The .32 French Long cartridge, a.k.a. the 7.65 MAS, has been long obsolete. In this video series I'll work to bring it back to life with an accurate safe handload for the French 1935A pistol.
Here in part 1 I'll take you through the load development and reloading process.
In part two I'll go out to the range and we'll see which load performs the best.

Great videos thanks, gave me a great starting point. Here's what I found. I own a 35A and 35S was looking for a load to function reliably in both using 110 gr 30 carbine FMJ. Power Pistol both 4.0 and 4.3 worked great in the S but not the A. Unique 3.5 and 3.8 worked reliably in both at and just over 1000fps. None had any length issues. Also used 32ACP dies and a Lee 32 S&W Long factory crimp die.

Thanks so much! I have 3 of these beautiful little guns and only a few rounds made up by the seller for me, been afraid to use them up. Now I can proceed!

I take it back, I have preferred your pre 1900 firearm vids but this one is very interesting. I remember these pistols for sale in the sixties on the back of the American Rifleman. I only have seen a few at gun shows. A fascinating pistol, just because it's "different".

Good job on the video. I find these old calibers interesting.

Mike, just a comment as to how much I enjoy your "projects". I don't have now and never will have some of the unusual calibers you work with, but I really enjoy the fact that just because it isn't easy, doesn't mean that Mike B can't make it happen. That is very refreshing in this "conformist" era. Good luck!

Interesting. I really admire the determination to come up with loading ammo that no longer exists. I worked up a procedure for reloading 7.62 Nagant, using a combination of a Lee Loader, an empty .243 hull, and a .223 seating/crimping die.. Still no way to full length resize, but they work for three or four reloads before the base swells too much.

Hey Mike, A little trick I figured out... I needed .309 dia. bullets for my 7.62x25 reloads and as you mention, slim pickins for bullets. I did get some .312 slugs for rounds like .32 H&R Mag and ran them through a Lee .308 or .309 bullet sizing die and it resized these jacketed & cast bullets down perfectly! Something you might give a try!
@johnwalker65
@johnwalker65 8 лет назад
i keep my cast bullets in .32 acp @ .311-.312 for .309 groove diam.you can swage the xtp 85 gr hollowpoint to .3095 using a lee .309 sizer you will get a little bit of springback.

According to NobelSport, the powder load for the 7,65 is 4,6 to 5,4 grs of Vectan SP2 with a 93 grs FMJ bullet.

@2:17-- why not size your lead to .001" over your slugged diameter as is standard practice with lead? Lee sizers are cheap. Also it is easy to hone a slightly undersized lee push sizer up to a desired size. I have corrected several of mine by taking a rod near bore diameter, taping a flap of 800 grit automotive sandpaper to the rod, and winding the paper around the rod. trim the flap of paper until it can just fit into the die, and turn at medium RPM with a drill. a drop of oil on the sandpaper helps. This will give a nice high polish too. Remember that lead has a little spring back, so I always do a little honing, then test size a bullet or two each time, and measure. As I get closer to the desired size, I test with a few more bullets and switch to 2000 grit if I have some. The whole process takes 20-30 minutes, but you get a very true very smooth sizing die. A similar process could be applied to a die for a lubrisizer.

I didn't even know the French had an Army in WWII. At least, not for very long. The French Free Forces fought under allied command and used, for the most part, British arms and equipment.

You might look into a Lee Factory Crimp Die for another round to see if you can get a better crimp. Maybe a 7.62 Tokarev FCD? Same bullet dia.

Unless I missed it, I'm surprised not to hear you mentioning Fiocchi - they're usually the go-to for all sorts of rare and long-obsolete stuff you wouldn't normally think is still being loaded, and you'd think they would make an effort with this one. It's a European cartridge after all, and it was in front-line use in living memory. It ought to be just the thing for people who love .32 automatics and feel the .32 ACP is a bit anaemic yet don't want to go all the way down the Mauser/Tokarev route. (BTW, is the classic Mauser a necked-down 9mm Parabellum, or is the 9mm the Mauser necked up?)
@keithlarsen7557
@keithlarsen7557 8 лет назад
+jsm666 The Mauser is a hotloaded borchardt, just as the Tokarev is a hot loaded mauser. 9mm luger is a knecked up 30 luger, which is a shortend borchardt, which was shortend to make room for the action in the grip of the luger.

Any chance of using cut down .30 Carbine cases?
@rangerstl07
@rangerstl07 9 лет назад
Looking at the case dimensions it is definitely closer than the rimmed .32 H&R case. The carbine brass might be too thick. Also, the head is a tad oversize right near the base. That's tough to swage out... Maybe someone would try it and report here?
