Lois & Clark TNAOS: Lex Luthor's 1st Defeat 

It’s actually kinda sad that John Shea’s portrayal as Lex Luthor is never remembered.

To me, this is where John Shea truly cemented his legacy as Lex Luthor. Throughout this entire sequence, he goes through all the motions - all the aspects of Lex Luthor that make the character so appealing. At first, when the police arrive, he plays the charming entrepreneur/businessman as a cover to feign innocence/hide his true self. When he realizes that that will no longer work, he turns to aggression/outrage to further protect himself. And when - ultimately - he accepts that the public won't buy his lies anymore, that even his own minions have abandoned him...Lex won't go down without a FIGHT. And when he's denied escape - denied the ultimate victory over his hated foe Superman - Lex will go down on HIS terms. "Top of the World!" It's an excellent sequence, with Lex's deception, ruthlessness, resolve, rage, cunning and formidability at their peak. And perfect proof that (like Clancy Brown, Gene Hackman, Jon Cryer and Michael Rosenbaum), John Shea truly was Lex Luthor.

He didn't let him die, Superman tried to save Luthor, but he was still extremely weak from being in that Krytonite cage that Luthor had used to kill him, so he couldn't save him.

It’s fitting that on this show Luthor wasn’t taken down by Superman but by Clark and Daily Planet Team.

All these years later... everything about John Shea's performance as Lex Luther is so perfect.

Yep. Odd thinking though that Clark would be willing to blow his secret identity in front of so many people to save the life of his greatest enemy. But he obviously would have.

So no one is going to comment Lex was going to straight up Axe Murder Superman on 90's TV? These days that would be too hard core for a Movie. This is still the second best Superman show (the 90 s animated series is #1) and the best lex luthor.

Agree, I love Gene Hackman, but he was a comic relief more than an evil villain. I hope they get Micheal C Hall to play Luthor on MoS2.

John Shea is actually my favorite live action Lex Luthor. Clancy Brown will forever be the voice I hear in my head reading a comic, but Shea was the total package.

That line from Clark "...I can't" always stuck with me. As a kid I assumed he meant that with Lois on his arm and the crowd of people, there was no way he could turn into Superman and save Lex without revealing himself. Now that I'm older I realize it's more likely that Clark knew that the world would be better off without Lex and couldn't bring himself to save him.

They killed off Lex too early in the series

That's what made John Shea so great. He could play the sleazy underhanded Lex who was masquerading as a suave businessman because eventually he became obsessed with Killing Superman (after he realized he couldn't take his power or create someone as powerful). He goes out by his terms because he was discovered. His mask was taken off and he couldn't hide under all his lies. And due to Lex's arrogance, he wasn't going to allowed to be locked away in a prison cell

Smallville Lex is the best LEX EVERRR!!! No one has trumped him yet. Even the biggest names like Spacey and Einsberg.

I never liked this Lois Lane, she was WWWWWWAAAAYYYY too gullible and naive and WWWWWWAAAAAAAYYY too weak physically and personality wise for my taste. I liked her when she was being competitive as a reporter against Clark. But her fast infatuation with Lex and not seeing through his disgusting disguise was just insulting to me. The best Lois Lane after Margot Kidder was Erica Durance from Smallville.

As great as this specific Superman related television series was, I have to say that “SMALLVILLE” was better. And my favorite particular episode of “SMALLVILLE” was the ‘Fanatic’ episode when Lex Luthor is running for state senator of Kansas against Jonathan Kent, which is also the same episode where Samantha Drake portrayed by Annie Burgstede as the role of president of “STUDENTS FOR LEX LUTHOR” political campaign group at Central Kansas A&M University actually 🪒 shaves her very own head completely BALD 👩‍🦲 all the way through and through to match Lex’s look with no hair 🧑‍🦲 at all now for reasons like homage and devotion and many others big time indeed now y’all there. #Facts 🤙🏽🔥✅💯
