A few years ago I was interested in astral projecting, just mainly for purposes just to make sure my friends were alright. I looked it up and with so many people claiming it was real (and search engines also claiming that same thing), it was hard to refute it in my brain. One of the first videos I watched on the topic claimed things that you described in the video - and it scared me away from good. Since then, I haven't even dabbled or monitored the community as I didn't find the idea enjoyable and I thought it had fizzled out. It's fascinating how so many people have similar experiences and all come up with different reasons for what they experienced. I find the astral projection and reality shifting communities very similar in that nature due to the "symptoms" and both phenomenons being, essentially, dreams with misunderstandings about the nature of them (as far as we can tell and scientifically prove). Very interesting video and though I've never really been interested in astral projecting, it was still a great watch! I hope that the video doesn't have backlash on it or a dislike army!

I once had an obe from laying down and intensely focussing on nothingness. In less than a minute I experienced rising out of my body to the ceiling, rolling in mid air towards my body, and falling down fast to my body and then I was back in my body. I dont know what it was exactly, but it was nothing like my lucid dreams. I was definately not asleep in anyway I have felt before. The whole thing lasted less than a minute and felt very strange. I havent been able to repeat this since. The closest thing I have experienced that is similar to this feeling is the floaty disembodiment I get from a long meditation session, where my being kinds turns into a ball of foggy glowing light stuff.

Could have been. That was a long time ago, maybe 15 yrs now. I still think about it, since it was profound for me. I am not saying it wasn't a lucid dream, but it was a special experience for me. There was a strange feeling to it based on the rapid timescale of events. I occasionally try to replicate the experience, but have not been able to yet. I imagine the circumstance was a rare set up, and wish I had taken note of it at the time. One for the books.

No, sorry but that's a nonsensical statement that betrays your ignorance. Your comment is a perfect example of "ignoring empirical reality." The difference between reality and belief is substantiated by something we call "evidence." There is no scientific evidence supporting the idea of astral projection, and substantial evidence refuting it. So it should be classified as an "unfounded belief" or "scientific ignorance." However, there is overwhelming evidence showing that consciousness is a product of brain activity. The brain's ability to create convincing hallucinatory experiences is well-documented and understood within modern science and medicine. This makes it a fact, not a belief. It's so well documented that in a surgical setting I could quite literally apply a small electric current to your brain and create a convincing hallucinatory experience of leaving the body, an old memory, a recurring nightmare and many other things. Being unaware of or disregarding scientific principles and the process of verification is not something to shout about. Understanding how ideas are tested and validated is the bare minimum for distinguishing between reality and unfounded or silly beliefs..

In a word: Interpretation. I once knew someone who was very deeply into Robert Monroe/Out Of Body Experiences. They just couldn't conceive (or simply _wouldn't_ believe) that mistaken interpretations and preconceptions could easily account for all the phenomena that the OOBE community described -- or that a lot of their experience was a variety of self-fulfilling prophecy. They were utterly committed to the idea that OOBE explorers like Monroe were completely scientific and objective, rather than replicating premature and entirely subjective conclusions.

I have extremely vivid Daydreams that feel sometimes very real and like I am there and experiencing a world inside of myself. But I am not asleep while it’s happening, I’m in a meditative trance, I am Dissociated from my body. But I would like to turn my Daydreams into Lucid dreams. I also want to know WHY daydreams can feel similar to lucid dream sometimes if I am Not asleep. But it scratches a similar itch for me. I wonder What makes daydreams different from regular dreams and from lucid dreams. If I do a nose pinch test inside a daydream it implies I am dreaming, but I still feel my body in my bed, I can snap out of the meditative trance. I don’t like the term Astral projection or reality shifting anymore so I call my experiences Lucid Daydreams or Vivid Daydreams. But I want to turn those into actual lucid dreams somehow. I have an extremely intricate inner world I go to in these day dreams for about 30 minutes than I snap myself out of it and ground myself back in my body.

I think now is an appropriate time to ask. What do death experiences tell us about lucid dreaming? I am interested in this series called I survived beyond and back. I think it's safe to assume when someone drowning can't get comfortable to lucid dream. Same with getting run over by a truck and having your rib cage crushed and your breathing stops where is the becoming lucid from sleep? I think it may be as you say it's a different dream but there is no sleep involved what is this then?
@LucidDreamPortal
@LucidDreamPortal 3 месяца назад
I think it's risky to make any assumptions about what the brain does under extreme stress, as each individual case may instigate an entirely different state (a stroke, for example, would likely cause a very different state to extreme head trauma or suffocation). I think the safest word to use for such psychological events, at least from a scientific perspective, is "hallucination". But that's a broad word. Of course, there's a lot to the brain and the universe that we don't know, but I think it's better to err on the side of caution and assume psychology rather than the paranormal. That said, all experiences are mental models, so one's entire life is a form of hallucination - the question is simply: does the hallucination match sensory input or not?

@LucidDreamPortal
@LucidDreamPortal 3 месяца назад
There's never been a verified account of this, there's lots of second hand stories published in books with agendas, but not a shred of scientific evidence. Equally, just because someone is physically immobile, doesn't mean they're senses don't work and they can't infer what's happening based on what they hear, smell etc. and then it's interpreted by their dreaming mind. I've had exactly this experience when there was a fire in my room and my dreaming mind incorporated the smell of it into the dream.

@@LucidDreamPortal But what about that tunnel and the white light? Maybe there is a collective dream that we all dream. Castaneda mentioned "connection points" - which are identical in reality and in a dream, through which one can see in a dream what is happening in reality, so maybe this is how people see what someone in tsarnost is doing in another place. He also mentioned that this reality was projected from the same point, so we all have the same vision of the real world, so maybe we all dream the same collective dream about that tunnel.

I believe this is similar to what twins can experience, and also my mother. Sometimes we pick up on things, like a sudden urge to check in on someone, to find out something happened or was about to happen to them. Sometimes these synchronicities seem to be too frequent and too magnificent to be considered a mere coincidence. I do believe there is something there. And in that sense I think that it is certainly possible to pick up on something in our dreams that is going on in real life with someone we are very attuned to. I love science and rationality, but I won't let it take away from the awe and mystery of metaphysics/things we can not confirm or know with science, such as death and the soul and spirit. These mysteries give me a sense of meaning in life. Also, taking dreams as serious messages and meanings can be spiritually helpful.

I can totally get behind the idea that there is a difference of belief... But I can't say I can agree that one is accurate or inaccurate. Difference of a belief makes way more sense. From a materialistic perspective, one is accurate and one is inaccurate. From an idealistic perspective, both are accurate. From an agnostic perspective, Eh, who knows?
@LucidDreamPortal
@LucidDreamPortal 2 месяца назад
With the greatest respect and appreciation of your comment, here's a simple example to demonstrate the flaw in your logic: I believe you are actually a potato. By your argument, an idealist would have to consider my belief to be as genuine as observable reality (you not being a potato). Beliefs must be grounded in observable facts to be rational. Accepting all beliefs as equally valid leads to absurd conclusions. For example, believing someone is a potato is clearly false based on biology. Astral Projection, similarly, lacks empirical evidence and absolutely contradicts our understanding of physics and biology. It requires many irrational steps, making it even more absurd than my potato example. It's simply silly to discount facts to be "open" to beliefs that contradict reality. Beliefs need to be evaluated against observable reality to be credible. As for agnosticism: Are you agnostic about your bank balance? Or do you ground your beliefs regarding that on what is observable and real? And surely the nature of consciousness and how the mind operates is somewhat more important than money?

@@bojanrakic9064100% with you on this, he doesn’t actually know what he’s talking about when it comes to AP, through lucid dreaming is only one way to achieve it, the other way is the traditional path in which you are awake and conscious, which has virtually nothing to do with sleep or lucid dreaming other than those states of consciousness being another plane similar to the astral, I speak from over a decade of experience (have been APing since I was 6 long before I knew what it was), the problem this person and many others have is they base/entrust their beliefs and ideas of APing in science, which is a major mistake as science only tells us what we already know or think we know, not counting for all that is unknown to modern society or science, which is quite bias to say the least, but the main problem with this is he speaks from a position of ignorance and inexperience, to my knowledge he’s never experienced astral projection therefore everything he states about it must be taken with a massive grain of salt (all love to him but he’s 100% wrong about what he says relating to AP)

One is proven and the other is not. Yet both use the same techniques to achieve a trance or lucidity. Both are dreams yet one is misunderstanding their current state. So one would almost assume both could be proven in some form to be true. So I guess my question is "Are there any health benefits to learning lucid dreaming?" Is there anything scientifically proven as a benefit to learning lucid dreaming? If not, the whole thing seems to be rather silly. What is the purpose of learning lucid dreaming other than it's fun? I'm just kind of lost as if both are just in your mind what's the point?

I would think that if OBEs were what proponents claim they are, and so many people claim to have them, that some major, concrete supporting evidence wouldn’t be hard to come by. You know: the classic “obtained information that they otherwise could not have obtained” thing. Sure, people make claims of this, but is anyone doing such experiments under controlled, documented conditions? It shouldn’t be a problem to do so. And if the claim is that they are traveling to another realm, not “this reality”, then how could that be distinguishable from a lucid dream? I would love to have solid evidence of such a phenomenon if it was true, and would love for it to be true, but I just can’t be convinced of such a dramatic claim by anecdotes and claims of it being “different“. So if someone has an argument or information that they think would convince a skeptic, please present it, and we’ll see.

I agree with what you are saying. I have had a few obe experiences, but I think they are basically identical to lucid dreams in most ways. Maybe context of the experience is different. For me, it has felt a bit different than a dream, but still seems to be the same neural pathway, or very similar. I do think there are differences, but not necessarily a fundamentally different thing happening. I wouldnt be so quick to say there isnt more than just lucid dreaming though. There may be other ways to access dreamlike mental states, similar to lucid dreams, but not entirely the same. Whether or not there is astral projection, I cant say as I dont have enough data/info to really know for certain. The mind is a miraculous thing.

@LucidDreamPortal
@LucidDreamPortal 2 месяца назад
Lucid dreaming has never been "disregarded by science." The principles of lucid dreaming require no leaps of logic regarding physics or biology. We've always known that the mind can dream, and conscious awareness is self-evident. The combination of these two fits within our established understanding of reality. The main challenge was finding a way to prove it, which has since been achieved through various studies and experiments demonstrating the phenomenon. Astral projection, on the other hand, contradicts everything we know about reality, physics, biology, and consciousness. It requires us to deny observable reality. Extensive testing with reasonable experimental designs has consistently shown zero evidence supporting astral projection. Equally, there are much simpler and straightforward explanations which can and have been proven to exist (halluciations, conscious dreams without the knowledge one is dreaming etc.), so choosing to believe the explanation that entirely contradicts reality is absurd. Look up Occam's Razor. Believing in astral projection, despite the lack of evidence, suggests a significant misunderstanding or disregard for scientific principles. Would you blatantly disregard me if I told you I was your mother? Yes. Why? Because it is clearly and obviously nonsensical and impossible. Astral projection is the equivalent for anyone with a basic science education. If someone wants to believe nonsense, thats up to them, but the rest of us absolutely have a right to point out how absurd such beliefs are. I find it weird that anyone living in the modern age, with every opportunity to research and educate themselves is available in their pocket, would choose not to do so.
