You gotta check him out doing a regular paddock interview. Totally different vibe than this one which is quite literally going through a highlight reel of the best moments of his life. Hard to be humble when it’s literally just all his achievements. I have a lot of respect for him, he’s statistically the goat but has had a LOT of odds stacked against him in his career. The chip on his shoulder is always gonna be there being the only black man in this sport. Love Lewis! He also does this amazing motivational IG messages.

Have to disagree there. Sure his vibe changes, but he is always very aware of how he speaks and tells a story. He always wants you to believe him, he wants you to know he is telling the truth, also in the paddock. No bad words here but as told in this video he is definitely selling himself more than letting people be sold to him...

@coin5207
@coin5207 Год назад
I feel like these kind of vanity style interviews always bring out the media trained side of people and it's hard to gauge what someone's really thinking just from that. If you're interested in more Lewis stuff there's a video from 2021 with him and his then teammate Valtteri Bottas interviewing each other - it's still an interview but I think when you have two people playing off of each other the end result comes across as a lot more natural (also you'd get to see how unintentionally hilarious Bottas is) There's also a good older video of Lewis and Sebastian Vettel being interviewed together at the 2015 Bahrain GP, talking about the parallels in their careers. They were both definitely more openly cocky back in the day, so it's cool to have that older footage as comparison. I think in general, maybe watching one of Vettel's interviews would also be interested since he is retiring this year and is also arguably the most charismatic person on the f1 grid today
@TwoTwoFourSix
@TwoTwoFourSix Год назад
Nah, Lewis is always media trained, he always gives the most PC responses lmao he’s known for that
@rulifaller8474
@rulifaller8474 Год назад
I’d say Lewis makes most interviews into vanity style interviews, and this analysis based on one video is actually remarkably accurate. His fans love to focus on his wide range of interests and his commitment to certain causes. His detractors see his obsession with himself and his need to be loved, him never coming straight to the point and constantly playing media games and the fact that he is a lot more insecure than someone like Max, despite the fact that he has actually so far achieved a lot more. Both sides are right I think, Lewis is just a much more complex person. Though I do prefer Max’s straightness and realism, neither of them have a personality that I particularly warm to, other guys like Charles or Lando have much more charming personalities. But then so far these guys have not been as successful.
@FranciscoHOS
@FranciscoHOS Год назад
I think that as a person, Lewis is very well spoken and good communicator. He's particular about what he says, which make it seem as though he is superficial or media trained. However, I think he's just aware of how his words can be used against him and that there is a large sum of people watching what he says, so he prefers to be more professional. If you look at videos where he's just having fun, hanging out with friends/family, he's a lot more personable and relaxed, as well as the post race interviews. Or the video where he talks about whether he would want his children to race in F1, he's a lot more vulnerable. I think if you dive into his childhood in motorsport and a lot of the racism he's experienced, it's expected that he's the type of person to seem more media trained and particular of what he says, in order to shield himself from public perception, whether or not it's negative or positive against him.

although lewis loves talking abt his successes n larger than life experiences, he also helps a lot of kids n inspire them to always believe in their dreams n work hard to get it, just like lewis did. i mean if you think abt it, after all lewis hamilton is still the only black f1 driver ever coming from very humble beginnings instead of from the wealthier side like almost all f1 drivers due to the nature of the very expensive costs needed for a kid to break into the sport. n its that 1/10000+ odd person that managed to equal schumacher's 7 world titles. that is like tiger woods x 10 kind of probability which is just insane. if i were him, i would think very highly of myself everyday too but i really respect the fact that lewis still managed to spend time impacting millions of people around the world n get into a lot of areas like fashion n flying all around the world doing celebrity influencer stuff while at the same time winning 5 titles straight while other drivers do nothing other than keep training n enjoying their short vacation days with family n friends. n f1 is also very physically demanding sport. btw RICCIARDO PLEASE! i kind of like his personality but i also see that he might be trying to appear happier than he is in front of everyone. n you're the communication expert so i might be wrong

You used casual interviews for Max and Charles, but a Vanity Fair promo thing for Lewis.... not really equal environments. And you need to hear Max when he's *in the car* (there are compilations).... *that* would be different. You're also not aware that these drivers have publicity handlers watching them 24/7, and have been coached on how to talk, speak for the team since they were kids. And that F1 used to be anti-public persona until a few years ago; now there is a lot of footage where they let their guard down.

Honestly there’s crazy amount of rivalry between Hamilton and Verstappen, especially with the fans. And honestly, how can it not, they are totally different from each other😂 A huge amount of Verstappens fans are dutch, who are generally a very humble and down to earth folk, which they love about Verstappen. He’s a no-nonsense kinda guy who seems to get neither nervous nor emotional about anthing. Hamilton on the other hand is a 7 times World Champion and has been at the top of the game with no one even close to him for YEARS. He has a lot of interests outside of F1 and i’m guessing, loves attention (which is not a bad thing! but apparently tends to rub people the wrong way). While Verstappen is in it purely for the racing and pretty much hates doing anything else, including interviews etc. Unfortunately that creates a lot of fights between the fans and they now hate each other and the other driver lol. I’m a Verstappen fan but you can’t deny the amazing things Hamilton has accomplished for himself

I think anyone who likes Lewis, this video will further reinforce why they like him, but the ppl who already don’t like Lewis will have something else to point to and say, “see he’s not genuine”. In reality, this is a puff piece meant to flatter him and highlight his achievements. He’s supposed to be talking himself up, that’s the point. So the ppl who don’t like Lewis because they think he’s arrogant or a narcissist is gonna still say the same. But Lewis fans know he has a kind heart and he displays that by giving so much of his time and energy to charities and organizations all around the world. He always thanks his team and his fans EVERY SINGLE RACE. No other driver does that. It’s admirable. I think it’s a key component to his success since day 1 in F1. The team works hard for him and he repays them with wins. On Max, in terms of racing, I think they are actually more alike than many want to see or admit. Though their lives outside of F1 are different, inside F1, they approach their preparation very much the same. Level headed & confident with a willingness to push farther than most. That’s what I see.

I've hated a lot of teachers, and there were definitely some that you could tell weren't there because they loved children and teaching, but they still all wanted us to succeed, because that's how they succeed. You got it down pat when you said he carries a chip on his shoulder. He's talked in the past about racism and his father telling him from a young age that he has to be better than everyone because he's black and people want him to fail. If comes across in some of his interviews and racism that when things go wrong, his first instinct is that someone is out to get him, like his team are favoring his teammate over him, or a race director is punishing him more than other drivers. I think that chip is what motivates him to be one of the greatest.

So fun to see all people (uhg lewis fans) all mentioning that Lewis is so different in this interview style than in a race situation. I just have to disagree with that. Sure his vibe changes, but his personality and way of telling stories does not. The fact that you guys have to say 'he is so different in this interview' just proves the point more. Lewis changes his behaviour and is very aware of that. He owns the f1 mental games. He does. But it is a huge difference when you compare him to Max or Alonso. They both do not change, they behave the way they do in every interview. So we would never have to say a thing like 'he is so different in this interview, you should check him out in a race interview'. Which ultimately proves the point of Lewis his communicational behaviour...

I don’t think he changes from interview to interview, but this is a puff piece, a sort of highlight reel of his highest achievements. They are trying to flatter him. When anyone is looking back at the hard work they have done, it’s gonna look a bit posed. I’ve never seen anyone not look odd in this situation. Just what I see.
@AnoshterHaar
@AnoshterHaar Год назад
@@shauna3865 yeah you have a point. These interviews are hard and confronting. But in formula 1 you always have these kind of journalistic politics going on. A reporter can and will ask the difficult questions right after an intense 2 hour race in smoking hot conditions in brazil or whatever jetlagged country you race in. As a f1 driver you get trained in these things and learn how to deal with them. And in my experience from looking to all confronting interviews and comparing them to other drivers is that he does change his behaviour. Sometimes even depending on who is interviewing him. He is a very personal and emotional guy who is a master in communicational politics/games, that carefully chooses when, why and how to say specific things. Don't only see this as a personal confrontation to him from me. These strategic communicational skills all play part in to why he has been able to destroy teammates and competitors in the sport. Which proves f1 is much more than only driving a car. Mental strength and mindgames(politics) play a role too. It is both his biggest weakness and strength at the same time.

I actually think you got to the core of Lewis’s personality really well even if that video perhaps isn’t the best example. (Though I think it says something about the kind of person he is to agree to make such a video in the first place) Especially the part about him being rather controversial. He straddles that line between cocky and confident. I’ve always been a bit mixed on him because he seems like a good guy but rarely seems genuine. Seems like he’s reading off of a script more often than not. Opposed to someone like Max or a really extreme example Lance Stroll who both may not give an extremely detailed answer when asked but their response doesn’t seem manufactured. It’s like you said, when you hear him speak it leads to putting a bit of a guard up and not really connecting to him.

I just want to say upfront and honestly that I'm Dutch and I'm a Max fan. However, I had a few years where I was a Merc fan as well and a Lewis fan at that. However, there's just certain double-standards and kind of hypocritical contradictions that have come from the guy that have really, REALLY turned me against him. I don't at all support the full on hate against him, however there is also a lot of respect that I personally have lost for him. Which is a shame, because it would have been so fun to watch the battle between him and Max as two drivers that I really love and respect. I do genuinely think there's a cockiness to him, a little too much at certain points. And there have been times where Lewis has turned the general topic and issue of racism, around to be specifically and purely about him and I really, really dislike that myself. However, seeing this reaction and analysis of him has been kind of refreshing as well. It hasn't changed my opinion that much, but at least a little and there are some genuine moments in there where I do think he's being honest. The biggest thing like I said that bothers me about him, that you don't really get in this actually, is the fact that he's contradicted himself on SO many occasions and SO heavily as well. Like rules that he strongly feels like others should uphold, he then doesn't uphold himself. Standards that he sets for all other drivers and teams around him, he doesn't uphold to himself and his team. And the amount of friends/teammates that he has truly pissed off beyond belief and gotten them to hate him, not just for his talent as he claims himself, but because of his behavior and attitude does still say something, I feel like. I mean, Nico Rosberg and him were really close friends, and Nico to this day doesn't really want anything at all to do with Lewis. A big part of why Nico retired from F1 was so he didn't have to race and deal with Lewis anymore.

What I have noticed about Lewis is that the way he communicates, and what he's saying/projecting into the world is too often not in line with the way he acts. When I hear him talk, and see the way he carries himself, I'm very drawn to him. Then I notice him being manipulative, dishonest and calculating and my narcissism bells go off. But you have to look closely at his behavior. I have experience with high performing narcissists, and I wonder whether I'm projecting or hitting the nail on the head.
