Offseason workout videos are a yearly tradition around the NBA but Luka Doncic takes it to another level. This is a look at why people should not trust what we’re seeing with the Mavericks superstar and what it means for next season.
I'm a diehard fan of Exum's team last year (he played in Serbia). He had an amazing season with the best coach outside of NBA (9 times Euroleague champion). Dante just might be the biggest surprise of the season if he manages to stay healthy... Watch his highlights from this season.
@@markovulkan2223 Ko kaze da navijam za zvezdu? Ne sme covek ni da se nasali na onakav rvacki potez jabuselea, koji i ne treba da igra u istoj ligi kao Exum, a da se ne uvredi neki 0iq navijac
I don’t understand? This man was playing 41 minutes+ for like the entire season, and people scold him for running out of fume towards the end??? Give the man a break this year, he had to carry so hard all the way until Kyrie came
What’s different now is that Luke is in a better state mentally. Now that he’s had time to get past all the stuff off the court. I would’ve gotten depressed and fell off, the season they were having.Bronson’s absence was definitely felt specially early on in the season. I think Luka Dončić has a better headspace now. Then he did.. I think that’s why it’s gonna be different.
@@ry_an. Of course he can. Mental health is one of the MOST IMPORTANT THINGS a pro need to have, it's not just jump higher and shoot balls. Having a stable mental state is what make's people champions. Do you think the Mamba mentality was Kobe thinking like a Snake? C'mon.
@@igorpontes9954 mental stability** Obviously to be at peak performance you have to be in a good mental state. But as a pro in the most prestigious basketball league how can you afford to let mksssing the playoffs make you depressed? MJ, probably the toughest mentality the league had ever seen, was depressed after his father died, retired. But it didn’t let him stop him. He came back better
@@igorpontes9954He didn’t say it’s not important, he said Luka needs to fix that shit because it’s his job. I think the Mavs’ problems are not Luka. The coach needs to figure out a way to get the most from the pieces they have. Kyrie is never a good thing for a team’s mental well being IMO but he’s what they had. Maybe Luka will never play well in a system and will just be a guy who gets his. Lots of players that way through history. It’s why it’s a team sport. Nowadays everyone thinks great individual players “deserve” to go to a team that has everything they need and they have no responsibility in making a team great. I don’t know, but I think there’s a lot of talent in the NBA top to bottom. If your team is shit you are part of it./rant
@@ry_an. We aren't talking about missing the playoffs. It's about his familial drama which probably did affect him. It was also the case with Kobe when he had to deal with serious things outside the court.
Also last year was the first time that Luka got embarrassed and underachieved in the NBA. I think with a killer like him that experience will make the transformation real and lasting this time.
@@YeshuaspupilPutting up 32/9/8 on 60+ TS% is getting embarrassed & underachieving? Lol you guys forget it’s a TEAM game. He was great individually, the team was hot garbage outside of him & Kyrie.
Great video! I really had no idea what the Mavs were doing and now I'm excited for their next season. I hope Luka gets shredded. As a personal trainer, it pains me to see pro athletes that aren't in peak condition.
Love your content Casey, I didn't really dig your style at first but I'm glad I've seen your 'come up' video, it put things into perspective! That Crazy Hyped American style of telling things has grown on me, much love
I like his content more than his presentation. I clicked on his video and the immediate yelling out me off. Stayed for the content and he seems cool. Just don't like the immediate overhypedness
Last years first half is up there with the all time greats for seasons played. If he can maintain that level of play for an entire season it's game over.
Being "skinny" is not always that effective in the NBA, at least for SF and up. Luka could drop 20lbs and end up being stopped dead in the lane as he meanders through. Carmelo, for example, attained this type of body profile a few times but it effectively limited his game to a spot up shooter as he couldn't really bully on the block anymore. Going the other direction, Tracy McGrady was middle of the road (exciting sure, but stats weren't really there) for years when he was too light for the NBA (215lb on a heavy day), but absolutely decimated the NBA when he jumped to 235lb+. There's aesthetically fit, and there's fit, and Luka has been for the most part is usually in the latter category regardless of the haters. He could definitely benefit from resetting the recent mileage on his body, and being a little lighter on his feet, but you don't necessarily need to lose weight to do that.
Well said. Now, the perfect solution would be for Luka to build enough muscle to weight what he currently does, but me in shape instead of a bit tubby. But, that would take a few years of hard dedication in the gym. And it could mess with his shooting ability if he isn't careful. Weight training can throw off you're shooting touch and mechanics if you aren't extremely particular and strategic about how you go about it.
@@Biggiiful yeah, it's a multi season commitment for sure...working against your body type and losing 10lb while gaining 5lb muscle etc is no easy thing, especially between the pace of off-season versus on. So many different players and so many different approaches too...I remember Tim Duncan didn't touch a basketball any off-season and just swam. Clyde Drexler mostly rode a bicycle. Stephon Marbury was a training fiend in the offseason, but always started each season super slow. Either way, I think main thing beyond any idea of perfection is just avoiding injury for Luka, we all just want these players out there doing their thing, almost for better or worse.
NBA season is long. Guys can come in great shape but when they get to half way through the season they just pretend playing games is gonna keep them in shape like Harden does. He allows himself to actually get out of shape DURING the season, possibly because he knows his season is always gonna end in May.
Mavs record is deceptive. They lost a lot of close games by 3 points or less. Also, at the end of the season they tanked on purpose by starting their bench players to get a better draft pick.
One thing people forget is that when luka and kyrie play together it's just the best offense in the league, the mavs problem was getting rid of all the defense for That, I think if they put good defense around these two this year they are strong contenders for the title. Sorry if something seems weird written, I'm Brazilian and I understand English but I'm not good with grammar so I used google translator
Luka can’t stay in shape But the problem is not his bad shape He dominates even with that going on The problem is the Mavs not surrounding him with suitable talents to his
Luka just needs cardio and endurance and he's chillin. Youre born with it or you arent with speed, but anybody can work their ass of to get endurance. He's tom brady. He just needs cardio endurance. Thats it.
Doesn't matter he still avg 32.4ppg 8.5rpg 8apg on 50%fg and brought a bad mavs team to the conference finals after beating the Nr.1 seed in the whole NBA and destroyed them single handedly. Americans care way to much about superficial things
@@OGFulir yes you are a casual, it's nearly impossible to win a chip with the team he had. Statistics are true and don't lie not like your subjective bullshit opinion. A casual would think chips determine your greatness when it's how you perform individually in a teamsport. If you are to dumb for standard statstics do some research on individual performance advaced stats where it's clear that he is a top 3 offensive player in the NBA and by far the best pg over the last 2 seasons. Made All-NBA 1st team 3 times in a row at least and was clearly better than curry last reg.season and post season and this reg. Season. I always wondered who are the low iq fans that are pushing ring vulture and here we found one.
@@OGFulir yes he is by far better than. Curry last reg. Season: higher ppg, apg, rpg, blkpg, stlpg, PIE, offensive rating, fg% with better defense, lower allowed ff% and can guard 1-3 better than curry who is overpowered if his opponent is over 6'4. Same for last post season and this reg. Season. The only thing curry is better at is higher scoring efficency. 60%ts Luka vs 64%ts curry this season. Last reg. Season it was 58%ts vs 60%ts so even closer
@@OGFulir yes they won the gsw won against the mavs last reg.season because they were the better team look up the stats, advanced stats Luka vs curry not even remotly close. It's a teamsport were about 10 player play per team, 1 player can't do it alone.
@@sensei_... I know, Curry is so overrated with his accomplishments. Doncic is by far the better player for sure. It's just that the numbers you cited don't get enough appreciation. For some reason it seems people only care about winning when determing who is better. It's weird. They should care about TS% without the context of usage, and also I agree Doncic doesn't get the credit for his D. The man is a lockdown defender with his lateral quickness of prime Tony Allen.
4:41 I don’t understand what this whole Kyrie thing is about. He’s a great player I still consider him one of the top 25 in the league today and he deserves the $42 million he’s making a year.
He went from saying the grizzlies will beat lakers and warriors even with all the injuries everyone had to saying grizz will miss the playoffs. Did he even watch a grizzlies game in his life before?
I love basketball, but there is no other sport in the world where players struggle with getting in top shape like Zion and Luka, I mean finally he's doing it but it shouldn't be this hard if you want to be a true professional
Luka doesn't need to get "skinny" he needs to get fit, he'll never be perfect shape but this season will show us a lot. REDACTED,! He should be a King, Fox, Luka & Sabonis=Championship
Kings are the Mavs unintentional benefactors. They didn’t draft Luka, they gave us Hardy for peanuts. Now we have Omax and Holmes for more said peanuts. Kinda like how Dallas hooks up the Knicks. Diff is Knicks fans act like they developed and found Brunson when in reality it was Cuban who signed him to a deal allowing him to be unrestricted. After the new CBA that will never happen again, teams can always match players they drafted. Cuban started a new rule !
Nah you posted this after he got married that’s just dirty😂😂 though I agree he needs to get in shape if he ever wants an MVP and teammates to come to the Mavs
Boy, Luka doesnt has to get skinny. He has to get his cardio up! Thats it. Eat healthy, stop smoking (most important part for me) and run the steps every day for 2 hours!. Is Jokic ripped like Giannis? Is he Shinny like Chet? He still weights 285 lbs and you can see no muscular definition.
Damn dude. Why did you say Luka is out of gas again in the middle of the season? His performance improves every late to post season. Also, him being what he is in that shape doesn't really change the fact that he is still dominant.
Luka Doncic is one awesome player. He is All-Star level no matter his physique. The fact that he's doing stuff in the offseason shows he still wants to be that way. This is not a Ben Simmons situation where the guy simply doesn't play, nor is it a Harden situation where he wanted to leave... Nikola Jokic will never be ripped, but still he plays so well. Would you consider him fooling us if he releases gym videos?
I think Luka was mad enough to miss the playoffs to take the conditioning more seriously and yeah Mavs finnaly did some moves that will hopefully let Luka rest more and have the strength to finnish games strong he looks as fit as he was at 19 i think this is the year and it is not like watching Ben simmons shooting 3s Luka started last season with 9 or 11 straight 30pt games but than mavs were indjured he had to carry them and go exhausted
I think the Mavs ruined their future for Kyrie which he will end up leaving. They were pretty solid before all the trades. They had a few guys who could help out with scoring. If Kyrie or Luka gets hurt it’s a wrap.
The grizzlies fall out the top 8 in the west after 2 full seasons in second place for the regular season? Idk about that take but I do know the grizzlies play pretty well without ja on the court. Something like 21-3 without him at one point. Pretty well. I’d rather him be on the court regardless of that but just thinking it would be hard for the grizzlies to slide that far.
How the hell all the grizz going to be not top 7 in the west when we have had 50 wins for 2 seasons in a row ???? And just traded 2 frp for an upgrade. AM I am a big fan of yours but so long as JA puts that tang away🔫🔫 I’m sure we’ll be fine in the west.
Luka is in the west and the weat is very close competive wise Also luka has no rim protector or good defenders When lwbron was in the cavs say what you want but he had really good defense around him with secent shooting. Luka will be a champ soon but needs one rim protector and one finney smith tupe player
Skinny and fit aren't mutually exclusive and being in shape doesn't guarantee you don't get tired in the playoffs. We've seen guys like Bron, Butler, Russ, and Giannis look gassed.
That was a better team as they still had Brunson. I would rather have Brunson on my team than Kyrie -- and if Cuban hadn't screwed up the re-signing they could have done it long before the Knicks stole Jalen. And Cuban didn't even try to match the NY offer when it was on the table .... and we now see that Brunson's contract was a bargain after his season in NY.
@@randygraham926Jalen (rightfully so) wanted to be the starter and star player for his own team. I would much rather have Kyrie, Dereck Lively, Omax and Grant Williams over Jalen Brunson, Dinwiddie (who I like) and DFS!!!
Mffl so don’t hate me but lately luka can remind me of AI sometimes with that “I done my part/we talking bout practice/don’t need to change my game” vibes. Hopefully he realizes now to improve on his defense etc. Hate to see him end career without a ring like AI and others
People don’t understand. It’s not whether certain players deserve much the amount of money they want to get or how much they are actually getting, it’s about the front office. They have a budget to spend on building a team to win a championship. A team shouldn’t spend no more than $20 mil a year on a player. If your starting 5 makes $20 mil a year, that’s $100 mil down the drain, how much money you have left to fill the bench with quality role players? I think that this sends a message, if you want to build a championship team, paying players so much money doesn’t guarantee a championship. It will hurt your chances of improving your team. Teams will have to be smart on their budget. This means we will see less players being overpaid. Superstars and all stars will have to take a paycut LIKE TOM BRADY, if it means it will allow your team more money to sign better players to improve the team.
Did tgey have to pay him that much? Could they have signed another role player if he takes 12-15 mil less? He wouldnt have been understanding? Could have offered incentive of backpayment if the won a chip during a three year stint.
With all the money they're making I don't see how they can't eat delicious meals that keeps you fit. Seems like just pure laziness or maybe he just wants to be out of Dallas.
