Regarding the emergency disconnect for firemen, maybe place a sticker outside next to the drivers door indicating it is behind the seat, sort like fighter jets have an sticker that reads "rescue" with an arrow. Extra points if it is very similar ;)

34:30 Battery prices have gone up since I sourced them, but the LFP batteries for my Ford Ranger EV restoration would cost $14,000 today, which is three times the cost of the truck itself and all other components and tools required for the restoration.

@@Phatman114 more than a couple companies make bolt in kits for Porsche 911s of various vintages as well. It's definetely coming someday soonish. I could see a mash up with aems ev division Holley high voltage. Where you select your car, select the motor/s&hp goals, select your electronics with aem/next ev, select your battery setup, then have mounts and various stuff built by a place like send-cut-send. It would still be very pricey though for a good long time yet. 🤔

Really interesting. Right now, I'd guess, that this is not practical for the average guy but the possibility of this is what happens to combustible over time is fascinating. I hope you'll consider doing one of these builds on a smaller vehicle with a focus on keeping cost down and range and charging up. Thanks for doing this and great video

It would be neat to see but this video series was really expensive and hasn’t generated a lot of views. I think it may gain traction in time but I don’t expect to see another conversion on TFLEV anytime soon.
@newscoulomb3705

A budget build could be done a lot cheaper. A small car (probably something like a Geo Metro would be best) would only need a single NetGain motor and 36 LFP cells. Even if they splurged and got 200+ Ah cells, the cost would only be about as much as three Tesla 18650 modules.

Excellent, I lean towards a one motor (DC to save inverter watts) system as I have a 69 f250. Ford is developing crate w most other components in a kit. My truck is a 2wd w a dana 60 rear. I want to do this myself and install a solar hybrid stand alone/grid feed system. Simplicity is key.
@markeh1971
@markeh1971 Месяц назад
Hi, KISS is the true acronym. You could just harvest all the parts from an old or newer crashed leaf. Which you can mount to a transmission or transfer box. Starting to see lots of conversions on Series and old Defenders. Which keep it simple. They have both depending upon the end use. You can also go the Tesla route and replace the transfer box with the Tesla drive unit with raised drive ratio. This offers more power than the leaf whilst keeping it simple since it is a motor / drive/ inverter in one. Cost wise using second hand or crashed components keeps the cost down but gives you excellent engineered parts. There are now several e us that can be used to get the hardware working. If you wanted a performance or more bespoke, you could convert to independent suspension and a drive unit at each end. This offers performance whilst allowing a skateboard approach and keeping the battery in the Ctr and safe from everything. The handling is also the best you can get with almost 50/50 distribution. There is a company in the UK offering this for older range rovers at a cost! The choice is your and so are the cost decisions. Take care M.

Nice final product, but it's hard to justify putting a $30k drivetrain in a $1500 vehicle. Price is going to hold back most conversions. You could leave the ICE in that and just buy a Chevy bolt to drive. You would have less in it.
@4literv6
@4literv6 Год назад
Or buy a cheap bolt strip it down and reuse the parts like Chevy themselves did a couple year's ago for the sema built ev c10.
@jamesengland7461
@jamesengland7461 Год назад
The same applies to any classic custom. You're not trying to build basic transportation; you're doing something special. However, in coming years, it will likely become economical to convert them. Also, this is a $32k EV real truck. It's cheaper than any brand new full size truck and cheaper to run.
@michaellowe3665
@michaellowe3665 Год назад
@jamesengland7461 with half the range. I expect that if Ford wanted to build a new ranger EV with only 250 hp and 100 miles of range, they could probably get close to that 30k price. It wouldn't sell well enough, though. They probably will build one with 300 hp and 250 miles of range. It will probably still be under 40k.

Motor cooling, controller cooling if separate box from inverter, inverter cooling, charger cooling anything else liquid cooled. What are the advantages of cooling 'each' of these systems if liquid cooled over non-cooled systems, describe components included into each system, what are the negatives of individual systems that are not liquid cooled such as the car begins to slow down on the highway. Tesla motors are liquid cooled hyper nine motors are not, because of that what can the Tesla motor do that the hyper nine can't? Thanks for the great work and hard work that you do!!!

Wow definitely wouldn't trust a company that considers matching the voltage of a huge battery pack by "hooking it up to a 12V on a van" to balance it... Scary. Battery modules need to be capacity matched, not just voltage matched, or one module will hit full/empty before the others and waste potential capacity. It will always be a problem.

I had a 2008 I had to get rid of, but my wife's grandfather had an older b2300 which has just died in the garage. Doing it yourself figure 10-12 thousand for a new motor, BMS, adapter plates, cooling system, mounting, battery boxes and batteries from a totaled car typically from a Tesla or Chevy Volt. New batteries are expensive. Paying someone else could be triple that. A Hyper 9 would be nice in an Opal GT. I would keep the transmission and clutch if it can handle the increased power and torque. As long as around 100 mile range works for you you could keep the car about the original weight. It would be a blast to drive. Plan on spending about $500 for insulated tools, meters and safety equipment.
