Thank you for the great videos. I am spying to see how you tidied up the top of the LS1, my VY2 ute needs some love in this area. Keep up the great work.
All you need to do is remove the 2 heater barbs , vice grips will get the job done, after removing the barbs you simply tap the small hole with a 3/8 NPT (or BSP) and tap the larger hole with a 1/2 NPT (or BSP) tap' you don't even need to drill the holes out. Its tempting to use aluminum bungs however they pickup easily and potentially ruin the pump. Now remove the thermostat , you need to carefully drill 2 x 10 mm holes in the 1 O'clock position ( there's not much room), check carefully that your drilling into the water passage and not into fresh air , this will bypass the heater circuit in the same way your external hose arrangement does without the external rubber hose . good luck
I have to say, great results with car modifications isn't all about expensive workmanship paying for expensive equipment. It's the knowledge and the knack for it, that is a BRILLIANT job, in a home workshop.. you can't buy alot of what you just used. Cheers, hope I get more notifications of this build to watch.
I'm picking up what you are putting down when it comes to Australia Post, it's so much quicker to get stuff out of the US than from here and ironically the stuff from overseas gets delivered by AP! Your VN is turning out to be a super clean and a very well sorted example, time and money and effort pays off!
Definitely need to pick up one of those lights that goes on the go pro, really helps for filming in darker places like in the engine bay or under the car
Looks like your definitely going down the rabbit hole , braided line everywhere, fittings galore, billet coil pack mounts, what next 🤣 Don't worry I did the same and it blew my car back another year 🤦♂️ ended up pulling a lot back out and simplying everything as $ were just adding up too much pushing it back further n further ,I'm not far off first start up now too 👌 just gotta remake alternator harness ,get a new balancer, fill it with fluids and it's good to go 👌 Then I can concentrate on doing the exhaust, overhaul all the bushes, upgrade/overhaul brakes, tune and It'll be ready for rego ,probably another 6 months yet before it's back on the road though 🙄 18 months and counting so far 🤣
Also oz post is horrendous 🙄🤣 I can order stuff from QLD and have it in 2 3 days, order from within Victoria it takes 3 4 6 weeks to travel from an hr away , my thermo fan n shroud was ordered from hoppers crossing, it took a month to get to werribee 🤦♂️🤣 it's literally a 10 min trip...
So close to the first start up I can almost most taste it!!! haha great to see another vid with a bunch of little tips. Catch can once again looks killer, congrats on the new camera upgrade, see u next week brother.
Hey mate love the vids! May have missed the video but couldn’t find it, have you smoothed un-needed posts/threads on the valve covers? Also which brand is the coil bracket from? Looks heaps neater… cheers!
Holden added powers steering cooler from late series 1 VY V8s - because of ongoing system failures on lots of steering input. This would still be a problem on an electric pump system? And from what I have seen high pressure side should be rated at something like 4000 PSI?
Hey mate, how did you get around putting the reverse switch on the ratchet shifter? Just putting the same set up in my vp and need an idea so I can still have reverse lights etc 👍
Hey Chris, is your high pressure power steering hose the correct specifically rated hose? They run super high pressure and regular braided hose will fail pretty quickly if not. Looking tidy though bud.
I was thinking the same, the power steering specific stuff usually has a fabric braid, raceworks didn't make that series hose when I did mine and speedflow was the only one that did a special power steering series. 490 series 👍
@@MindieJ I used the 200 series Teflon hose and it leaked and had issues, go the 490 series speedflow power steering specific stuff, cost a bit more but at least you know it's done properly 👍
Be careful using that style an fittings and hose for your high pressure line, I’ve seen them burst off as they don’t lock the hose in well enough, power steering goes under some serious pressure at some points, speed flow 490 series is specifically made for power steering
Hey mate awesome job on the VN all those hours and hours of hard work 😓 paying off. When you reloaded the coils to LS1 does the wiring need any mods to fit or did it plug in thanks mate legend.👍👍👌👌
@@MindieJ they are a hydraulic rubber hose that are also crimped onto hard lines, they withstand heaps of pressure where as the rubber braid can't handle the pressure as well
Don’t leave your power steer hose running between the chassis and the sway bar unless you want it to cut the line and drop oil under your tyres when the suspension is doing its thing. It’d be a shame to scratch the car as a result, you’ve put a lot of time in getting this back on the road.
@@MindieJ I’d be putting a camera under there and checking it on the road. When that suspension hits a dip in the road and the suspension begins to compress I think you will see otherwise.
