What's your favorite dump cake recipe?

I have been making this for years. Don’t drain the pineapple juice! It adds to the flavor and doesn’t change the consistency of the filing. Instead of slicing butter on top, I melt one stick of butter and mix it with the dry cake mix. It makes a crumble and I simply use my fingers to spread the crumble over the top. This allows for the butter to be more evenly mixed with the dry cake mix. This is a great recipe to make for a quick dessert that looks like you’ve worked for hours on it. Keep the cake mix and canned fruit on hand in your pantry always for a last-minute go to dessert. Quick, easy, and tastes delicious!

When my Grandma Dot/Micro Dot as we called her, passed away…..All I got from her estate was a shipped box of broken glass ware, photos, letters, and her hand written recipes….That’s what I asked for….The things no one else wanted….But I did. They didn’t wrap the glassware…just threw it in that box….I don’t care it was glass…. I get a laugh and a precious memory of my Sweet Micro Dot every time I make one of her hand written stained paper recipes….. They have Her Things…I have Her.💜💜💜

I make this with the pineapple juice included. It makes for a delicious moist texture topping and I also put pecan pieces all over top of mine. I pour the melted butter over the top before adding the pecans. One of the best desserts you'll eat.

I make this often for my husband and his coworkers (at their request). What I do differently is I don't drain the pineapple, and shredded coconut and chopped walnuts to the top. Definitely an easy dessert that is much loved. 🍍🍒🥥

One of my family’s faves. I double the cherry pie filling and I don’t drain the pineapple sometimes 2 sticks of butter. So easy and people think it’s hard to make

My Sister only one I had left just passed away in May 25th, 2022. She loved you Paula had your cookware, and the recipes she used alot of yours. She was such a Great cook and I'll always miss her. Double the cherry pie filling and use chocolate cake mix mmmmmm, also I use 2 big cans of peaches and make it the same and I also put brown sugar on top the combinations are endless.

My Auntie Jean, my Mama’s best friend taught us to make this as well. But she had us leave the pineapple juice in. Then she had us put chopped pecans on top of the cake mix. Then follow with the pieces of butter like you. It’s definitely a family favorite for any holiday.

If you freeze the butter then take box grater and grate it all over the top then you can get it real even.

I've never heard of draining the pineapple--it's such a shame to waste it. Even if I didn't use it in the cake, I would drink it!

My recipe calls to melt the butter & pour over top of cake mix. Then add 1 cup of coconut and 1 cup of pecans. Pineapple is not drained.🍒🍍💕

I don't know how big the rock is that I've been living under, but in six decades (+) I have never heard of a dump cake. I love cherries and pineapple. I have a random box of devil's food cake and some frozen blackberries. The wheels are turning.😋

I use the Butter-Yellow cake mix and grate 2 frozen sticks of butter over the top... so good!

I screamed when she poured the pineapple juice down the drain.

I love dump cakes! The best one I've made so far is with apple pie filling and butter pecan cake mix. Delish!

About 57 years ago I had my first cherry pineapple dump cake from a stepmother. I never had the recipe but I’m so glad I found it. Thank you for posting it. I’m going to make one for my daughter-in-law today for Mother’s Day.!

I wonder if after the butter is frozen you could grate it on and it would cover every part more easily. Looks delicious and so many ways and combos

I was thinking of making pinneapple-upside down cake, but this recipe might be it!👍😍

I remember the first time i ever had this. 1980……Memorial Baptist Church in Murray Ky invited college students for a potluck. My soroity sisters and i went and decimated the cherry/pineapple dump cake. Best thing Id ever eaten. 37 years later….it is my adult childrens ( and my) favorite dessert.

Some people I know who like to make dump cakes like this one melt the butter and drizzle it on top before baking. My sister-in-law used to make dump cake. They really are a quick and easy way to make a nice dessert that everyone loves.

This has always been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. I always left the pineapple juice in and topped with chopped walnuts. Definitely brings back memories.

This looks good. I've done this with apple pie filling and some cinnamon.

I make the dump cake differently. Put 1 can Crushed Pineapple including the juice in the bottom of a 9 X 12 baking pan. Spread it as evenly as possible. Use 2 cans of Cherry Pie Filling on top of the pineapple.Spread it evenly over the Pineapple. Dump the dry contents of a Yellow Cake Mix over the Cherry Pie Filling, and level it out so it covers everything. Take 2 sticks of Cold Butter and cut them into pats and place them on top of the cake mix. Bake at 350°F until golden brown. + or - 60 minutes. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack for 1 hour before cutting. I've had this recipe since the 1970's and it's the best!

I cut up pieces of the cold butter and toss it in my food processor with the cake mix. Blends perfect so it's all even.

I like to freeze my butter for a couple of hours then grate it into the cake mix. Stir it in well then spread it out on the fruit. for special occasions I'll add some cream cheese along with the butter. Freeze it and grate it just like you do with the butter. You could leave the butter out but it's butter and we all know butter makes it better. Gotta say I love watching Miss Paula cook. Reminds me of the way my mom cooked.

Paula, I’m from Texas and we make this same dump cake with the addition of chopped pecans on top of the fruit…you should try it that way since you love nuts so much! Delish!!!

Been making this all my life but: I use TWO cans cherries, add one can of pineapple tid bits to the crushed pineapple and throw some sliced almonds on top :)

I’ve made this one for years. It’s also good with some chopped pecans on top. I really like this made with blueberry pie filling as well. We always have it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This is a good one to take to a potluck..

I make a cherry pineapple dumb cake. I don't drain the pineapple. Dump cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple in a 9x13, sprinkle with coconut, spread cake mix on top, sprinkle with chopped pecans, then pour melted butter over the top, bake 350 for 35 to 45 minutes. Eat warm or at room temp. Enjoy

I have been making this cake since I was in my early 20’s back into the mid 1970s. I always added pecans on the top as well as always cut the butter and placed on top. It is great with ice cream.

Paula Deen, i believe we are contemporaries & I've eaten this cake since I was a child. One of my aunts made it for a family union & the rest is family history! At some point someone added coconut to it too! TY for the video & sharing this great recipe with those who have never enjoyed it😉😃🤗

Paula try this!!! That recipe is somewhat similar to what I make for my husband of almost 23 years. He loves it so much and the rest of my family love it, especially during the hot summer months. I got my recipe from a dear friend as a wedding gift from a handmade book with many great recipes from her family for me to try. Best gift ever!!!! Lol. My pineapple recipe was & is titled, "Better Than Sex Cake". Yes, you read right, lol. I don't know why, but it is. I was embarrassed at first, haha! Mine calls for: 1 Moist Duncan Hines butter or yellow cake mix (baked first) then poke holes with toothpick all over. Take 1 can of Dole crushed pineapple( no draining) & 1 cup of sugar boiled together, dissolving all sugar Pour pineapple mixture over top of cake making sure to even out on top of cake Let cake cool & cover Then get 1 large box of instant vanilla pudding( mix & put in fridge until it sets) After vanilla pudding has set and chilled, then pour onto top of cake, even out pudding Last step, use a large container of cool whip to spread over the entire cake This will melt in your mouth & cool you off at the same time!! My family have been making this as well. The original recipe for this, using the butter not melted was originally on the Jiffy Cake Mix boxes, I think in the 60's. At least that is when I remember making and eating it with Grandma. It's great! Better when cooled off, the top gets crunchy 💖

My mom used to make this same thing. She got the recipe back in the 80s. The only difference was she added pecans to it, and sometimes coconut and didn't drain the pineapple. It was really popular in the 80s & 90s. So easy to throw together and really good.

Easy simple dessert... I've made it and added shredded coconut flakes. Delish. I place a dish towel under my wobbly cutting board.... Darn thing wants to dance a jig as I cut veggies....butter...etc..😅😅

Ooohhh, I bet this would be even better with the pineapple cake mix on top instead of yellow cake mix.

I make a dump cake with peaches yellow cake mix and butter. I put the peaches in the bottom of the pan top it with the cake mix and. It with butter and then bake it

I've used melted butter in the past but it always seemed to pool. Using sliced butter is a much better idea! Thanks for the freezer tip also.
