Swami Chidananda, born a Hindu but raised in the United States, and on the other side, Swami Revatikaanta, born in the West but having lived for many years in India. What was the experience like? How is being a Hindu perceived in India in the modern generation? And why do Hindus in the West often practice Hinduism primarily as a cultural aspect? These and other topics are discussed in this episode of 'Thinking Bhakti.

As a Swaminarayan devotee myself, I very much support your mission. Mature seekers in Sanatana Dharma will always love and be drawn to other mature seekers. We each understand the importance of Ishwar, Brahma, Parabrahma, Maya, Jeeva, Guru and so on. The actual "names and forms" we give to these is surely important so that we can maintain single-pointed bhakti, but the mature amongst us realise that other seekers may use different "names and forms", and it is in no way contentious. I pray to Swaminarayan sure, and you pray to Krishna sure, but we are both praying to the same paramatma tattva. With love.

@@SwamiRevatikaantaofficialSwamiji, I am an Indian. I was born into a Hindu family, but I am an atheist. My family is very Dharmik. My mother is a devotee of Lord Krishna. I am not against religion, but I am against extremism. In my family, they don't force religion. Why have Western people been influenced by Hinduism?

Love what you said about the unity of Hindus, Swami Revatikanta. We need to celebrate our similarities, disregard differences and work together to push on Sanatan Dharma. I'm 51 minutes in and its a great episode with so many nice points.

I like the way it wraps. In the end it's about freedom from suffering and experiencing love. We should focus on people's desire for these things and not get preoccupied by the perceived barriers

jai Gurudev ji.i am a Hindu born and raised in India. i am 30 years old and i am doctor by profession. My family is very traditional hindu. my father and mother both chants Bhagwan name daily and do pooja daily but they are not so much educated so they havent read any scriptures. i was curious about deites and GOD. I love Lord Shiva and i have natural inclination towards him. so I started reading and I read bhagwat Geeta, 3-4 main Upnishads, Shiv Mahapuran and few other spirtual books. As you talked about this inner detachment. i feel this detachment of myself from outer materialistic things. i practise meditation and mala Japa every day. offcourse it benefited me many ways i am more calm, i am aware of my surroundings and many other changes i feel inside me. but the problem is i dont if these are problems or not but i continuously struggling within myself. like i havent been able to establish any romantic relationship like my thoughts dont match with the girls that i had dated. like i found many of them shallow i am not desrespecting anyone here but i mean i cant connect with them. and i think i dont want to marry anyone but as like all indian families my family also want me to get married. I dont know what to do its like very confusing for me because i havent been able to connect to anyone and i am afraid of marrying any stranger arranged by my parents. and second prblm as i am practicing meditation from last few years i have got few abnormal experiences during deep mediation which my mind cant understand and i dont have any GURU so i dont know what to do. when i got those experiences i got scared and stopped meditating because they effect my mind and body i cant sleep after that. from last few years i am searching for a Guru a master who can guide me and the i found your channel and bhakti marga channel. and since i have seen Guru Paramhansa vishwananda ji i am feeling a natural attraction towards him. i hope one day i will have his grace i will meet him. Thank you for these wonderfull podcasts that you are doing on your channel.

27:39 this thing happens to indian because 90 percent of hindu temples are under government control means government take money from temple(they dont take money from church or mosque) and use that money for schemes thats why hindus dont have gurukul, goshala &govt schemes are mostly against hindus like hajj subsidy, salary to maulana,51000 for graduated muslims and many things

The fact thst India exists today shows that Hindus are far more united than they are divided. Hindus are fiercely individualistic. So, it ismt not veru easy to get them to unite. It is a double edged sword. But sooner or later we will all realize what binds us Clearly

We are NOT naive Swamiji. Indian American are well informed and well educated, and well versed with philosophical aspect of the Vedanta including Vishishtadvaita. We are not monks. However, it doesn’t meant we are dumb. We are aware of the Shastras. And there is nothing wrong going to the Mandir as cultural celebration.

Absolute crap. I am in the same boat and i know very well about the real scenario. We absolutely know nothing about the core philosophy of Hinduism other than occasionally visiting Temples and participating in rituals. And if we keep on going this path without acknowledging our fault as a community. There will be no Hindu in USA after one or two generations. It's a very very serious issues. It's high time our temples need to organise philosophical classes about the core of hinduism. Rituals is great but there is no substitute to the Vedic knowledge.🙏🕉️

I didn't know that Hindus were so divided. What is the position of Indian communities, in general, especially in the West, regarding those who are not Indians but want to become practicing Hindus? Are they welcoming to 'converts'?

Indian youth is self deprecating because we have not received the education that makes us proud of our Sanatan dharma . Our education system is extremely westernized since the British raj Prior to that by the Muslim invaders who have dedlstroyed everything. Our culture , places of education . Places of worship all has been destroyed through thousands of year . Hopefully it will get restored as more of us are becoming aware of the richness of our Sanatan dharma

People have different intenses to follow certen guru as long it serves their purpose. Many instutions like ISCON have many groups once the guru is no more It's may be human weakness or maybe it's nature's rules to have diversity. It may seen in every Religion and every organization as it grows, it brakes into sects and subsects it may be I feel nature's own way to devide and differenceate between ideology. There is no Religion in the world which hasn't have groups till today. You may notice one bagwatgeetha is preeched by different guru's basically same philosophy.

We are NOT naive. We survived +1000 years of persecution. Spirituality also reflected in our behaviors. Your claim we ONLY go to Mandir for cultural purposes and we are not spiritual is FALSE. ONLY wearing saffron clothes and putting Shri Tilaka doesn’t reflect spirituality. We live in the modern world, follow strict diet & Gita and we are karma yogi, Bhakti yogi and we are SPIRITUAL.

We have to nurture and protect the real Hindu Brahmins in order for the Hinduism to thrive again. They are the knowledge givers without them we are blind.

Wow.. are you really asking where our connection to our spiritual institutions disappeared? Are we really hearing this? Lot of respect for both of you btw.. but may be Islamization, colonization and installation of colonial proxies generation after generation have not just eroded but razed our systems to the ground. It is a wonder that we are as much culturally rooted as we are, coz if it was anyone else, they would have vanished, never to be seen. Like the zoroastrians or bahais or coptics etc.

We are similar to stool as well it comes from our back side. Namarasa crossed the red line . So it was all sentimental before, not actually rooted in sastra. Very disappointed!
