in soul caliber there is also ashlot who is victorian inspired and elegant, in I think soul caliber 3 or 4 maybe she has a clockwork heart in the middle, and you forget tekken ? you got lili and alisa that can be made to look lolita after you get the customizations.
One franchise I was expecting to see here was the Nikki series, specifically Love Nikki and Shining Nikki. These games are Lolita to the core and there’s even a Taobao brand that makes replicas of outfits from the game! A lesser example I think is Genshin Impact. It’s a bit of a stretch but I always thought Barbara and Noelle were classic lolita, and YunJin was qi lolita. Fischl and Kirara also give off kinda newbie/ita vibes but I find that actually really charming
Came here to say this, I was surprised to not even see it in the honourable mentions, especially since I vaguely remember Lor mentioning Love Nikki in passing when she talked about said taobao collaborations (I could be wrong about that though, wouldn't be the first time my brain has tricked me xD)
@@namtellectjoonal7230 she has mentioned it before, when she bought the taobao coord of an outfit from the game :D maybe she is not too familiar with it or forgot? idk but it’s a great game
i was surprised to not see touhou as an honorable mention. reimus outfit can be considered wa lolita, and other characters such as marisa, remilia, flandre, orin, hina, and medicine, among others, are also wearing straight up lolita fashion. there are also a lot of other characters who arent wearing full lolita, but clearly have that influence in their outfits. one of the main reasons i became a fan of touhou is bc of the wonderfully designed lolita characters.
You don't get to play as her like most of the other games in this video, but there's a certain side character in Persona 3 named Chidori who has a gothic lolita look! They don't even shy away from calling it lolita (I guess since the game is already rated M anyways lol), and while she's definitely old school by today's standards, it's pretty damn spot on for the year it released in (2006). She's even got a dress that goes over her knees! The Nicknamer(tm) of the game even gives her the nickname of Chidorita, it's adorable :)
Fun fact: The sims 3 released a store clothing set called "Street couture" in 2011 which included four lolita inspired dresses and one decora inspired outfit. Super fun memories! ❤
There is this bug girl in the legend of zelda twilight princess (Agitha), and she just looks awesome. She has the lolita style as well, in a very cool looking way 😀
*Yess I was coming to the comments to mention her, Agitha's style is gorgeous!! Super interested in her character too and hope she becomes a recurring one somehow
The World Ends With You also has some goth lolita items you can make your characters equip - in particular from the in-game brands Lapin Angelique and ConyxCony. Despite being a game without dress up mechanics, it honestly feels like a celebration of J-fashion as a whole and I thoroughly recommend it
Another great game that features specifically Japanese Street fashion in its many genres is The World Ends With You! You walk through Tokyo and go into different shops, and there are so many lolita adjacent items! Unfortunately it doesn't show on your character but it's really fun to see everything.
One game that I got So excited about recently having lolita inspired elements was Cookie Run! The newer character “Pastel Meringue Cookie” seems to be wearing a sweet-ouji coord and owns his own lolita-inspired brand called Romantic Sugar! (Ps. I feel like it’s important to mention that the company that made CR kinda sucks for various reasons so. keep that in mind please lol)
I think Umineko no Naku Koro ni is a very important Lolita-adjecent game that wasn't mentioned, majority of characters' wordrobe were directly referenced from Gothic Lolita Bible, there are even references to actual brands, for example Gaap's appearance is inspired by an outfit from Angelic Pretty, Gaap references this in the story by saying her clothes are from "Devilish Pretty"
the dress up game that reminded you of diva stars are actually omg surprise doll heads!! their bodies look a lot slimmer than the dolls, so i’m sure the dev just kind of lifted the designs, but they’re very recognizable
Lor would probably love candylicious from lol surprise and the "Fierce" version thats coming out soon is seemingly a little more lolita esque compared to the general kawaii/j-fashion inspiration of the regular one
there are actually lolita omg surprise dolls too. i have one from the tweens line named lexi gurl who has a sweet-meets-punk lolita style, and is super cute.
Another Honorable Mention : Love Nikki Dress-up Game ! I Know I Don't Play it but i'm guilty pleasure toward their aesthetic From Lolita inspired to Fantasy Style , You Can Got Every Style You Want there Yeah , What Not To Love from there ?
yess, that game does an amazing job representing lolita fashion ^^ Shining Nikki, the 3D successor does an amazing job as well and I love how many poses you can try and how you can even see the smallest detail down to the fabric weave, it's awesome * - *
Regarding Fashion Dreamer - they're likely gonna keep references to Style Savvy at a minimum because apparently Nintendo has trademarked the brand names featured in "Savvy" (at least the Japanese ones) while a completely different company is publishing "Dreamer". Hopefully, they'll be able to sneak in a few things.🤞🏻
The horror indie visual novel games of Berry Witch and Cherry Witch have sweet lolita characters that run cute cafes. Funny enough, one of the characters' names is Strawberry Witch. Yes, I was thinking of the Taobao brand the whole time. 😹
Time princess is a mobile game with a ton of lolita (and lolita inspired) clothes. The main portion of the game is a click through story. Some stories are based on classic literature some are historical moments or general time periods along with some that are pure fiction written specifically for the game. There's also a ton of mini games and a clothing collecting gacha system
Lovely Lisa!! It's a DS game based on the japanese fashion doll licca-chan and there's definitely some lolita/lolita inspired outfits in the game, licca dolls themselves have a lot of lolita/inspired pieces
For anyone wondering who the lolita in the Pokemon ad around 13:40 is - it's Robin-chan! She was an idol in the 90s and a pretty big deal in the general street fashion scene at the time, often featured in magazines like CUTiE, almost exclusively wearing clothes from the brand Maid Lane Revue (back in the day it was common for idols to become the face of one specific brand). In Japanese language resources, she's often cited as the progenitor of lolita fashion as we know it now! Unfortunately, her career as an idol was relatively short-lived, with her only releasing one single on CD and being an uncredited feature in a compilation, after which she faded into obscurity. If you're curious to see one of her performances, there's one of them here on youtube - just look up ロビンちゃん. Random fun fact - her stage name was given to her due to her resemblance to the character Robin-chan from the TV series "Ganbare!! Robocon". Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
Style Savvy/Fashion Boutique (I played Fashion Boutique) had such a hold on me as a kid when I got it in 2008 because back then I wanted to be a fashion designer someday; It still is one of my fave Nintendo DS Lite games because it introduced me to different kinds of alternative fashion/fashion styles.
No more heroes 1 and 2 has two lolita-inspired characters (Bad girl and Margaret Moonlight), though definitely much more revealing-possibly ita, honestly-than your typical lolita. The characters also typically only appear for one chapter and since it is a hack-and-slash there is a whole lot of violence in the game, but even if nothing more, I recommend listening to the token gothic lolita Margaret's theme Philistine!
I remember watching sims 3 lolita sim creation videos for like 5 hours everyday when it first came out, and idk why its still funny to me that these wax-figure looking sims with crunchy ruffle dresses and giant bows was my first introduction to lolita. It will always make me nostalgic 😂
Lor, i have a video idea! What if you asked an online stylist service (like stitch fix) to buy you lolita fashion? I wonder what they would buy and what hijinks would ensue... Also the original style savvy is how I found out about lolita so it's very dear to my heart :)
From what I can tell, these places work with certain ‘normie’ brands/stockists so I don’t think alt fashion is possible through these general stylist services. At least the styling quiz you take at the start seems to be a multiple quiz type with limited options based on mainstream styles. I think it may be a possibility through a personal stylist working as an individual though, although expensive and redundant if you can already style yourself in Lolita. Would be fun though if Lor could get it to work 💕
the girl's mode/style boutique/style savvy games are so amazing and underrated edit: the glum bunny skin in Fortnite has to be a gloomy bear reference you CAN'T prove me wrong
Here's my list! - Danganonpa: Celestia Ludenberg is full-on gothic lolita, and the silhouettes of Chiaki Fujisaki and Sonia Nevermind's outits are very lolita. - HelloSweetDays: A mobile game by Sanrio, features a ton of lolita-inspired dresses in its gachas. - Love Nikki: Many lolita items can be crafted, it even has an irl brand you can buy dresses from. (mentioned in Lor's video about cosplay) - Project Sekai (Colorful Stage): Some cards feature very idol lolita outfits and the character Mizuki Akiyamais known to be a fashion enthusiast that wears ryousangata and lolita sometimes, like in their card story Solitus Utopia, where they find a sekai full of cute stuff and lolita stores I LOVE IT - Roblox: Believe it or not, it has a bunch of lolita items and games inspired by it (like royal high). - The Idolmaster and Aikatsu games: the animes were mentioned in the last video. - The Madoka magica games: The main characters from the anime take inspiration from the style like most magical girls, but the games also add many new characters. - The Project Diva series: THE Miku game, some modules to mention are: Lollipop (from the lots of laugh song, which also gives the best Yume kawaii vibes ever), Patissier Gretel, Strawberry Witch, Brilliant Butterfly, Brave Butterfly, as project diva X exclusives, and in the rest of the games Out Of Gravity, Little Red, Vintage Dress, Fräulein, Gothic Purple, Pierretta, Dark Angel, Sweet Pumpkin, Ni-no-Sakura Butterfly, Magic Chef, PIANO*GIRL, Snow Miku 2019, March Hare, Snow Miku 2017, Princess, Gothic and Infinity. DS games: - Hello Kitty: Apron of magic: it is very limited but the avatars you can choose from are very lolita inspired. Doll fashion atelier: Dress up game entirely made of lolita sub-styles. Gabrielle Ghostly Groove 3D: It has magnificent gothic spooky Halloween vibes, and the main character has a lolita silhouette.
I managed to get style boutique styling star before the eshop closed and I've been having the time of my life 😭. I really hope fashion dreamer is successful enough so we can get more fashion games on the switch and maybe even a fashion boutique revival
Ahh Style Savvy! I remember going through Best Buy and seeing the game on display for people to play back in 2012, I absolutely loved it and my dad got it for me. Till this day I never get tired of playing it 💗 also we all hate EA for cancelling Alice😢
the original style savvy plot is my favorite because you start out working at a boutique and you save a random old guy in a suit from a goose attack and it turns out that guy is the BUTLER of the dude who owns the boutique you work at and he is so impressed and grateful that he finds your own boutique 😂
I think picrew would’ve been an excellent honourable mention since people make their own character creators and there’s plenty with Lolita fashion. It is a website not a game but it’s very popular and basically just like a dress up game
i think the second to last dress up game you showed is more inspired by the lol surprise dolls and it's absolutely awful if not surprising that EA is treating the creator, the person with the idea and passion behind the alice games like that
Nancy Drew: Shadow at the Water's Edge has a Lolita character that you can meet and a fun mini game where you pack cute bento boxes. It was a total surprise when I first played that game and I was so happy that my two different interests were combined 🥰
I’m suprised Celeste from Danganronpa wasn’t mentioned solely for being an outright Lolita in a very famous game. However she and the game is very problematic so I also wouldn’t be surprised if she was skipped for that reason.
I don't know if I'm delusional, but I would say Gwen from League of Legends have a lot of lolita influence. Also two Annie skins have lolita aesthetic (gothic? And cafe cuties)
cocoppaplay is a really cool mobile dressup game! it features a lot of gacha but ive been a free player for like 6 years and its not too bad once you learn the game. phantasy star online 2 also has MANY REALLY good lolita/lolita inspired outfits. i pretty much do quests to get clothes to dress up at that point. a lot of people play the game for the fashion at this point.
Shoutout to Celestia Ludenberg from Danganronpa and her impossible, petticoatless, hoopskirtless dress. Girl where the NUTS is that volume coming from???
Fashion Dreamer actually has nothing to do with Style Savvy, im still confused as to why people assumed it was part of the series simply because Syn Sophia worked on it cuz even from the first few ads for the game they made it clear it was a separate and completely unrelated game to that series
I started playing Style Boutique only recently and I love it!! I'm a bit dissapointed to see the same collection at Marble Lily and Raven Candle everytime I go shopping for stock, I hope Style Dreamer does this differently
Uminekos outfits for a lot of the characters and can be originally be seen in some older issues of the gothic lolita bible. Red bard made a video about this and i highly reccomend it
Theres one in a major franchise you managed to forget :0 Chidori from Persona 3! Shes even referred to as a gothic lolita. Also a persona 5 spin off game, strikers, the character Alice Hiiragi isnt completely lolita but has clear inspiration
One thing to add about Lolitas in fighting games is that you find most of them end up either being characters that don’t traditionally fight hand to hand OR if the must cause they’re in a game that requires as such they’ll typically be wearing Ero. I find the lack of restriction with needing a blouse, the more louse silhouettes, shorter skirt lengths and variety in foot wear (being boots a lot) gives for a more sense of realism that it happens to be a “Lolita” who is having to do more physical activity. Marie Rose from DOA is another 3d fighting game Lolita who’s categorised as gothic but I think her default outfit is honestly the closest to Ero I’ve ever seen represented in a game imo. It’s a mistake most make cause they know little about Lolita and just associate black or edgier aesthetics with immediately being gothic Lolita as a whole when a lot could be categorised as something else. Some characters in games aren’t stated as Lolitas and probably just wear more EGL like Lili from Tekken but the similarities in the types of styles, lengths, glove/foot wear and much more show that despite having a character with a very elaborate elegant fashion style they still want to bring a level of freedom to the movement and slight realism to it all when putting a Lolita in a physical fight. Amy, Lili and Marie all have the common factor of having to move around a lot and fight more hands on in comparison to 2d fighter lolitas. Examples like Vatista from Undernight, Ninon Beart from KOF or Rachel Alucard from BlazeBlue (more EGL but whatever) who utilise powers and extensions of themselves to fight for them while they twirl and swish around in their pretty coords. I appreciate however the variety in style, aesthetics and different looks in fighters when it comes to referencing EGL and Lolita. Side Note:Shout out to Marie Rose as well for also referencing Ouji in doa6 in an extra outfit she can unlock.
Since either people have mentioned love nikki and shining nikki, I want to mention another mobile dress up game that focuses much more on Lolita and Lolita inspired styles called Alice Closet! The art style is gorgeous, and I’d recommend it to anyone who likes love nikki or shining nikki
Not really a whole game in itself, but Margaret Moonlight's character from No More Heroes literally introduced me to Lolita fashion. I'm not into dressing like that myself, but I love everything about it I find it a very versatile style of dress
Dreamlight Valley's beta has a ton to do in it already, it's a lot of fun. I want to say the online visual novel My Candy Love also has lolita fashion inspired outfits, mostly their event exclusive ones though.
A little late to the party with this but Touhou is one of my first introductions to Lolita style fashion without even knowing what Lolita was. I started drawing characters in pretty dresses after that :D
One of the last flash games in this list is very clearly inspired by LOL OMG dolls rather than diva stars. Interestingly, I think a video about fashion dolls wearing lolita fashion would be lovely, lor!
Some of Lolita fashion in games that I know: Bad Girl from No More Heroes 1 and 3, she uses Sweet Lolita Margareth from NMH2, she uses Gothic Lolita Chidori from Persona 3, I don't really know what style it is, but I think it might be Shiro Lolita Eliza from Tekken 7 (she has the same name as mine :D), her secondary outfit is inspired in Gothic Lolita
I also have to add Tekken as one that features lolita inspiration especially with emilie n her outfits she has. I remember being so obsessed with tekken 7 n making lolita outfits for some of my favorite characters to use. HIGHLY recommend if you love fighting games mixed with cute fashion.
Love the video 😊 I recently went to GDC in San Francisco (it’s huge game industry conference) and you would be surprised how many game devs love j fashion. I want to Baby and AP since I was in the area and the shop employees said they had a lot of game devs visit that week.
Final Fantasy XIV has a couple of lolita dresses. The Blackbosom attire and the female model level 80 black mage gear are the ones I can think of right now. There also are a few dresses which I think are at least inspired by Lolita like this year's valentines day event dress.
Adding to your comment: There's also the Frontier dress, and the Quaintrelle ruffled dress, and the Loyal Maid set is my personal favorite for emulating lolita fashion in XIV. There are also quite a few hair accessories that can suit lolita fashion, like the Frontier ribbon, the many kinds of flower hair accessories, and the several kinds of mini hats (like the Neo-Ishgardian Hat of Casting), if you're into those. It sounds like a lot, and maybe it is, but I hope we get more options in the future.
Someone probably said this but FFXIV actually does have some Lolita-esque items as well as about two characters. You did show in the intro to the video, there was a Miqo’te in the Frontier glam set from level 80 treasure maps! I’ve mixed some pieces from classes or dungeons to make it have long sleeves(as best as I could) but there are far more items you can mix to make pieces as well as you can(Salon sets were added for the level 90 treasure maps) as well as characters such as Edda Blackbossom and Alma have some outfits as such! I’ve actually personally mixed many pieces to make some cute Lolita inspired dresses in the past :> Also very much love your content! ❤
I think one of the cool things about Love Nikki Dress-up Queen it that they actually use the tag "Lolita" on their lolita and lolita inspired clothes. Also one of the nation's is basically a bunch of lolitas.
I remember how happy I was when I found out that you liked the Alice games. I’ve been playing FFIV for about a year now and I always dress my characters in Lolita-esque outfits. Also, calling Atelier Pierrot the other AP got me laughing.
my brother and i create our favorite characters and random historical figures and host soul caliber vi tournaments where all the cpus fight it out. we’ve never actually played the game
lol the PlayCute Games section features designs stolen from Love Nikki, I swear that game gets plagiarized more than any other especially the lolita and cyber style outfits. As far as lolita style clothing the nikki series has some very accurate ones!
The Diva Stars looking game is actually! Visually based on the LOL Surprise brand, which might be up your alley? I don't know if you collect dolls at all but there's a lot of LOL OMG (the full size fashion doll line, Surprise dolls are small and i think also blind boxes? i'm not as interested in them so i might be wrong abt them) that are more inspired by Japanese street fashion (as opposed to lolita brands specifically, like in the dressup game) and they come in lots and lots of colors and styles. There was a line a few years ago that was Alice in Wonderland themed, the Tween Masquerade line that includes a Super cute character called Regina Hartt, which is exactly what you think it is (she's not really lolita but she's very cute).
I'd like to recommend the fighting game King Of Fighters: Maximum Impact 2 on the PS2 in 2006, for the characters Mignon Beart and her sister Ninon. Mignon herself might not wear lolita perse, but her main outfit has an ouji feel to it. Ninon on the other hand is definitely old school Gothic lolita, and her alternate outfit is Wa lolita.
I actually first found lolita fashion from style savvy trendsetters on my 3ds. Didn't know the term lolita until years later tho, but in that game I usually wore the "edgy" and "gothic" fashions and they were my favorites, but my parents didn't allow me to choose my clothing style. So now as an adult I have a bit of money for myself, I am starting to finally wear edgy and gothic lolita fashion :D
Harvest Moon Animal Parade for the Wii features a lolita character and the shop where she lives sells a few options for dresses with matching classic headpieces
AHHHHH I’m so happy to see Deathsmiles talked about! It’s one of my fave cave shooter games :D if you enjoyed playing it, I would seriously recommend Mushihimesama (another game by the same publisher) and touhou project!! Mushihimesama has an entirely different aesthetic, which might not be for everyone, but touhou has a very charming and cute style, albeit slightly ameturish as it’s all made by one guy. In the touhou cosplaying community, Lolita fashion is super popular and many cosplayers tend to redesign the outfits in that sort of way :D Another game with Lolita/lolita adjacent fashion that I super recommend is a visual novel by the name of Umineko: when they cry! Many of the characters like Maria, Beatrice, Lambdadelta, Bernkastel, and Virgilia wear super elaborate and classic-looking outfits :3 though, be warned that this VN has a lot of horror elements and gets pretty gorey at some points, and has more than a few dated/questionable jokes, as well as being an absurdly long read ^^ I firmly believe it’s very worth it,though !
As a French person, may I just say that you could totally keep pronouncing Atelier Pierrot the way you do usually because it's better than the butchered version that voice-over provided XD
While the game itself does sexualize the characters, there is a character called Mirai in the Senran Kagura series who is undoubtedly Lolita inspired, but her dress is floor length (to conceal a massive gun ofc).
Shocked that Lor, being in her Harley Quinn era, didn't mention Harley's ero/punk-lolita look in Arkham Knight. It's my personal favorite Harley design from the Arkham series.
Eh but does it really count...? I know the look you're talking about and I feel like it was way too sexualized even by Ero standards. If she bent over you would literally see everything lol
Oh that is actually my favourite depiction of Harley Quinn but I never saw it as lolita and never associated it with lolita🤔a Harley inspired coord could be fun 🎉
A video game that features a lolita inspired fashion is from the psychological horror game, Rule of Rose! However it’s an unlockable costume that getting the good end of the game is required, however it features a cute gothic lolita outfit for both Jennifer and her dog, Brown who has a matching outfit with her!
Style Savvy Trendsetters was my favorite for the characters. I played the US version so I got Michaela instead of Evie and I ADORED HER. I love all of them so much. Even though it's Evie instead of Michaela that makes appearances in the later games, it's still so lovely to see her. Also, they need to give us back the side braid/plait!!!! They took it away in Styling Star and I'm still salty!!!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬
So fun! I love looking for lolita-adjacent fashion in completely unrelated games, like Guild Wars 2 lol. I'm trying to get some specific gear so my necromancer can look adorable :D
There's this game called Atelier Firis where one of your party member named Ilmeria that I think had lolita like design with big ribbon on her hair and very cute dress. Also, the series protagonist, Firis, had a dlc costume that just a dress heavily inspired by Alice in the Wonderland.
Oh, what about Model Debut? There are some cute lolita pieces in that game too. ^_^ I actually thought Syn Sophia had something to do with it when I first saw it but they don’t. Oh! Also Pretty Princess Party. They have a lot of long dresses but also some knee length lolita dresses as well and they’re all so cute.
I knew I needed the bell berry outfit as soon as I saw her concept art! I freaken love fortnite! Wouldn't it be sooooo cute to lolita twin in fortnite!
Since nintendo hasn’t made a Style savvy game in 8 billion years, I am thankful FFXIV scratches my fashion and fantasy itch! There are some really cute Lolita options in that game and i am grateful.
Im also super excited for fashion dreamer! i sadly dont think it'll be very like style savvy since they took an all-multiplayer approach with no NPCs, after watching the trailers over and over I also think they will be getting rid of the brands, beautician, hair salon, etc because there is absolutely no sign of em T_T
