LO23 hemi Dart 9-22-19 Thunder Valley Dragway 

I'm an old Mopar Head 62 years old and there's still nothing better than the sound of an old school Mopar thumping its way down the street or the track love it forever

The Ole Hemi day's, they pretty much ruled the track back then, nothing like the sound of them fire breathers

A guy that owned a service station right across the street from my grandmother's house had one of these lo23 darts he used to run up in Naperville Canada and s.glens falls dragway it was called the rickshaw what a beast it was around 1973-1975 I remember one summer night he just got the engine freshend up and he made a pass down the street about midnight wow what a sound that came out of that thing it was chilling !!! Lol

I was here back in the 60’s. Watching SOX & MARTIN... HEMI CUDA. Ahhh the good old days.

I’m having fond memories of the seventies going to be two day points meets, my sisters waiting to get rides from the track owners, who were parking the spectators cars on horseback. There were so many they had them parked clear up the hill. Sad to see the track so dilapidated? And the steel guardrails are horrifying. It was one of the first tracks to have a cement launch pad, not long after Bill ‘Grumpy’ Jenkins dislodged a huge chunk of the asphalt. I used to sneak through the fence on the fence on the spectator side even with the cars staging and take pictures with a Kodak Instamatic. Always left before the fuel cars came up though so they wouldn’t come tell me to go. Have tons of pics from the mid seventies to late 81. I even remember the drag strip at the Sioux Empire fairgrounds!

I was 15 my first car was 68 Dart GTS 340. This was in 1970, never could keep the tires from breaking loose. You really had to BABY it in the rain. I sure wish I could have put 10 or 12 in. under it. LOOK at the MEAT UNDER THIS DRAGSTER. Miss that CAR!

Cool Dart, that's how the body came from Dodge on these cars in '68, you had to paint it yourself.

** I had the awesome pleasure of owning three A body 383 and 440's uncaged w/full interior street legals ... one of them made it in mopar muscle's readers rides back in 2000 ... nothing like an A body with a healthy big block ! GOD Bless

There's that damned grey primer Dart that you just didn't fu@× with. Last time I saw one was 1975 Atlanta Speed Shop Dragway. He left me at the light like I was tied to a post!

I worked in a speed shop from 1963-1969 when the NAVY took me away. We had one of those Darts and called it the Poison Dart. Fast mochine for sure!

There was one of these at the GNRS, in it's original condition. Small tires black wheels, in primer, just as it would have been delivered. They had a plaque with the story of the Darts, and Barracudas.

My absolute favorite car, the 67'-68' mustang fastback. It lost but, there is no shame losing to a Mopar because we all know they were drag strip monsters.

Damn, it sure reminds me of the good old days when those were mopar new offerings, I sure miss the '69 Chevelle I sold 5 yrs ago. What the hey, geezer and 4x4 nowadays, too many dogs

Thunder Valley Dragway is on a hill? That Mustang driver couldn’t even SEE the Dart when it braked to a stop!

These Darts ..& the Plymouth Barracuda of same setup..had magnesium crossram equipped, race spec Hemis. Not the regular 490hp street hemi..but 600+hp. Yaa, the street Hemi was listed at 425 hp..which was accurate..at 5200 rpm, but they made pwr to 6100..the 490 number, give or take, depending on fuel, tune, atmospheric condiitons. The Dart & Barracudas ran 10's regularly and could dip into the 9's! Stock!

I've watched this video a couple of times, and I keep wondering: Did your throttle stick after this run? You were halfway up the hill and still going, and in another 15 seconds you'd be in Hieb Park watching a softball game!

HEMI, even to this day all the Top Fuel and Funny cars run a Hemi based engine. Nothing like a 426 cross ram with dual 4 barrels though.

That mustwang is not only looking for his doors he’s prob looking for a mopar now lol 😂 this is a beautiful dart just like the day they came out of that factory I used to have a mag that had them coming out of factory unpainted one of the nicest darts out ther of these cars a lot were painted but I like this look the best original don’t get me wrong ther all beautiful but it’s the proper way to me looks factory other than wheelie bars and wheels that baby hauls ass

I don't know about other areas of the country....but in the Detroit area Mopar/Hemi ruled the day in the 60s. Maybe the only real challenger of them...the Ford Thunderbolts.

Poor pony still tied to the hitching post. Dart beat him like a rented mule. Seriously though, with a factor weight to HP ratio like 6 to 1 - Lexan windows, no back seat, van buckets up front, fiberglass front clip, etc. I guess roll cage and wheelie bars make up for some of that - was there really any questions as to who is King? All I saw was the orange elephant in the room. One day I too shall have my own, or a clone (Lo23, Wo23 or Ro23).
