The 29 people who gave this a thumbs down have no ears, heart, soul, or sense of humour or love of life. They must be seriously dead and dried up inside cause this is some of the best stuff anyone has ever done in my lifetime of 75 years.
I came to the conclusion that these must be people that got it in their recommendations by chance. I can't imagine searching for Mr.Prima and then being disappointed.
Imagine walking into a club with a group like that playing! They had everything, all the Witnesses top players. I saw Louis in 1948 at Prima's 500 club in New Orleans (his brother owned it ..Leon. He just bowled me over and made me a lifetime fan. I saw him in the 70s at the Monteleone Hotel in New Orleans....He died later of a brain tumor. Sam Butera introduced him in NO as "A man who sings pretty for the people " .....and he did just that. NOBODY today could equal him! deralte
There was no act like Louis Prima with Keely Smith and Sam Butera and the Witnesses in this formation. The bored expressions on Keely's face are priceless. How she kept a straight face through all that amazes me!
21 years old and I adore this music, nothing beats it. I love Dean Martin, NKC, Duke Ellington, Mel Tormé but Louis Prima tops it all, the stage presence and musical ability brings a smile to my face everytime.
@@Mrbeahz1 At the start of Sonny & Cher, late '60s maybe, my father who used the basement as his office at home, emerged one day when they were on something - perhaps Mike Douglas - and he stopped and said, not judgmentally but observationly, "They're doing Louis Prima & Keely Smith."
@thecatatemyhomework She looks like the kind of woman who sings depressing songs while Louis is all about as he puts it, "Keep on smiling and the whole world will smile with you".
My mother and her girlfriend took me to see Prima & Smith when I was 10 at Radio City Music Hall around 1948. It was another interesting post-war day after years of black outs along the NJ coast and local guys who never returned home. It was another time and another world never to be repeated.
I met Louis Prima (at his golf course) and Keely Smith..went to her house with their former drummer Bobby Morris. I knew Sam Butera...played a lot of golf with him and drank Courvoisier many a night. I knew Rolly Dee, Jimmy Vincent and Morgan Thomas. Fun guys to hang out with.
Wife and I saw Keely Smith with Sam Butera & The Witnesses in Las Vegas in the early 90's (after Louis had passed away). Keely was very animated, Sammy and the band were great, and they played their trademark numbers and even took requests. Reminded me what a great legacy Louis Prima left. I do believe we'll meet again in some form where as the old gospel song goes "the soul of man never dies".
@@caroldevitt1156 because that is her job. she got paid to stand there duh. what do you think that she's some magic snake that gets charmed by music and has no self control?cmon 😆 🤣
A great shtick; Keely was the beautiful, unapproachable girl in high school that every boy was crazy about; Louis was the goofy, face-making kid that did everything he could to get her attention. At first, she can't stand him but by the end of the show, he wins her over.
SAaw Louis many times at te Sahara and the Sands in Vegas. Absolutely a first rate showman. He was the epitome of talent and charisma as well. No entertainer comes anywhere near his showmanship and talent today.
Louis is a very unique artist ... he is not that extremely well known but every extremely well-known artist from his time was trying to copy him, that is one of the things that make this man great! I love to listen to him every now and then ...it reminds me that people can be unique !!
You didn't have to be anything but be from NYC 50's & 60's, especially Brooklyn or Queens. This was our music and we lived for this on Friday & Saturday nights after a long hard work week.
true story: back in the very early 90's, my brother and I were in Las Vegas. I'm trying to remember which casino we were in one late afternoon/early eve. for some reason I'm thinking it was Harrah's or it could have been the Sands. I hear this beautiful voice in the distance and I walk around to get closer to it. I tell my brother it sounds like Keely Smith but it just couldn't be. And there she was. with maybe a 4 piece band....in this little nook or corner of the casino...and I was in awe. People walking by not paying much attention and I wanted to shout, "do you know who this is????!!!" Keely had one of the most beautiful voices I've had to my ears. It was a little sad to think this woman who still had this beautiful voice and it just didn't seem like many really appreciated it or her piece in the history of Las Vegas show rooms big headliners of the long-gone hay day. It was a nice moment for me for sure.
Nijmegen, the Netherlands in the early sixties. Buona Sera Signorina.Buona Sera was the song o the day. I remember dancing to this supper hit on top of the tables in a beer cellar somewhere under the St. Stevens Kerk. What a great time we had....
8-12-2020. They had raw talent and were pure professionals. No take 1, take 2, they got it right the first time, and the obvious fun they have doing it and their energy is infectious to the audience. Truly the golden years of entertainment ^^
Long after Louie had passed on, I saw and met Sam Butera with his later band, The Wildest. Saw them several times playing the casinos in Atlantic City. He was still a great entertainer, and could he blow that sax! He put on a great show, including many of Louie's great hits. That was a fun time. I miss them all.
I have always been an old soul, thanks to mafia 2 i get to discover this hidden gems. I have always wished my wedding theme is 1940' to 50s where music is still golden
These guys really knew how to bring it. What a great entertainer. Any bar that had had these guys today would be making a fortune off of my nightly bar tab.
I remember him from when I was a little girl. I remember that my mom had two sets of records (78 RPM’s) of Xavier Cougat and Al Jolson (I can’t even imagine what they would be worth today, had we kept them). I just turned 72.
Brilliant!! it brings back great memories..The parents vinyl LP's scattered all over the lounge floor..... No 'noise control' in those days...The word 'Manic' hadn't been discovered either!! Milk delivered to the letterbox in glass bottles..Paid for by plastic...Not the Eftpos type tho!! Ha ha. 8.2020. New Zealand. Wonderful!! You Tube...You never cease to deliver!!
Louis un artista superlativo indimenticabile ! insieme al Sax impareggiabile di Sam Butera.. and the Witnesses & With Keely .Tra i più grandi della storia della musica Jazz e POP. Unforgettable.
Sam Butera HE PLAYED WITH THE WITNESS' at the Tropicana in Vegas..Went to see him him as much as I could back in the 80's..Brought back the the days of Louie Prima...Great memories for me...
They have no sentiment for it. My family Is Italian. And I remember my relatives liking him a lot. So for people that put the thumbs down you have no Reason to like it, but I remember my family how much they liked him that's why I like Him, Memories. Italians were very popular on stage, At that time. He was like a Frank Sinatra to the Italians. He was an old school Italian. I don't like a lot of singers today, The American people are losing what it means to have Heart and soul.,. And mostly our heritage.
Yeah, that darn Russian Frank Sinatra got nothing' on an Italian like Louis Prima...oh, wait...and to the cucumber who said you must be Italian to appreciate Louis, statazit!
From my understanding, it was her stage persona was to be the "ying" of Louis' "yang", he's absurdly wild on stage, and she was to be his balance in nature, being perfectly stoic and classy. Unusual, but effective.
When you're smilin', when you're smilin' The whole world smiles with you When you're laughin', oh when you're laughin' The sun comes shinin' through But when you're cryin', you bring on the rain So stop that sighin', be happy again Keep on smilin', 'cause when you're smilin' The whole world smiles with you But when you're cryin', your bring on the rain So stop your sighin', be happy again Keep on smilin', 'cause when you're smilin', baby The whole world smiles with you
Attsamatta Sam, you can't play in Italian? There will never be another Louis Prima and the Witnesses. Great music, great entertainment. His exuberance was infectious.
