The best bang for your buck is definitely the RG, however it's very stylized so if you want the best screen accurate Unit 01 kit look at the Kotobukiya one. Very solid, just needs some paint as the colour separation isn't great, but the construction is good and the quality is excellent. Also I've had the original release of this one since 2009 or so and the rubber is still totally fine, they used a really good material.

Bandai started using cut outs of the plate letters in mid/late 2007, earliest kit that started using it was the MG Turn A which came out in August 2007

After watching reviews of the old HG Eva-01, I can safely say that there are a few upgrades here (aside from the colors). 1.) The mouth of the old HG doesn't have red parts. It's all gray 2.) The purple on the shoulder blade were big wrap around stickers on the old HG. Also, the shoulder emblem was different. 3.) The old one doesn't have the progressive knife-holding hand (with the thumb up) 4.) The knee armor on the old HG can move tho (I wonder why they didn't do it in this kit) 5.) Old HG obviously doesn't have the AT field. But instead, it came with a spear and a big anti-ship kind of rifle. 6.) The green on the hatch of the Eva's back was a big sticker before. I think, I missed out on a couple of things, but these are the most notable ones.

I like LMHG EVA more than RG because it's very accurate with anime

I remember old HG Evas in stores years back, packed with rubberized elbows for seamless look, but limited articulation.

Not a bad looking kit. My rg 00 is shipping from USA gundam today. Stoked. Super stoked.

This is a REBUILD kit its different from the 1996 model. This re-release is based on the 2008 rebuild of eva kit, which was an updated version of the original unit 01.

This is just a repackaging of the 2.0 kit from 2010. Interestingly it seems like the shade of green has actually been changed to be slightly paler and more neon, though I'm not sure if that's just how your camera picked it up and in reality it's the same color. Those leftover parts are from the 1.0 kit from 2007, which is what the 2.0 kit was based around. They're more or less just updates of the 90's LMHGs with more modern engineering and the Rebuild designs - very similar builds, though in my mind the differences are drastic enough to consider them very separate.

Honestly. I’m gonna say this is the best Eva line. The RG is very stylised and is a bit of a hand grenade. The meng one uses really bad plastic for the inner frame and is just agony to build. But this looks like a screen accurate 90s eva and I love it.

Is it just me but I prefer the proportions of the LMHG vs the RG. The RG seems like what Michael Bay would interpret the Eva design vs anime accuracy

I loved these LM HG kit way back when when they came out when I was in middle school, I think I made 4 of these back then and I thought they are more interesting than the HG Gundam Wing 1/100 kit at the same time. The arms were interesting with good level of movement but they eventually snap internally...Somehow though I though those arms represent the organic nature of the Eva than the RG style arms...

I think this is the first lmhg (not the old 90s lmhg version) evangelion rebuild ver came with a gatling gun also the purple was a bit lighter compared to this one and the extra parts are for the first release of this kit the 1.0 movie rebuild design while this version I think is the rebuild 2.0 movie design

The 90's LMHG is pretty much the same except the knuckles aren't separate parts, the purple on the shoulder is black and requires a sticker, no AT field, and it came with more weapons. Also the colors are different.

Can you show how well the dry transfers fit on the RG when you review that?

I’ve built this mold before (Unit 02) but it looks like they did tweak the colors a bit. I think I might pick this up

Please do older evangelion kits especially NGE TV versions. Not a lot of quality videos showcasing their glory.

i have the original kit - this is literally the same except for the box art being slightly different and a page from the manual being taken out.

I have the awakened version from back then..looks really cool, but that rubber coated arm is really not for everyone. I'd like to try this one out along with the RG.

This is definitely a fan kits. It looks like its lifted right out of 1.0 and would look amazing on a shelf (with its seams fixed).

Is it possible to mod the elbow, maybe make a couple cuts in it to increase articulation?

just a fyi for everyone the manual does tell you to glue the open style hands so that it doesn't fall apart all of the time

I have the original version of this kit from the TV show and this must have been redone at least some point earlier because mine is definitely more funky. The chest piece doesn’t move at all, the neck doesn’t seem as posable. Definitely different 🤨🤔

Is this the live stream kit you built? This mold dates back to the release of Rebuild of Evangelion 2.0 with an updated visual from the original version of the kit (and the extra parts) hailing from the Rebuild 1.0. Speaking of Jobby, he has a video of that particular kit. The alternate head parts should be good for a scene where she goes berserk. Unit-1 is the best anime waifu.

..this is from 2007 because this is the LMHG for the First movie of the rebuild.

Just got the old 90's version. Pretty much the same kit with a minor tweak on part separation (nothing substantial) and color changes. But the old ones came with more accessories, esp the Unit 01 Test Type. There are some runners that were changed here to hide the seam lines better.

Have you ever built the Kotobukiya Eva kits? I have the Unit-01 and 02 (TV Ver) and think that they've got to be the best in terms of anime accuracy and articulation (until the RG)

I've built both this and the RG, and I personally actually prefer this one by a fair margin. The bigger size and brighter colors really just make it stand out way more. Less finnicky parts too. Not to say it's an objectively *better* kit. I mean, some of the color accuracy is atrocious. I had to paint a lot of the red details to make it look right. Still though, I think as a project kit, it's got the potential to be way more impressive than the RG with some work.

My son got this one for his birthday. We're having trouble that the waist area is a little loose, any ideas how to fix that. And glue you mentioned something called sticky glue what's that. Great video thank you very much for showing that

LMHG, maybe in new colors with a new runner for new parts/gimmicks? Or was there a separate mid-2000s LMHG Eva kit line that this is based off, maybe in new colors with a new etc. etc.?

the limited elbow bend is a no-no because you can't replicate it reaching the Progressive Knife from its shoulder pylons.

the older kit is pretty much the same just a different design, different color, and you'll get a big sniper riffle/cannon..

My problem with both the HG and PG model kits of the Evangelions, is that they are too W I D E

OK bro you could clearly tell this is not the 90s kit. It's a repackaging of the Rebuild. The fact that it's using the Rebuild's design is a dead giveaway but the accessories aren't even the same. I built the original kit, and that came with the knife and rifle but it also had the giant sniper rifle and a spear (not the Lance, just a generic spear) it also never came with the AT Field.

Thanks for the review and video Zach. Unfortunately this is one of the worst Unit 01 kits on the market. Probably on par with the awfully sculpted Meng monster kit. No idea why Bandai screwed this one up so much in terms of rhe shape. Like a weird hybrid of TV and NTE...yuck.
