Interesting point of view on this issue. I’m 58 and my goal is to mod my recently acquired 2017 MK7 SE DSG to be a satisfyingly quick street car that performs, accelerates and handles better than stock, but doesn’t draw too much attention to itself, a bit of a sleeper with tasteful aftermarket wheels. When appropriate I like passing other drivers on the road as if they were going backwards. A strong pull always puts a smile on my face. Peace
Ran it for two years. Was fun. Just went IS38 Uni2+ and sure took a while to get used to not having the overrun file anymore. But it's a whole new world of walking Golf R's these days and I'm luvin it!
i got walked by a tuned Gti in my c450 "amg" when it was stock, very surprised. now that im tuned it would be a closer fight but still impressive that a little fwd 4 banger can eat with the biturbo v6s.
@@butt5810 power to weight does make things interesting! Once the 6's get going they will eventually walk the 4's but then there comes the point when the 8's will walk past the 6's too. So horses for courses. As daily drivers, these turbo4's pack 300hp from factory and the low end torque is addictive!
I have a love hate with it. I love it when it’s straight up single loud gunfire shots. Pop….pop….pop. But I do not like the little constant crackles. I had a crazy burble on my sti and it sounded like an AK, and popped on downshifts which was really fun. It can definitely be very obnoxious and I’ve gotten looks after doing it that I didn’t like so I took it off shortly after.
I'm older than you by quite a bit. At first I wasn't really into the pops/bangs years ago, just had my 350z uprev tuned, had one of the maps set to mild pops/bangs since I still have stock cats... I love it, it's the map I use the most unless I'm using the performance map. I know exactly what RPM range to take it to and I keep my foot slightly on the gas on the decel for the most pops/bangs. Your car sounds good man.
The burble tune does sound very good. Very similar to the Overrun file I was running from Revo. And because it's relatively mild and does not stay engaged forever, there's little chance for any severe heat buildup, which is the primary concern and cause of issues with tuners that run AK47 type crackle maps, especially those who run a fuel cut, since fuel also acts as cooling for the crown. The harder the overrun, the more timing pull, and thus, the more heat is generated. Personally I have zero experience with Unitronic and their parameters, although they may be similar to Revo, who only enable the overrun when certain values are within tolerable limits and operating temperatures are safe. Burbles then only kick in after 3K RPM on manual cars or Sport Mode on DSG/S-Tronic vehicles. We must also remember that 90% of cars that are able to run these types of maps are mass produced, which then allows room for engines that are either over or under-engineered from the factory. Some motors or components are sensitive to even their own stock parameters and fail within a few years whereas others can run for a considerable amount of time with and without their own stock ECU values and experience regular internal wear over time (or whatever would be considered normal). This is why tuning is almost always a risk on any vehicle, however, how boring would life be if anyone and everyone was content with a factory vehicle?
There are true “burble” tunes that gurgle and pop-maybe flame every once and a while too. I like the GTI and STI burble tunes you’ve shown like this. But then there burble tunes that sound like an AK mag dump. IMO they sound terrible and obnoxious, especially in traffic. I had to sit near a 3 Series for 40 minutes in traffic once, and the car sounded like Fallujah the entire time.
i LOVE burbles/crackles/pops also, there’s a tune that you can get for the gti. you can turn the the burbles on (loud and aggressive) but when you don’t want them you can turn them completely off, and you won’t hear it (very minimal if any at all). it all turns on/off with the cruise control switch. just an idea!
On my DSG, driving in D turned the burbles off almost completely. And driving in S turn 'em on. So basically, flick back of the DSG shifter to toggle on/off.
Honestly I want a golf after seeing everything you’ve done to yours, but I can’t afford it rn . Thank you for the content you make , you do a great job and it’s fun to watch
If you want the same performance for a few grand less, consider the GLI! Only downside is the lesser quality interior vs the GTI but the ambient lighting is pretty *chef's kiss* I love my MK7.
Having my mk7 for 3 years now has been an overall great experience and I will always recommend this car. It’s a fun and enjoyable car to drive as a daily!
Im Unitronic Stage 2 Golf R tcu and Ecu .if you login with Uniconnect , In the files there’s a option written (0.75) the backfire are reduce when let off . A lot more mature like you want
even though this video is almost 2 years old, I would say that this would have the be the most decent burble ive heard and would definitely consider this for my car, its not to loud and not to obnoxious.
I could be wrong, but I was told that burbles are caused when extra fuel is spirited during the exhaust stroke and that in burnt fuel is being pushed through the exhaust and then combusting in the exhaust.
Burble tunes can be cool if you have an option to switch the map to a non burble tune on the fly cause it can get obnoxious and annoying if it happens all day everyday
I had one with Apr stg2 so it would kick in on Sport mode and was pretty aggressive. Only issue I had was how aggressive it was on a DSG car. It would kick in every time I got off the throttle aboce 2.5k. Also with Police enforcement becoming strict, loud pops were a clear giveaway of potentially illegal modifications. Now I burble a little bit and will ask my tuner if I can have a lil pops.
I remember watching a video on Instagram of a mk7 golf (R I think) and the guy had it setup where it would burble in race or sport mode but would switch the burble off in normal or eco mode
So for my Golf R, Unitronic offers 2 different burble/overrun tunes. One is their tune and another is a .75 second. I have asked Unitronic for more details but their support specialist sent me a link to their website which was super frustrating.. I did my research before I dropped my money into their bucket.
It's one of those "if you know you know" things...I think they dont want to market it incase there's any issues for reliability. I drove mine for 2 years with no issues but i had the Uni dp so perhaps not a good idea to combine with stock dp.
@@mckylecfc no a stock downpipe would get shredded by a burble/crackle tune. I ended up going with Integrated Engineering and honestly, I love it. They have a crackle tune and my car makes good numbers now
The car sounds great, but the burbles are pretty dumb, in my opinion. 90% of the other drivers on the road are probably going to think your car is broken.
Honest opinion there’s nothing wrong with having an exhaust set up for a sport, tuner or muscle car that’s loud no matter what age if it’s what you’re into go for it it doesn’t have to be just for teens
i liked it when i bought my gti tcr but after 2 months of driving it mostly in Sport it started being annoying the tcr got it from factory for 1.5 seconds and here in germany if you use this kind of sound you will get destroyed by police and angry neighbors lmao
I live in Sweden and have quite a few vendors that provides stage tunes and pop&bangs How do I know which one to choose? If I go on youtube&worldwide, its vendors that is never heard of in Sweden!
I'm going dp and jb4 , too scared to void my Warranty lol too bad jb4 doesn't have option to do burbles. I'm with u though, don't like when it's super obnoxious
Bubble tunes are great. Just preference for how loud they are. I mean the new SUPRA comes stock with it and people love it... then they hate other vehicles that add it. People are just haters. It's all fun. Again... just preference as to how loud and abnoxious you want it.
There are some that sound ok but it’s the knuckle heads that drive everywhere and rev just to decelerate just like you said in the parking lot or in a neighborhood. Now if tuners gave the ability to turn completely on and off plus the adjustment that would be cool! Cause there is a guy in my neighborhood with what he believes is the hottest ST ever but it’s annoying AF TBH!
@@BLK_GOD no guy I know what rev matching is! 🤣 I’m talking about leaving your car in first or second gear in the neighborhood @2am accelerating just to hear your pops and bangs tune is plain dumb! Who the hell is trying to rev match in a neighborhood @2am -So maybe I should have worded it like this (knuckle heads driving around in 1st or 2nd gear accelerating just to decelerate to hear the PAB-TUNE)
It shouldn't be any change bc all its doing is sending a firing pulse while the piston is near the bottom of the stroke, and any I wouldn't think it would be programmed to dump a full load of fuel until its at BDC or on the beginning of up stroke and exhaust valves are closed. I'm not completely sure of VW's timing on injector pulse as I'm just on my first VW, but thats how I understand the crackle tunes to work. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
