time to answer one of the most asked questions of all time! which one of these lumbering 4 door muscle sedans is the king of the road? is it the mercury marauder? or chevy impala ss?
Sorry to be so offtopic but does someone know a tool to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me.
@J. Dns 95-96 wagons came with the lt1 and ride level. Just didn't have the ss badges. But every time I buy a part it's labeled Impala SS/caprice wagon/ Corvette
I lost my SS in a car accident a couple of months ago and I'm telling you I miss it. I'm driving a Marauder now and gotta say it outpulls the SS on the top end. But the SS is faster off the line.
Bro this the exact same thing tht happened to me. Got a bad deal in my 96 Impala SS in a accident and it was how I got introduced to the world of Marauder. I copped me a 04 Marauder not too longer after and I still have.
I have 3 9c1 caprices and have yet to be passed by a mm or p71 crown vic.my highest top speed is 172 mph.my daughter is a deputy sheriff and drove a p71 and my caprices scare her.i'll take the Chevy any day
@@susanzalewski996 I heard alot about these cars for years and I know alot about them but I have never heard of any caprice running over 155mph. My SS topped out a little over 140.
Oh ya my vote is impala ss. Although like the video agrees , simply up to preference. Both great cars. My grandma drives an 95 impala ss and my uncle an 03 Maurader.
I got both (96 SS and 03 MM) love both for different reasons. The MM is more nimble and I love the whine coupled with the dual exhaust. The SS is more powerful and commanding of the streets. Next I want the Grand National.
@@KINGGEORGIA83 yep you take a Lincoln Mark 8 32 valve V8 and add the heads from a 2002 Lincoln Navigator's 300 hp 32 valve 5.4 V8 to create a higher compression version that the Mach 1 GT, Maruader, Lincoln Aviator was given.
Cool vid man and I'd have to say as a 96 Impala SS owner I'd have to say they both are pretty cool in their own individual way. Thanks for throwing in a clip of my SS bro keep it up...
I'm kind of a Ford guy. I drive an '06 P71. The Panther platform is quite a bit better than the bubble Chevy platform. But the LT1 is a beast, and the Chevys are much more tuner friendly. I'd buy a 1996 Impala SS over a Marauder, without thinking twice.
love the Impala, But The winner for me is the Marauder. You can Fake an SS all day long. And unless you know what your looking for you can easily get swindled into buying a dressed up 9C1. The Marauder on the other hand you can't Fake. It doesn't matter if you spend so much money converting a Vic or a Marquis into a 100% clone that you could have just bought a real one, The Vin doesn't lie. For 2003 8th position in the Vin is a "V" for the DOHC 4.6, The Body code for 2003 is shared with the Grand Marquis LS. For 2004, the Marauder got it's own body code M79, and still had the "V" designation in the Vin. The Vin on the Impala SS has the letter "P" in the 8th position for the LT1. But the Caprice also came with this engine. The car was never body coded and shares the code with a Caprice. The Trunk Tag with all the options is what you are looking for, code WX3 if I remember. Sadly this can be reproduced, I have seen a few fakes in the past. Most Fakes don't even have the decal. Another thing to look for is the tire info on the door. if the tag doesn't read 17s it's a Caprice. Both cars are awesome. The Impala saw more success because the level of performance it gave for the era it was in was great. The Marauder was over priced, and the big wigs at Mercury kept the developers from doing what they really wanted.
I agree because Ford being a family owned car company were being too fucking conservative. Just like the Lincoln Mark 8 the developers were gonna make both of them and the Maruader convertibles with the same Eaton M112 superchargers like the Terminator Cobra eventually gotten and the assholes in charge halted it all and killed these cars production on top of that.
Bought my 96 SS new. Changed the oil and filter every 3,000-4,000 miles. Change the transmission fluid and filter along with new differential fluid and filter every 60,000 miles. Upgraded from the de Carbon’s to Bilsteins and a new front air dam that directs air to the front brakes to help keep them cooler. Car has 185,000 and still purring like a kitten. My neighbor down the street has a 2003 Marauder beautiful car as well.
This is a trip. I remember asking myself the same question 20 years ago. I had a Crown Vic ( Police interceptor ) in 2009 I bought a 94 impala. Parts are easier or were easier to get & I certainly cannot complain. SS all day & the impala has never failed me. The black pearl lives on 💯🇺🇸🔝
I’m going to need more beer to answer this. (Okay, focus) The 1998 Impala Super sport had 260hp. With a Curb Weight of 4,036lbs.. The 1998 Mercury Marauder had 302hp. With a Curb Weight of 3,849lbs. I’ll go with: What is a Mercury Marauder for $500 Alex?
Please explain Why Why Why Ford and GM let Dodge take them?? No reason why SHO, Pontiac, Impala, Grand Marquis couldn't have remained rear wheel drive big bodies with good marketing.
I bought my 96 SS brand new. It now has 316,000 miles. The engine, trans and rear end are new. I don't commute any more so it is mostly a garage queen. We use it for hauling our grandkids around. (My other car is a 2003 C5 Corvette). The Impala is in great shape except the paint. I'll be getting it painted this summer. That being said, I am impressed with the Marauder's looks and interior.
92-02 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi, any L67 3800 3.8L Supercharged Sedan Buick Regal GS, Oldsmobile LSS, 98-05 Impala SS, Pontiac Grand Prix GTP and some GT options L67 Buick Park Ave Ultra L67 and more. with a few cheap mods they will scream. most of them are 14 sec quarter mile out of the box and cheap to repair and upgrade
Very good comparison. The 0-60 time being faster in the impala despite its 3.08 rear gear and less power vs the more power and 3.55 gears in the Merc probably came down to where the power is made. Impala has its torque down low while the merc has it up fairly high in the power band. Both are incredibly enjoyable vehicles to own and drive.
The issue with ALL of them naturally aspirated 32 valve DOHC 4.6 engines is that they don't really respond till 3000 rpms, which is why the 16 valve SOHC 4.6 engines were known to be more torquey and responsive in the early rpms. The OHV 5.7 LT1 Impala will not make you wait to unleash 345lb-ft of torque!
I’ve owned every year impala Ss of the 90’s 94,95,96. The fastest one stock felt like the 94. Still sexy to look at because they’re so sparse on the street. And when it rolls up it looks to sinister. I wish the interiors were nicer. Best ride was the mercury i owned recently. It did feel anemic compared to the SS. The ride was so much better. The interior didn’t make that plastic on plastic sound if you leaned on the panels inside.
great vid... can't go wrong with these cars nor with making videos about them. Speaking of beast sedans, I've got eyes on a Chrysler 300 SRT-8 seized and being auctioned by local PD. Probably going to bid as long as folks don't go crazy with their bids.
Nice. I own one, same year. Just wondering the miles on yours. Mine has 50,900. But I'm in California, I can no longer smog mine with the Kooks, Trilogy Supercharger, etc.. bummed.
@@TrailingSkies27 Hi there. My 03 Marauder has 180 kilometers So just over 100 k miles. I have owned it for just under 3 years and I only drive it in the summer. I would love to supercharge it. We are allowed here in Canada. I live on the east coast. No emission tests
ok,so can you make a video clearing up the mystery of the gold badging on panther sedans? they apparently do it on more than 1 trim, ive only seen it on the mercurys but i hear town cars have them too, wikipedia and google are no help to me and the only lead i have is it came from Miami,if you could make a video detailing trim levels and the source of the gold badging...thatd be pretty cool, tbh its an honest mystery
Ive owned both and have a 94 ss now imo i think the ss just has more top end as well torque its just a big girl but you put a set of 2 half dual pipes cold air and maybe headers and shes almost another car ran into my fair share 4.6s fun runs only lost to 1 had a custom cam and head work done close race we still hang out from time to time
An idea- what if the Marauder packed a rugged-built, SOHC 4.6 & transmission, but supercharged? Rugged-built, as in toughened up internally to often handle max boost and last 100s of thousands of miles just like the regular sohc 4.6. 320-350 horsepower and 400 lb. ft. of torque. Well, we can do this with 5-7k, ourselves, as in a Supercharger "kit". Toughening up the engine & transmission, however needed, maybe another $4-5k?
Il go whit a marauder simply because all the gm cars I've had all gave problems I've had fords lincolns and they DC not) stop currently I have the sleeper 95 lincoln continental 4.6 had 7 years car is a beast
Papi with all the prices going up you have a treasure I’m planning on get a crown Vic cos I know is gonna be a relic soon , but prices are just ridiculous
I chose an 03 Marauder over the 94-96 Impala a few years back. Since I have been trying to talk my neighbor out of his 96 Impala SS and he said he'd trade me straight up but I think I'll stick with my black on black panther Lol... #StaySafe & #StayBlessed
Good video man, I can't wait to see the 06 - 14 charger. I have a 06 charger r/t myself and I race it. It's a great car for having some fun or daily driving
I owned the Impala for 5 years. I graduated to the 2003 Marauder. I love both cars. Absolutely. Plenty of experience in both, but I'd take the Marauder 10 out of 10 times. Too many reasons to list. I'm a Chevy man at heart, but the Marauder is simply the better vehicle.
I wonder if the LT1 in the Impala SS is under-rated at 260hp? Seems that it always tested to be at least 1-2 seconds faster to 60 than the Roadmaster or Caprice with LT1. Not sure about all variables. I wouldn't doubt that somehow, somewhere, there's 20-40 more horses in an Impala SS LT1 than the others with LT1s rated at the same 260hp
Marauder all the way. Way more comfortable. Handles better. Brakes better. With the RPM limiter disabled, nothing like the sound of a 4 valve V8 at 7000 rpm, and the top end is unlimited.
EXACTLY!!! people always say the impala is faster from 0-60...but what about from a Roll where the big 32V V8 SHINES..Going 50-130mph the Marauder would flat out Embarrass the ImpalaSS...My 04 still keeps up and sometimes beat cars of today from a Roll...Marauder ALL DAY
Yeah, but the stock 4.6 DOHC cams run out of breath around 6,200 rpm and revving them over 6,500 does nothing but make more noise. You have to pay $1,000+ just for a set of 4 cams!!! Then have fun installingl them! I bought a Marauder brand new in December '02....great car, but expensive to mod/make it fast.
Is that a MA state trooper Vic @ 1:44? I like the Merc. But my 08 SS would chew them both up all day, but I hate front wheel drive. I'm driving a P7B last year 2011 ex campus police. Had 1998 P71 and 06 P71 in the past.
The Impala SS was not detuned. It put out 300 horsepower. GM said 260 horsepower because they were not about to have any other car be equal to its flagship the Corvette.
