She has some nice memories from the good ole days....when the world was spinning at a slower pace...when there was no internet, cell phones, texting, and people actually spoke to each other, etc! Those times are sorely missed!
Mrs. Paula, another quick way to achieve a steamed bun. Is to wrap the bun in a paper towel and microwave it. You can even microwave the hot dog weiner in the bun and then it cooks and steams both fast! But I do like grilled or boiled hot dog weiners better!
You have that air fryer in the background. That is by far the best way to cook a hotdog. Dogs in for 4 minutes, they place them into the bun and put back in for 2 minutes. Perfect dog every time.
I'm a native southern Ohio/West Virginia girl and my favorite is a chili cheese, add a lil onion and then top with coleslaw! It's messy but all those flavors combining is amazing! I'm further north in Ohio now and if U say slaw dog around here you get all kinds of 'ewe yuck' responses. I just say hey that's what I thought until I tried it!
Chili cheese is sooo good! With ketchup and mustard!! I’ll easily eat it without ketchup and mustard too. I love sauerkraut, so I need to try that, too! A quick tip for anyone who wants to have a grilled hotdog without firing up the coals is to grill it on a George Foreman indoor grill! So easy and gives the char to the hotdog. 😁
That slaw looks just like mine.... You should try putting some Mango's (which I have tons of right now) or fresh diced peaches to the slaw...it really brings out the freshness of the slaw.
Good Morning Y'all...I have missed everyone. I'm so happy to hear Mrs. Paula's voice . I love slaw dogs they are so yummy. I fry mine in a skillet get them golden brown throw that mustard slaw on them and I go to town. 😋 Have a wonderful day Paula, Eddie,Teresa ❤️ love from Sweet Home Alabama 😘
Slaw is definitely our favorite. I have found the food processor makes the job so much easier. I put the cabbage and onion in and get it chopped up. Much less mess than grating the cabbage. Finally, I add mayo and sweet pickle relish for the best slaw ever. :)
Liz Miller I guess you forgot about Julia child who cut her hand on the TV show also Gordon Ramsay so if anyone was getting her a kind gesture to be careful there was a reason for that
I knew you were going to talk about Jimmy’s Hot Dog! Jimmy’s IS still open, thriving and tasting the same! Last time I went to Albany I drove from Savannah , stopped at Jimmy’s before I checked into the Hilton Garden Inn! You can’t eat 1, get several, to start!👍🏾😎
Yes, my mom is from Dawson. Whenever she goes home, we stop at Jimmy’s. Our family there talked us into trying the Hot Dog King once. Never again, we’ll stick to Jimmy’s.
I love putting onion, mustard. Tomatos, relish sweet or dill and cole slaw. Lol God Bless and stay safe. I love the all beef Pearl hot dogs they have in the north east but here in Wisconsin I eat the all beef ball park ones.
Boy oh boy! I made this slaw for the 4th of July and my wife and mother-in-law and I just went crazy for it! Keep giving us recipes Paula! Enjoy your program each day!
Honey, you are doing it the Howard Johnson's Restaurant way! The buns were always grilled in butter, along with the "frankfurters". That's what made them so good. I think Howard Johnsons himself would approve of the cole slaw. I know I do!
Great vid! Never thought about putting slaw on my dog, but I have had slaw on a (rare) roast beef sandwich. Delicious. Also, I can clearly remember coleslaw being a big deal in our home. Everyone loved mom's coleslaw. She prepped the cabbage mixture in a huge bowl & mixed up dressing & put in fridge for minimum of 2 hrs to let the flavors gel together. She made seasoning adjustments after it was all mixed together & had chilled for another hour.
What’s “Silly Salt??? I enjoy a Variety of Toppings ~ always changing it up. Just be sure it’s a Polish Sausage (like Costco’s) or ALL BEEF Weiner. I do LOVE the things….and I like the Buns Soft Fresh & unwarned. But I’ve had a Toasted Bun lots & that’s great too. When I make ‘em the Hot Dog is most important. I Boil them then roll them in a pan in some butter to get a bit of crunchy outter very spiced dog goin’; LOVE ‘em with Slaw. I love all slaws. Looks GREAT Paula. Thanks for gearing us up for the 4th! My German DAD had us eating Sour Kraut on Hot Dogs growing up. I like sweet Relish & Onions too. Chili Cheese? Bring it. 🥰😂 🌭 🌭 🌭
I LOVE a slaw dog! Although I like a hot dog in most all of their incarnations. 😊 This is probably my favorite, because my daddy taught me to eat them this way. He always told me they ordered slaw dogs at the Dairy Queen in his hometown of Elba, Alabama. Now I must eat one soon!
Sonic Drive-In had chili cheese dogs with slaw years ago and my husband and I loved them. I'm not sure why they don't have the slaw anymore. As far as toppings/condiments, I love mayonnaise on my hot dogs too. Not too long ago I peeled and cut up an apple and sauted it with a little bit of diced onion and a jar of store-bought sauerkraut that I drained and rinsed. It may sound odd, but the combination was actually really tasty.
Watching this I felt like I was a fly on the wall to Eddie and his Aint Paula having a bite of lunch. I kept imagining the conversation they had as lunch time approached. I remember my Grammy fixin’ up some lunch for us when I was a littlun. Someone else mentioned how lucky Eddie is to be served by Paula. He is indeed. The thing is, Paula, like my Grammy did , adds love to her dishes and that is the most important ingredient of all.
When I make my slaw for my hotdogs i add French dressing to it. I love a loaded dog which is chilli, cheese, slaw, ketchup, onion and a little mustard on mine
Any way I can get um!! LOVE A HOTDOG!! No onions but just about anything else. Like you, my favorite is mayo, tiny bit yellow mustard, slaw! Yum!! Will be toasting you in spirit on the 4th❤️Love you Paula, thank you for continuing your videos!!
I use my food processor too, but I just cut the cabbage into chunks and grind it up with the blade, I like a fine chop on my cabbage, and I use the Chic-fil-a recipe for my dressing. I was so sad when they discontinued their slaw but at least I can now make it at home, lol
I'd like to share: I gave up boiling hot dogs over 40 years ago. If you really want to use boiling water, use a steamer insert. Hot dogs and smoked sausage come out hot and they "pop" when you bite into them. Sometimes I'll wrap them in a bit of foil and let them stew in their juices in the oven if I happen to be needing to use the oven!
@@diannacashion2047 My son's new father -in-law introduced me to Sahlen's hotdogs on the grill and I was so amazed how good they were. I don't grill anymore but find them just as good under the broiler with a bit of char and indeed like that snap
I turned my German hubby on to the culinary delights of Slaw Dogs,He wasn't so sure at first but sprinkling some Texas Pete on top was the clincher. :)
Raised in NC, we would make BBQ slaw and always chili with our hotdogs . The BBQ slaw was chopped fine and then ketchup, mustard and vinegar was added. With a good chili, extra condiments were not needed except minced onions maybe. They were chili/slaw dogs to us from the mid- sixties on until now in my household___ years later. BTW boiling them to death doesn't enhance their flavor like mom did. If not grilled then I broil mine to get a bit of char on them
We liked them dressed just like a regular hamburger with freshly sliced onions, tomato and lettuce but for a few years now I have transformed the filling to caramelised onion and tomato relish instead of the fresh produce but still adding the fresh lettuce, and yes Paula, I love the mayo and mustard combo - simply excellent!
We have always cooked our dogs, added the hotdog to the buns and put it back in the hotdog bun bag. It kinda steams the buns that way. Just not for very very long or it’ll over steam. My Coleslaw I put in my food processor to get it finely chopped before adding my wet ingredients. Cabbage, carrots, Mayo, a tiny bit of cayenne pepper, some sugar or Splenda, and salt and pepper. I leave onion out but chop up onion for those that like it to add on their own.
Yummy on the cole slaw! My mom made a similar one but added chopped green onion to the mix. Thank you, Paula! Oh, and she'd steam HER buns, too! Loved 'em!
I like ketchup and onions (and a wee bit of mustard) on my dog (poor puppy! 😉). As far as chili dogs go, it's with cheese and onions! Now I'm hungry! They're the breakfast of champions!
We eat our “all the way” here in North Carolina. Mustard ( I sub Mayo ) chili, slaw and onions. The chili is more of a sauce. I just water it town a little to make it flow over the hotdogs evenly. Been making my Mamaws chili for years! ( chili no beans, of course )
A former Davidson County resident, yes, all the way......brought my new daughter-in-law into the hotdog world of eating, NC style. She was immediately hooked , and indeed no beans in the chili.
I remember years ago being in Tennessee have a bbq pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on it. I don't eat pork now but it was good I'm going to have to try coleslaw on a hot dog. Looks good.
Paula, I like butter and Mayo on my dog! Sometimes cheddar cheese, tomatoes mustard and relish. If I’m by myself at home it’s just butter and Mayo.sometimes I split them and fry them and eat them on white bread! I like the top split buns. I also add crushed pineapple to my slaw…not if it’s going on a dog!
In Panama City Florida the tally ho Drive-In had the best slow dogs. I think they're still there as they were in 1956 1958. Love those little dogs and when I go back I still go and get one.
Paula I’m from the U.K. love you on you tube. I’ve been very poorly and it keeps me going. I love coleslaw with grated carrot and a little saracha in the dressing. It’s fab. With a fresh beetroot sandwich and coleslaw with white pepper and salt on the beetroot on white crusty bread and propper butter . Yummy
Ironic...from one of your cookbooks yesterday i made Nancy's coleslaw for hot dogs today 😋 and there's no better way to cook a hot dog than in water ( unless on your smokeless grill ! )
Try broiling them but rotate and keep an eye on the oven. I cut slits in the casings and let them char a bit. The flavor depends on the quality of hot dogs you use. My mom used to boil them , but mine are better by far. She did steam the buns, which I do now.
Hello Paula Deen I used to watch you on television. When you left , I was sad. But now I can watch you on you tube. Rushen,Trishen and Suminthra Oojugir Kwa Zulu Natal South Africa
I canned some good sweet pickle relish last year that’s really good on a hot dog. I like coleslaw on a bbq pulled pork sandwich but not on a hotdog. My favorite is chili, cheese, and onions.
I make my mother in laws slaw and it is so good! She uses the slaw mix, diced tomatoes, diced dill pickles, diced sweet onion, mayo, pickle juice, salt and pepper. DELISH
Never heard of it until I moved to Highpoint NC…could not believe it and I hated it! But I grew to love them and slaw burgers! Yum! So different! Love ya Ms. Paula!
Canned sauerkraut is for the birds! The fresh pack kraut in the produce section (plastic bag) is SO much better! I sear some fresh shredded cabbage in butter, add a little celery salt, some caraway seeds, & the bag of fresh kraut. It is divine! It will change your mind.
I had always heard & read about the American hotdog. So when I got to NYC & we saw a man on the street with his cart selling them, we just had to have one. I can still remember how good that first bite tasted. It goes without saying, that was not the last hotdog we had, made by a man with a cart on the street. YUM.
You mentioned kraut and I started droolin like Homer. I love hot dogs anyway I can get them, mayo, mustard with relish, sweet or dill, it has to be the right chili and of course coleslaw.
A must, the Chicago Hot Dog! Unimaginable & the best I’ve ever tasted. Secret is neon green sweet relish contrasted by the hot peppers & a mirad of onions, mustards etc.
We had HOT SLAW hot dogs and hot slaw on BBQ sandwiches. As well the best ever ... it was local at an old burger chef that was bought and kept a lot of the chefs recipes but had the hot dogs and BBQ with hot slaw wow best I’ve had in all my travels ... 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️💯
Love the idea of the buttery toasted bun.😍 We make a pineapple/jalapeño cream cheese dog that's delicious. I hope you'll try it. The recipe is on our channel on the 3 All Star Hotdogs video.
I like to heat my hot dogs in a skillet--start with just a little water in the pan, which will steam and plump them up (but not take the flavor out). Then when the water evaporates, the dogs will brown a little and I just keep rolling them over until they get as brown as I like. I also like sauerkraut on my dog with mustard!
Now I am with you 100% on the Dairy Queen slaw dog! That's the only place I will eat a hot dog when I go out to eat. Now you can find the split buns like DQ uses, I usually get mine at Walmart, a couple local grocers have them as well.
Might have to try this. I do like coleslaw but never had it on a hot dog before. Usually up here in Wisconsin we just stick to the ketchup, mustard, sweet relish and kraut.
Thank you for all your time and care you put into making your videos. We are living in a time of no peace, division, calling wrong right, and right wrong. The only way to true peace is through Jesus Christ. Soon he will take his own (those who are born-again, and trusting in Him) to heaven where it will be peaceful, no sin, no murder, no cancer, no divorce. We will not ever have to worry about paying bills, feeding our family, or fear of being harmed or a loved-one being harmed. Jesus paid it all and he will be taking care of all the things that are heavy on our shoulders. In Mark 16:15 he commands us too "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature". Keep in mind no one is promised tomorrow, or even an hour from now. Proverbs 27:1 Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Please call upon Jesus today.
On our hotdogs, we put mustard, chili, onions, and then slaw. Our slaw was made with cabbage that we grated, salad cubes, Mayonaise, salt, and pepper. HAPPY 4th of JULY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love all your recipes, I have made a few and people love them. Ms Paula, please show me how to make a Lane cake, thank you. Also, how do I keep my house seasoning from clamping. I live in Houston, Texas. The humidity is so high right now; im afraid it’s going to ruin. I will make a smaller amount next time, thank you, you cheer me up and educate me too, thank you!
Omigosh!😀now I'm hungry for cole slaw. I have some hot dogs and I have some cabbage so guess what I'm making for supper! This reminds me when I was a kid there was a drive in restaurant that had a burger with Cole slaw on it and that's what I always ordered. Never occured to me it would be good on a hot dog👍
Tasted my very 1st slaw dog in Albany, GA back in 1995. I didn't live there long so I don't remember the name of the place where I bought it. Wonder if it was Jimmy's. All I remember is. that it was delicious!
🤩I learned from a dear friend long ago simmer my hot dogs in water just covering the hot dogs with 1 cube beef bouillon and a couple of bay leaves for about 30 mins...🤗👍
❤Great Paula! That's how my mom always liked hers, and when I would host the holiday event for the 4th. That's one of the courses we would have. What is your Best German Chocolate cake recipe?
As a teenager we would get ours at dairy queen in Kentucky, but they made them with chili, slaw and onions. When we moved out west to Oregon no one here new what they were. I ordered one here at dairy queen and they just looked at me like I was crazy.
