Are they in La Grange, Texas? If so, I did not know that is where Daryl lives. Wow, cool. Texas definitely has a lot of good music and musicians. Tons of live music here. I sure wish you would review this world class guitar guy from Japan. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rmBXxwRRzrU.html Here are some lyrics; he is getting better at his English, but he still has some trouble with the letter "r." And, here it is with a big Japanese artist in Japanese. I like them both. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aCO43_34YX4.html Miyavi is an actor, a guitarist/singer, and a style icon (he has affected clothing/fashions/etc.). He started out as a graphic artist. He did not think he was very good at it, and it was really hard. One day he picked up a guitar, and he said, "I am better at this!" "Ey yo, let's go c'mon. We've got no time 2 b down alone. See, the world still goes around the crowds a bounce, dance on the ground. Cuz it don't matter if u r gon b gone or not. Now look at the man in the mirror. Is he a winner? Or just a story teller? U r the only one who knows your errors. Embrace your memory, accept your history. No matter wat, let's dive 3, 2, 1, set, go. Be strong, all 4 your love Tho no escapin fate, im gon make my own frame. Ready 2 face my point of break. U may've lost everything but u gained many things. like the fact u r standin here, y'all got no time let's go."
Preach. I met the whole band back in 1988 (I think it was) while traveling with my dad. We were at the Memphis airport and my dad wanted to go outside and smoke. While we were outside Frank and Dusty came out (both were smokers) then Billy (who didn't smoke) came out and joined us. Of course I recognized the guys but was shocked at how small they were. Billy wasn't as short but they were all so thin. To be fair, I'm 6'5" and was well over 250lbs. so they might have just seemed tiny. ;-) They were incredibly nice and friendly and, somehow, no one else came out and talked to them. This was during the heyday of "Afterburner" and "Eliminator" and all those HUGE videos on MTV (who used to play videos - true story). Totally respect those guys. Stay safe everyone. Cheers from Florida.
@@kingbrutusxxvi I sat with Billy and had a few bears at a strip club in Houston. Extremely down to earth guy. I didn't make a big deal about who he was but did express my appreciation for his talent and contribution to music. He tipped with $2 bills. This was also in the 80's. Later people started coming in and they were making a big deal about him and he quietly said "that's my cue brother". He got into his pristine, perfectly restored old Ford pickup and went home. Saw him another time at a casino in Louisiana. I spoke to him, introduced my wife, brother and sister in law to him. A few hours later he stopped back by the craps table and addressed us all by name and asked how the table was treating us. I'm 6'4 @250 and yes, he's much smaller than I expected. His personality and character is that of a giant though.
I can easily believe that. I stumbeled upon this video in RU-vids few years back, Billy Gibbons playing guitar on the streets of Helsinki: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YHUQNxggT_k.html (not my video, unfortunately, I wen't past that point in wrong time that day..)
Remember, Billy Gibbons is 75 years old now. He was around in the mid 60s, and toured in Europe with Jimi Hendrix over 50 yrs ago. He's still playing those Texas Blues.
And to think that Jimi said Billy was the guitar best player in his opinion.I’m sure I am paraphrasing but there is an interview where Billy is reminded of that quote and he says yeah we had a great time when I played on tour with him etc...
The drummer is Frank Beard, the only one to never have the beard. He said that he didn’t feel the need to grow the big beard since he WAS a beard. 😂😂😂

There's a wonderful documentary on ZZ Top, "That Little Ol' Band From Texas"… damn, but I think I read it somewhere, that early on Frank had a beard and Billy and Dusty were clean-shaven, then they went on vacation and returned as we know them now, and their manager told them to keep it that way.
I don’t know if you realized it but the guy who played the third guitar solo with the black guitar is the normal keyboardist. Those guys are super talented. Looks like they had a special guest on organ/piano.
Didn't see enough of his face to realize that was him (Eliot Lewis), but I did know he also played guitar. Wikipedia confirms his appearance (with guitar) and adds that he does a number of solos in the other songs from the Gibbons episode. According to IMDB, the guy on the B3 is Mike Flanigin, who has worked with Gibbons before, including on his first solo album. IMDB also credits a Martin Guigui for the piano work. He's listed as a filmmaker, composer, engineer, who also apparently plays piano and B3, and has performed with and recorded with a list of music icons too numerous to list here (including Gibbons). Thanks for pointing out Eliot's guitar appearance here. If not for that comment, I'd never have been motivated to look up the rest. Reading these comments is a continual source of new musical enlightenment.
Barry Anderson that’s cool man. Wow that’s a lot of info you looked up but so informative. I love this band they are all so talented. That’s for the info!!!
I will Never tire of this level of talent bringing it all on home to Daryls' House. I get Jamels' decision re the unboxing videos, btw; I've seen some comments from people who enjoyed them, which I did myself. Thing is, this is a working man who has a wife he needs to spend time with, family whom I'm sure he does as well, and a life outside of RU-vid. I'm still sending him some Gary Moore and quite frankly don't feel the need to see him open the pkg. People love Jamels' channel because he gives so much of himself into music he's come to love as much as we already do. That's more than enough for me; just keepin' it real. Peace.
i heard that when Led Zeppelin first toured the states, they were the undercard to ZZ Top in Texas ? I saw the Top in germany back in the 80's in a basketball arena, left the concert with legs of jelly, absolutely great gig.
Oh, that Texas Blues Shuffle! Whiskey drinkin' music right there! .007 ga. E string is super light. Most players I know are either .008 or .009 ga. Few are using .010 or heavier. And that drummin' brother kept that train right on the tracks! Left hand was working a true Texas shuffle!
Honestly, I thought they ranked him rather low, at 32. There are a lot of guitarists that I would have put him above, but they probably had more "impact" as a guitarist. As far as technical ability, Billy should have been in the teens, at least. In my mind, he's on equal footing in the blues with Clapton and King.
@@shaneofthehillpeople Prince lost it because he was not on the list at all, hence his performance with Tom Petty and others doing George Harrison's My Guitar Gently Weeps. So tonight I looked up who does the voting and I found it was mostly real rock gods and music legends voting. It's an impossible list really. Like Glenn Cambell and Roy Clark, masters of their instruments. Eddie Van Halen making his infamous Guitar from junk. Tough choices.
@M Fisher i could have used Guitar World or Wikipedia as a reference list of the top 100 guitarists of all time. What has bothered you? I only wanted the reactor to know about the man's skills. Not many realize how talented Gibbons is. Peace
@M Fisher so factual information that imay be nknown to most including the the reactor is not important? The reactor asked for information. Obviously he found it interesting. Chill out dude.
Yes!! I sooooo wanted Live From Daryl's House!! I loooove that show! Another one from LFDH: Tommy Shaw from Styx and the song is Renagade. Thank u for the awesome video!! Love it!! Take Care!! ✌❤🎶😁
Sadly I just heard dusty hill passed away today. The bass player for zz top. My heart goes out to Billy and Frank and dustys family. I have loved these guys since the album tres hombres in early 70's. These guys are among the greatest artists and blues rockers to ever be inducted into the hall of fame. I have la grange as my ring tone. I can't say enough about these guys. One of my favorite bands. Rest in peace dusty. Very sad day for me. My friends and i boogied to you guys for years. Love you all!
ZZTop played this with John Lee Hooker, who they took a lot of their style from. You should look it up, it's a great version! And...plugging for The Main Squeeze! Amazing band Jamel, you need to listen to them!!! And (x2)... GO LAKERS!!!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I have always had a sentimental attachment to this tune for several reasons. Back in the day, my good friend Tony T., a phenomenal guitarist and vocalist in South Florida, did a cover version of this tune and he used a cordless interface for his guitar so when he played this tune he would go and run around out in the audience. The crowd loved it. It was a great time. It’s amazing to see someone do a quality version of this live. Thanks for reacting to this tune.
Billy's father, was the premiere band leader of Houston from the post war to 1960's. Often playing at the River Oaks country club, and the "Shamrock Hotel" , (the hotel that inspired the climax of "Giant")..I worked at a record store after high school, and was introduced to Billy Gibbons by the owner of the store. Billy and I weren't pals, but bwe had a couple of moments together, once or twice a year. I was pretty hip on music, for an 18-19 year old, and Billy complimented me on it. It was so cool when "Eliminater" came out and for two or three years ,ZZTop was the world class rockin band of PLANET EARTH!! Dusty had a birthday get together, and it went all night, with myself, Randy T. and Dusty the final persons on our feet. Not pals, but very polite, down to earth, and yet, artists, with the gifts of appreciation, that artists have. memories...
@connie baldwin yeah brother of Southwest record tape on Westheimer near chimney Rock 5757 Westheimer and then the other store 14011 memorial drive yeah Dusty on the little nightclub at gessner and Clay road and his house was about a football field away from there and that's where that all night party thing was you know aside from Frank in the early days ZZ top was not a druggie band nice saying they never tried nothing I wouldn't begin to know I was not in that scene I was on the periphery. I'll tell you what Dusty had a stepdad and a biological dad both of them were there and I cook breakfast before we left when the sun was coming up and Dusty had his eggs over easy and right when I sat down and take my first bite and over easy egg hit me in the forehead and Dusty's laughing cuz he threw it at me and then I took a couple bites and look again and Dusty's asleep in his chair with his other egg on his beard
This is like a Vegas version. It’s good but I still prefer the down and dirty of the 3 man band. Btw, damn Marvin Zindler for getting the Chicken Ranch shut down in La Grange
@Jon Williams I didn’t realize he was in law enforcement. I just knew him as an “investigative reporter”. I never liked him when I was younger but now that I’m older and look at our crap journalism, we need more with his drive.
I saw ZZ Top perform this song in Omaha in 1977. It was a party beginning to end! Still one of the most memorable concerts of my life! Daryl Hall is my hero for bringing all of the greats to his house. Like you Jamal, he is keeping great music alive. Happy birthday Daryl and thank you Jamal!!!!
Saw ZZ Top in concert once. They were amazing! Love these dudes! They always used to say they had those beards to hide from the law! They have one helluva a car collection too.
I was lucky enough to see ZZ Top when I went to a concert in 1973 . We went to see another group and ZZ was on the bill. Had never heard of them and have been a fan of theirs since.
You should definitely explore the Les Paul sessions. He is the guy that invented the Les Paul guitar and did a bunch of jam sessions in a basement somewhere. The one with Billy Gibbons is excellent. Also the one with Brian May from Queen. Check them out.
paul Beydler Daughter just moved from La Grange. I love ZZ Top too. When ZZ Top showed up at all y'alls county fair I could have kicked her butt for not going to the show. Arrrgh!
Saw these guys at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. Way back in the day. Met them later at a bar in the lodge we stayed at. One of the best concerts I ever went to. Always like the reactions. God bless.
Jamel you are indeed keeping great music alive AND, exposing some of these young folks to it that would have never heard it otherwise. You are awesome Sir.
Jamel, you are such a Light in the world, especially now! Keep sharing the love and it’ll come back ten fold! I’d watch anything you do! Thanks my brother 🙏
This is the kind of juicy, jam session blues you can hear in some sketchy, panhandle honky-tonks in Texas...The kind of place where they put up chicken wire between the band and the "patrons." (It catches the flying beer bottles so the jam won't stop) LMAO!
Yes, Jamel - that level, that connection. 💜 Loved that performance (minus the "guest" keyboard player. Not sure if he was a second guest. Because that song and that band never had a keyboard player. Daryl's House has their own keyboard player but the guy in the knit hat on the keyboards I don't know who he is unless he was just a second guest that day.). I enjoyed seeing Billy Gibbons even if he was by himself that day. I have seen him do a lot of solo gigs in recent years. He is interesting to listen to If you ever get a chance to hear him in a conversation. That part in the middle of the video was great too. I love how understated the band is in their performance in a way. I mean they are outrageous and in a way also. But they're just so tight and so together it's not craziness jumping on the stage but it is a whole lot of sound coming from that little ol band from Texas. Thanks a lot Jamel! Loved it so much. And happy birthday to Daryl today!!
How can anybody not absolutely love this band? LOL. What an amazing guitar player!. Wow! Super super super interesting at the end. I'm a guitar player and I love both BB and him. I never knew that about the strings between them. Thank you for sharing that
Darious Rucker (aka Hootie) said that playing at Daryls House is the most relaxed and fun gig ever. He said it's like hanging out with the crowed in Collage and Jammin'. The Daryl top chef team prepares an encredible layout of fine food for all his guests, and everybody, singers, musicians, sound, camera crew etc all sit at the same table. You can see some of the whole episodes on YT. What a treasure chest of GREAT music....the talent is out of this world.
