I’m a country boy, whiskey rock a roller, in some cases call me the breeze too! Their winterland ‘75 performance in my opinion is their best live performance ever and the version of im a country boy they play on that set is so much better than the studio version. Skynyrd is definitely in the top 5 greatest live performers ever. no debate about it. Everything they do live is perfect.

Ronnie was adamant that the band's live performances sounded as much like the studio version. Had them work the songs over and over until they got it. He was a hard workin' rock n roller for sure.

@kathyrais574
@kathyrais574 3 года назад
@@michaelcrowson3174 they were all gifted, Ronnie was a visionary & a poet. Al Kooper said one of things that inpressed him most is how prepared these guys were, they cane into studio with songs totally finished that ended up on album with very lil tweaking from him. Anyone who can take a 1920's Jimmie Rodgers tune turn into into a Southern Rock jam session & take JJ Cale's Call me The Breeze which was ok folky song & turn it into on of their most known songs is amazing to me. JJ Cale was a great songwriter, but to me, mainly that but besides Call Me the Breeze, he wrote Same Ole Blues one of my fav Skynyrd tunes. He wrote After Midnight & Cocaine which were huge hits for Clapton. Maybe all musicians write songs way they did, the way they worked together such as SHA, Gary playin a lil melody & Ed pick's up his guitar & just goes right into his famous riff at beginning. These guys were special, the 3 guitar army (w/Ed & Steve) all so different but they made all the sounds meld together so well. None of them ever got credit they deserved, it just basically 73-77 put out a lifetime of great music yet it took RocknRoll HOF till 2006 to induct them &( left out Honkettes BTW, they added so much to the songs, SHA, Whiskey Rock A Roller) That Smell etc took those somgs to next level & RVZ knew it would. He really was a songwriting genius, I am just a few yrs younger than Gary, at the time, it was all abt that Southern Rock Sound I loved but as I get older I realize just what a master he was. Some amazing lyrics in the fast & slow songs, he wrote such heartfelt ballads like Tuesday's Gone, Freebird, Am I losing? Or I'm a Country Boy talkin abt how much he hated going to the big cities to play. Saturday Night Special way before it's time. The in your face songs like On the Hunt, Don't ask me no questions, I ain't the one. Even all the songs that were initally unreleased were good enough to have been on Pronunced, they had 20 great songs ready to go. To me, this is 1 of the hugest loss in the music world of my generation. Just abt the only good music I hear today is from the late 60's-70's, that is sad

@@petermolin9831 Ed used his bending to make his solos sound the way he wanted them to. Yes most of what they do is pentatonic and blues scale based but Ed bent notes in places that a lot of people don't realize and it is why he is so hard to copy verbatim. People get close but not right on even Ed himself had different accents in his language live if that makes sense. Both ED and Stevie were great players though indeed. Actually all 4 of them were great guitarists...
