Love these streams. Even better than your great reviews. Keep it up. These really show your experience and command of the subject and differentiate you from other reviewers, none of whom could pull these off like you can.

Hi! Love ur reviews. If u listen to a lot of electronic music, would u recommend the aeolus or the auteur? Worth noting is i really enjoy female vocals aswell.

I caved in on Saturday and received the AKG K371 today. I'm returning it tomorrow. I compared it with the AKG K275 (pads swapped, stock were just too small and did not seal), Beyerdynamic Custom Studio (modded and with Shure 1540 pads to bring the treble down a bit), M-Audio HDH50 (original pads went, third party pads with Beyerdynamic foam used instead) and Edifier H880. Compared to the K275, it's more comfortable, sounds like the driver in this is a bit faster, might be better extended down low, but it also felt a little boosted there. Sibilance on this Q/A video was very noticeable for me, and Metal sounded somewhat higher pitched compared with the rest of the headphones above. Soundstage seemed wider than on the K275, but it lacked the depth and height. Imaging seemed similar, but somewhat compressed compared to the K275. Basically, they have improved the speed, boosted bass, introduced at least one significant spike (guessing 5-7kHz region because of sibilance), boosted treble somewhat, build was made maybe a little more portable, but they swapped almost all metal for plastic and not very reassuring plastic. Also, the adjustment mechanism seems to be plastic and they don't stay on each adjustment level very securely, which I quickly found rather irritating. Noise isolation wasn't bad, but not as good as the Beyers or the M-Audio, even when I put the pads from the HDH50 on the K371. It was a hair better than on the K275, but not really significantly. It actually sounded a lot like the Edifier H880, but a bit brighter with more sibilance. I also tried pad swaps for: - Yaxi stPAD 2 - bass seemed a little cleaner, but made no difference for the highs. - Brainwavz oval gel micro suede pads - almost eliminated sibilance, but boosted bass too much. - Shure 1540 pads - unexpectedly no difference to sibilance levels.

Thanks, that's really interesting. Just sounds like it's a brighter tuning than average which would be par for the course if they're trying to replace the 553 with this. Weird that Olive seems to have confirmed they are trying to target Harman even with these yet it comes out as sibilant. Ugh
@Slapo007
@Slapo007 4 года назад
@@metal571 Looks like they might've missed their target (or the Harman target is too bright for me). One thing worth noting is the pads were a decent size on the inside with some wiggle room. If I moved my ears all the way to the front, the sibilance was reduced (and gone with the Brainwavz pads), but imaging and soundstage suffered quite a lot, so it wasn't worth it for me. If you get the K371, try getting your hands on the Edifier, too. It seemed to me to be a similar tuning with somewhat better controlled treble and more bass (sub-bass, too), but after pulling the mid and upper bass down a few dB in Peace, it becomes quite nicely balanced.

My friend and I had a bad experience with closed-ATH. His M-50x's mainly is the stock pads degradation within a year while using indoor with A/C approx 25 C. My MSR7's clamping force is utterly hurt my head and ears even after head band bending. And boy they have such aggressive mid-high (poorly guess) unlike Beyer's highs but still harsh for my listening. Good thing is ATH sold as a second hand very well, people love them. PS. I really the Q&A format, maybe next time I won't miss. Cheers!

I got the MSR7b. They have the clamping force fixed. Not sure how do they compare to MSR7, but I am absolutely happy with them. Indeed if I listen too long and at high volume then the 1.5 kHz bump starts to hurt. But everything else is awesome. I have found some reviewers comparing these to HD600, Momentum and DT770 Pro 80 Ohm and they say MSR7/MSR7b are better. So I am again and again puzzled by metal's findings. Well, at least there are a pair of headphones that I expected to be rated high and he likes - DT770 Pro 80 ohm :)

Sorry i can't ask this question when this vedio was live but i have noticed that you don't like the argons that much. Do you prefer the Beyerdynamic DT1770 over the Argons MK3 ?

Nope still would take a K553 over either of those

whats up with Focal headphones.... every single one ive tried so far has had the drivers rattling and crackling when i play any song with moderate Thump in the bass region.... and nO im not listening to them very loud.... straight out the Hiby r6 at 70 to 80 volume..... its like they are made only for music with no bass............. contacted focal about this ... they say its MEANT to do that. they built it deliberately into the driver as a mechanical 'feature'... LOL sounds lke Hogwash to me

Heard about the bass clipping but usually it takes some massive volume to do that, over 100 dB so that's strange

@@metal571 yeah , I though it was suppose to be with crazy volume too ,but testing it on multiple pairs , elear and elex , it seems that certain songs with crazy amounts of bass and subbass clip and much lower volumes ... Seems to sort of scale with the bass I guess

That's not my experience at all with regard to the HD 300 pro. The peak at 8.5k or so is nowhere near giant. The bass hump is not that prominent either, but most people don't minds that to begin with. The rest of the range is really flat. Correcting it with the Sonarworks Reference 4 factory profile, the before and after sound not all that different. For every other headphone I've tried, I experienced a major sound signature change after applying the profile curve. I think that means the 300 are really neutral. Nothing like the high peak on the DT 700 Pro 250. Now THAT'S giant. That headphone ticks a lot of boxes otherwise but I'm selling it because I just can't stand the peak.

Max and I originally trashed on it because we heard the MX4 and it was bad at past CanJams. Idk what they did but this CanJam it sounded great and so does the GX. So now I own a GX.

@@thizguy519 I'm not sure it's worth switching unless you don't EQ. I think the general consensus right now between Max and I is that it's got maybe the best FR for any big LCD, but it does lack in resolution and slam a bit vs LCD2. A fair tradeoff if you are an FR nut or just need it to be easy to drive
