incredible how an artist can claim fame from songs that was never actually written by them. Apparently it was written by Ronald Miller and Bryan Wells who were writers for Berry Gordy's Motown, and found its way to Stevie. Ronald Miller had a string of Top 10 hits through Motown including 'For Once In My Life' and 'Yester-me, Yester-you, Yesterday'...amazing piece of history!
