@@phabiorules That's because he was, Ed is pretty much a mini Balrog preteen in a buff body cause psycho power experimentation caused him and Falke to age rapidly. But in general, yeah artwork vs the in game models are often vastly different
Funny how Capcom was so optimistic about the character stories that they put 4 story slots per character but only used 1 per before the game ended and some are even so short.
There was no story. This was on of the many problems when this game was released, each character had his individual story, but besides Nash being alive, none of them made any impact or influence on the overall story arch of the series. They created some interesting characters, but to me SFV was a wasted opportunity... This game is the first SF that doesn't have its own boss character
i figured out what's making luke's arms look so fucked so.. if you're gonna make a character's forearms big like that, you need to also make them long and make his hands big (which Popeye's design does). Luke, on the other hand (ha), has forearms that are normal length (i think) and hands smaller than Ryu's, which means that his forearms taper pretty fast, and are only truly large near his elbows, which just looks fuckin' WEIRD.
Yeah, if they were gonna make his forearms disproportionally big, at the very least they should've given them a little more definition so Luke doesn't look like one of those idiots who inject synthol under their skin.
They kind of try this in 6, but it ends up making his forearms longer than his biceps + shoulders, making his wrists look weird. I still love him tho haha
It's amazing how to this day, the award for longest story goes to freaking ABIGAIL! Like don't get me wrong, that story was hilarious in how trolly it was, but why does that need to be the longest story?
It's always hilarious to me this characterization narrative sorthand of "Everyone was frozen in fear until Brave Hero Man showed up to say what's what, what an alpha he is!". Bro, I guarantee when shit goes down no one needs to be told to run the fuck away. lol
Luke is super fun man, i've been having a blast with him online. To be completely honest he's probably the most fun i've had with a character in SF5 in it's entirety. His combos and moves are just so satisfying to me. Man i was disappointed with his story tho, i thought for sure his dad was Guile's brother Gunloc, but apparently it's just some random guy named "Robert".
I agree his story was too damn short but hopefully his story would be better in Street Fighter 6. Speaking of that game, how do you like Luke's new design hell what do you think of all the characters new designs and new character Jamie? Lol
They should have gave Luke more battles like he could have fought Alex and Balrog maybe Ryu and Ken give him some type of boost so he be ready for his big role in Street Fighter 6 at least he have connections to a established character already.
I could see why they wouldn't want to do Ryu, as they can save the first time he meets him for 6. However, they should have had him fight someone that they don't want in 6.
It would've been cool if he fought Rashid and Ryu since one is the SF5 protagonist and the other is on the same path as Luke. I'm disappointed because it didn't feel like there was any connection to SF6. Rose's story did a better job hyping up SF6 than Luke's.
A good motivation for him to leave the force could be that he encounters Akuma and loses. From that fight he finds out there are very strong fighters out there which will lead him to leave the force to travel and fight.
He’s not going to have a big role in SF6. Capcom has a track record of hyping up new characters that inevitably lead to nowhere. He’ll be there definitely, but he won’t live up to his potential, then Capcom will create a new character that “fixes” those mistakes, rinse, repeat.
Luke might be taking Alex role in Street Fighter VI unless their stories coexisting at the same time and they work together or something wonder how they will coexist if that's the case.
From what i've heard SF6's story will take place "during" (i have no idea how) and "after" SF3. So Alex will most definitely be in the roster, maybe in the cinematic story mode the events of SF3 happen and then lead into the events of SF6 where Luke takes center stage.
Design aside, I actually really enjoy playing him. He is pretty difficult to get the timing right on flash knuckle, but he has some cool combos once you get used to it. Plus his v trigger is the most unique in the game.
His design is... Fine. Okay. Acceptable...but not very inspired, and yes, his forearms look weird, but his gameplay looks decent... I still wanted Viper though 😒 On the plus side, the fact Luke is a white guy with dreads is gonna trigger SJW types, and that's always a great source of entertainment.
@@orlanzo2621 Yeah. Most I've seen is ppl complaining about another blonde when he was revealed. Some got weird about it but no major outrage. I personally don't really care much myself about something as irrelevant as hair color representation lol
@@orlanzo2621 Precisely! A young boy gets inspired by his father's final act of courage, so he trains hard and joins the Armed Forces to grow stronger... Luke is basically your "Everyday Neighborhood *Real American Hero!"* 🎵 _(G.I. JOE~!!)_ 🇺🇲 ...Who would take offense?? 🤔
This “future of Street Fighter thing could mean one of two things: 1) Luke’s unique V-trigger timer and “cinematic slowdown” special hint towards a game philosophy that aggressive play will be rewarded. 2) Luke’s visual design is a sign that they are throwing out all of their wacky characters and everyone will just look like combat sports athletes.
I’m hoping towards mechanics they make something more entertaining to watch. I watch fighting games more than I play them and v triggers visually so vague as to what they do.
You have got to be kidding me. A lot of power must be added with forearms like that. There are main factors that affect punching power, but with forearms like that?? Nah man, they're adding some good amount of power. You can't tell me otherwise. lol
@@force5926 No, it doesn´t. Strong forearms are very important for grappling, but not really for punching. In order to generate power you need to push your body of the floor with your legs and rotate your hips/upper body with the punch. Punching power comes from your body mass and not from your arms. That´s what boxers call: "putting your weight behinde your punches".
It be funny Capcom just was saying Luke will be important to Street Fighter 6 story to trick us into buying him they did the same thing with G saying he is Street Fighter V final boss.
As an old fart I played SF II and fell in love with fighting games as a casual player. SF IV made me want to play more seriously, learn more combos and such. I went in SFV hopeful it would hook me but it just fell flat. I hope the next one brings me back in.
Luke story is underwhelming but he's being save for Street Fighter VI so they only gonna show a piece of who he is but still he should have at least had 2 or 3 battles in his story to get him pumped for his big break in VI.
@@bonnierabbit1413 Ryu is generic karate man, E. Honda is generic sumo man, Boxer used to be generic boxer man... it's nothing out of ordinary for Street Fighter.
All Might's hair. Popeye's arms. Steam constantly coming outta his body like Luffy in Second Gear mode. It's as if Capcom's SF5 team were in the break room one day watching a bunch of different shows while taking notes & mixed attributes from different characters to create this odd looking new character.
Luke gameplay: "Hehe, rocket punches." Luke lore: *"My dad died in a terrorist attack in front of me, and my goal to join the special forces has still left me feeling empty."* A little fucked up by Street Fighter standards.
Dan gameplay: "Hehe, I'm a parody of Art of Fighting characters" Dan lore: "My dad was killed by Sagat and I will avenge his death!" Kind of par for the course for Street Fighter.
Chun Li gameplay: "THICC KICKS" Chun Li lore: "My dad was killed by M. Bison so I joined the interpol and trained myself to become the strongest woman on the planet but I still failed to catch Bison." I think Luke's lore is pretty standard for SF.
This reminds me of a joke that jirard the completionist did about Max Payne, "I've lost my wife, my child and my job" and he mentioned it a lot... like a lot more then you would go nuts about it lol
@@iamfiefo Dan at least has comedic value. It's what his character is really designed for and he does it rather decently. He was also created over twenty years ago. Luke; *A new character made in 2021* who is supposedly the *the next protag of Street Fighter,* has shit like this. It is *not* par for the course. It's 12 birdies and two eagles on a par 71. It's trash. Laughably so. xD
I do love seeing how much of modern UFC is in this guy, I forget who but there’s a guy who did a celebration just like Luke’s in this. Not to mention his tattoos and the taunt where he put his hands locked behind him
I feel like the design brief might have been "his forearms get puffed up when he activates X ability" but somewhere along they line they forgot to model how they should look like normally...
His idle with his hands behind his back is probably a reference to Conor McGregor doing the same thing against Eddie Alvarez in 2016, given that he's sorta MMA-looking in his design.
I just want to know how everything will conclude in Street Fightet 6 because Street Fighter has to many plotlines that is left open like Seth is back what will be his role if he is in 6 or is G going to be important in 6 story but Gill suppose to be the main villain since Street Fighter 6 will suppose to retell Street Fighter 3 story unless Luke will be taking up Ryu role in being the hero.
@@wingbeck4563 This. SF6's story will more than likely be set in the past specifically to avoid chronologically going past SF3. Devs citing Luke as being central to SF6 doesn't strictly mean story. It could just mean gameplay style, presentation tone, and such - much like Alex/Rashido. Capcom might be concerned about having to age characters more than they need to out of concern that it reflects how Street Fighter itself is "getting old" from a branding perspective.
@@NameNotNeeded I mean the director hinted that some stories took place during and even after SF3 so it's not out of the possibility that 6 takes place after. As for the story, G will most likely be the main villain and we might learn about the connection between him and Q, I want to learn what happened to the Secret Society, and see Shadaloo slowly rise with maybe Fang and Phantom as playable characters.
Luke is very well designed in terms of how you can play him. Take the easy route get less reward, but easier target combos and a simpler VT1. It's still fun and viable to a certain extent. When you are more advanced and execution improves switch to VT2, learn charge timings (negative edge) with Flash Knuckle for bigger rewards. Mashing with him also stunts damage since optimal play does not include target combos. He is really a for anyone character and this is a great way to allow fun and growth via execution. If someone asked me if he is easy or hard I'd say "both". This is a good example of rewarding risk and technical ability, but not making a beginner stay away due to complexity.
He just has the typical street fighter proportions. Plus I think that’s what they were going for with his forearms kinda like with Chun li’s legs. His projectile is literally him punching the air really hard lol. That would take some serious forearm power
Upon seeing his ending, I have a sneaking suspicion that Luke is actually a reimagining of the two blonde guys from SF1 and SFII’s intro screen. Luke knocks out Dan with a single punch, and the next panel shows a crowd cheering him on for his victory. This is the exactly the same setup as SF II’s intro. They both also happen in an urban area. The guy from SF1’s has a star motif. Just like Luke. A crazy meta thing I thought of was that the reason why they had Luke specifically knocking out Dan was because of his connection to SNK. As we probably all know by now Dan was created as joke character to mock the SNK character of Ryo, who was heavily based off Ryu. It also happens that the Street Fighter 1 intro guy turns out to be the inspiration for one Mr. Terry Bogard, who also has a star on his back. That would mean both Dan and Luke would be characters that had similar origins regarding their creation. Luke beating up Dan could also be symbolic for the possibility that Dan might never return to Street Fighter. This could be Capcom’s way of burying the hatchet with SNK by essentially apologizing for making fun of them. Now Luke will be Street Fighter character tied to SNK, and instead of being a joke made at SNK’s expense it is sign of respect for their competitor. Last thing, I know this already long enough but I have one more crazy tangent left. CvS 2’s logo was a star. Luke is covered in stars, and could be Capcom trying to buddy-buddy with SNK. You know what that means… we may be close to CvS 3 finally happening!
I know I already told you how I feel about Luke in the Luke Presentation video, but I do like his design overall. His hair is unique, along with having braces.
Actuallu, the SF1 american is called Joe. He cameod in SF5's story mode being beaten by Mika and Zangief before Laura and Axel got into a fight with them.
If they did make it so you could cancel any attack into special would awesome. Alex would be a lot better if it crouching MP or MK could special cancel.
Rose couldn’t even foresee this tragedy no wonder g wants to destroy the world lol next game better not look like this though i hate the style of this game
@@rainofkhandaq6678 bitch he looks like shit. That is my main problem. His ink is boring and his design takes capcom the exaggerate the main limbs of attack to fail point
It's a weird choice to give him pop-eye arms even at rest. I hope they tone it down a bit. They can give him big forearms as his signature thing but it currently makes no sense anatomically. Just dial it back a bit Capcom. Maybe make them cartoonoshly big in motion instead of all the time.
The only thing clarified from his showcase is his dad yelling cause the bomb and terrorists. Cause in the showcase I was like why does his dad seem like he's getting everyone away from him as he bursts into a hulk white dad rage and he punches a wall.
I hope in the next street fighter we get some Canadian Fighters with our adamantium Claws and are Super Hyper senses. I how they have to patch out or healing Factor.
SF6 plot twist: Turns out that " Generic Fighter Man's " ... I mean, " *Luke Streetfighter's* " father is actually Vega!... I mean, *Bison!!* ... So, he chops his hand off and then he becomes Captain Commando! ... I mean, *Mega Man!!* ... And that's the reason why he got big Popeye forearms... 😑 That's a lot of blonde characters btw
Feels like they're really holding back with his character, saving him to be a badass MC in Street Fighter 6. Kinda makes him being the last a character in this game anticlimactic af tho.
