I can still remember these in stores selling for $7.95 a pack and I thought it was outrageous. Course this was 1993 when money was a lot less

His wife saw there was no Back Lotus and left the deck in the safe! haha

That starter box had an old school combo in it. Royal Assassin/Icy Manipulator. Nice.

Those gloves are worth more than the alpha starter deck these days. Should have left those gloves sealed in the box and made a fortune.

Man this brings back memories from when I was a 10 year old that bought packs from the local movie rental store every weekend.

Man I remember playing with many of those cards but with the 4th edition reprint. Good old high school days. Loved that Ice Age expansion!

Congrats! Beautiful stuff! My first ever starter deck (4th Edition, August 1995), included a Royal Assassin as well! Unfortunately I was 2 years late for the Alpha copies!

Can not really say why but royal assassin has always been my favorite magic card. something about a 1/1 completely stopping the other player from attacking is just badass lol.

What an awesome selection of cards!! Brings back a lot of memories... I wish I could get one of every MTG card from the start and up through the first 10 years of the series just to have in sleeves hanging on my walls to look at.

God I love the artwork of the first cards. Really everything about them is cool. Especially the way the font looks on the blue cards at this time. The artifacts and lands look sick too. Like the vintage Island card with the pink sky was really cool.

I miss opening the old school packs. I was in the Coast Guard when this game started. I would buy them by the case. I got out of Magic in 1998, sold all of my cards, bought a truck and a motorcycle, and thought I'd never look back. Then my son dragged me back into this game 2 years ago. Man am I kicking myself now. I had 3 Black Lotus' and the Alpha set was complete twice in binders. I could retire if I saved those cards until today.

So you know, we have a rare book collection where I work and the librarian said clean, bare hands are better for paper than gloves. There are often powders and things like that on the gloves that are worst then the oils on your hands after washing apparently, check it out

I have no idea what their backstory was. Maybe he was a jerk. Maybe he did her really wrong. But whatever it is (unless it has to do with domestic violence), there is just no reason to treat another human beings personal stuff like that. I am not talking about the deck alone. But all the other things like passport etc. What kind of insane person would just willingly destroy someone on a existential level just out of a grudge? This saddens me as much as it makes me happy to see that this wonderful nostalgic treasure survived. And the fact that with Rudys transaction, this gentleman has a new foundation for a financially stable life!

Never been a fan of Magic cards. I was a baseball kid. But thoroughly enjoyed your video and your excitement opening these up. Wish I would have gotten into them cause I worked at a card shop when I was a teenager when these very first hit the scene.
