LIFE ON THIS FARM FOR OVER 100 YEARS

This is soon to be a century farm as my family has operated this farm since 1923.
My grandfather first rented this farm from 1923 -1927 when he purchased the 224 acres on a bank foreclosure for $9000.
This was an active dairy, beef, and hog farm until 1986 when we had the farm sale.
There was a time when we even had 185 laying hens.
There was never a shortage of work that needed to be done on this farm.
Come along for this short video history of the farm and the family.
Some of the picture quality is poor but then again, many of these pictures are 100 years old.
Thanks for watching.

Some very cool pictures Gary. 100 years on a farm is pretty special. There are a few century farms up here, but most of the peace country where we live wasn’t settled till the 1930s. A few people started in here around 1908, but the dust bowl chased the settlers out of the prairies into the bush here fairly hard in that time period.

@@tractortalkwithgary1271 👋👋👍🏻👍🏻 My son lives the house built by my mothers side. Was built in 1840 we figure. Next door my sister-in-law lives in the house that my grandfather built in 1920. My son’s garage built by my grandfather in 1919 after he came back from World War One. Was a farm, but not any more. All land was sold before my time. So I bought 2.5 acres of it when it came for sale. Son bought the house and 1.5 acres about 10 years ago. Have a great day. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋

Very interesting video, Gary. I always enjoy the history of properties, as well as the owners. My builder/real estate appraiser/tax Assessor brain was estimating the construction style and age of the buildings. LOL! I certainly understand your brother's desire to walk away from farming. My paternal grandfather and my wife's father did the same. I worked on a tobacco farm when I was 14. Tough job!! I wanted nothing to do with it after that.

Thanks Rick. My grandpa bought this farm for $9000 for the 2 places together. Made one farm out of them farming with horses and an old GP John Deere on steel . The farm would appraise for more than that per acre now.
