I'm still on my first play through, an I always do my first run on "normal" difficulty. I have already found that I prefer simulation driving an police though, except for "THE RACE". For that, I switched off driving simulation mode, and it only took me three tries.
I forgot more about the original game than most people ever learn about it. I drive for a living and I am pretty sure I spent more time driving in Lost Heaven as a kid than real life as an adult. The biggest flex in my class for the first year was how quickly can you finish the game and the only reason I never end up first was because I was the only one who always included Lucas Bertone missions.
i STARTED TO PLAY ALL GAMES ON EASY...I tried all games before at hard or even harder...But the last year i play for the story much more then the game play and this was way better for me personaly.... So is it only me that think the Mafia Original was waaaay to hard (tried it a little way back due to installed wrong game of them, but yes its a little different) Thanks 4 another great video(ALWAYS nr1 place)..
yeah fun fact the original mafia game also had the same thing where enemy's can lose your sight the same way you do here the game doesn't tell you that but it's cool sorry for my bad English 😅
Being a big Sim guy, that race wasn't jack compared to other stuff I've done, apparently everyone hated that race but it was easier than the live assetto 1000hp drift events I compete in😂
Ah yes, Mafia 3. AKA Shanking Simulator. Not a fan of the game's endings but that was what made it enjoyable. Need to clear out a place? *Shank everyone!*
@@ULTRABRULTRA ehm yes on classic with simulation driving it is pain, 1th and 2th guy got rockets car lol, and the ones behind just block so that u rage as fuck.
same. I've only watched but I'm confused as to how people think the original english voice acting was god tier. Hangar 13 actually surprised me... they really did pretty good with this remake.
@@hannya29 Exactly, I'm an Assetto Corsa racer and it took me two tries on the classic difficulty with a controller. On the first attempt I was overtaken just before the finishing line and lost by about 0.2 seconds.
That’s why I love the race despite the fact that I can’t beat it to save my life on classic Edit: I lowered the difficulty for that specific chapter just so that I could continue the story, eventually I’ll get back to trying to beat it again but I’m gonna have to take a break from it, a long break from it
For the race, something that might help: if you're in manual transmission, you can shift down to second gear before the turn, makes braking easier, you can shift up going out
A little late, but another great help is the ram button. Ram left in a left turn and it helps greatly. Just don't overuse it or try to solely rely on it
Aidan Austin - they’re ok, I am guessing you got the trilogy just like I did and want to find out what they are like, I will admit after playing mafia definitive edition I was hit hard with the change in mafia 2, but it is bare able and the story makes up for the graphics. I am yet to play mafia 3 but by videos I have seen on it it isn’t a lot of difference in graphics compared to the new mafia.
finished it like 10 minutes ago. It was good. I think I never finished story of the original one or it was so long ago that I do not remember. Really loved the remake. In the age where most of the games are open world and filled with a bunch of boring and repetitive side quest this was something refreshing.
@@overkill726 I thought for some reason my channel had been subbed to by them, cause my other comment has 30+ likes but 10 replies from different sex channels. I thought i was the only one, then I see other comments getting blown up as well. Not to mention how they just shovel ads into your recommended and home feeds, like it's fucking FB or Twitter. Google doesn't regulate any of the shady shit here. They just want premium money. I've found My 4 year old daughter watching a channel under childrens TV, that is a highly stylized cartoon channel, and teaches kids about pranks like freezing shaving cream and cutting it open with a Knife. There's not curation
Right?! It's like a combination of Monza w/ the GP/oval configuration and classic Spa Francorchamps w/ the Masta kink. You just need to drive aggressive up front and then run a good line to stay ahead.
Fifth try for me though. Took me that much to get used to the car's handling. You just have to manage your throttle, while trying to brake as little as possible in certain areas of the track, and you'll eventually end up P1 in the second lap. And honestly, the cars are pretty easy to handle on CLASSIC...
Handy tip for indoor firefights when you're playing Classic, i found that if you aim a gun at their chests, the kickback will cause the aim reticule to jump to their heads. So, double tap shoot for a headshot. Plus, sending a bullet into your enemy's heart and face in the span of less than half a second just feels so much more professional :P
Also game reviewers get what’s called “review copies” they play the game before everyone else so people know what they’re getting. It’s very common practice
They don't have other jobs. They aren't cooking at a fast food joint part time while doing this theres 100 Workable hours every two weeks. The jobs are split between staff
they do it on advance, this game is like 10 years old, they have the script way way back , and the footage is when devs send it for reviewing purposes like A WEEK before release
@@dauphongii They added it to use it for tuning cars, guns, clothes, good etc. Some of these could be robbed but some of them couldn't. It was fun. Why leave it out?
@@nondescripthandle212 Definitely not. The 1-star icon is a ticket. It's the same in the original game. You just pay minor traffic violations on the spot.
I beat the game few hours ago and I absolutely loved it. Took me roughly 9-10 hours on medium difficulty, I didn't want to play on classic because I just wanted to experience the story, not make it harder for myself. I'm a fan of the original so this was quite nostalgic to me. I was a bit sad that the original voice actors weren't present here, but the overall voice acting was objectively way better in this one compared to the original game. I'm also glad they didn't mess up the story, they left it mostly intact with few changes and some twists or pieces of information here and there. Would recommend to anyone that loves a good story and especially a mafia/mobster story. Regarding the technical side, don't expect "next gen" graphics and effects, but it's still a nice looking game.
I'm not sure I would say objectively better, they kinda ruined the vibe of Thomas Angelo the main character himself for some reason by making him sound like a stereotypical wiseguy instead of the more introspective cabby driver that he was. The same can be said for Paulie, for some reason his voice has become nasely and a little whiney at times. The game does some things better and some things worse, like losing some of the meaning and introspective nature of the ending. On the other hand it also expands on some stuff, by showing more and fleshing things out a bit. Not always for the better either but enough time at least. The first game is better for depicting thomas angelo as being a little out of place for that life, the remake tries to show that he has problems with it but it doesn't quite match with how they make him act all wiseguy and with that voice. I still very much enjoyed the game though, but it did become a little more..hmm.. "hollywood" or "spaghetti western" if you get my meaning. Good in what it does, but different from the original.
@@waaromn yeah I do agree with the part about Paulie, but that is kinda subjective. Objectively, line delivery and overall voice acting is improved compared to original. If you go back to the original you realize how bad some of the voice acting is, but the nostalgia hits anyway. I did miss Tommy Angelo's original voice, that's for sure, but that's a more subjective thing. I do also agree with the "hollywood" part, it maybe became a bit too stereotypical.
@@rand0mtv660 Yeah I also agree with you that the overal delivery of the lines IS better, that is not even up to debate. In the original the delivery can be a little dry or stiff at times. What the lines are and if they are better in the one or the other is more subjective however, because then you return to my earlier point where some of the introspective lines and such were removed in favor of more hollywood wiseguy esque lines.
"So we have a game series known for it's very engaging story..." "let's give players a prologue and then 9 15 minute missions that each take a bunch of generic radiant activities to unlock then the game's over" "great idea"
@@circlehousePRO Same lol I knocked out stealthily some guys for fun and went to the hangar 5 from the left. Not killing anyone, not fighting anyone. When Tommy said to Frank that he took care of the FBI I burst out laughing.
Loving this game. Can’t wait for Mafia IV. Hangar 13 seems to be improving. They just need to get character movement down. Tommy controls a bit choppy.
A couple days ago I played the race mission for the first time, and I was up all night trying to win the race. I finally did it around 3:30 A.M. I found it rather addictive in spite of how frustrating it is. While playing it, I also wondered how many people just gave up on that mission and sold the game because of it.
Ralph said it after the race - "when they started here 20 years ago, most of the racers didn't even finish" which is clearly a hint for how fucking hard was the race in original Mafia.
the key to winning the race is divebombing in the beginning and then running a good race line through the chicanes and banking turns. You don't need to ram cars, but the "ram" button will raise your revs temporarily, so I tended to use it to assist in acceleration after slowing in turns.
@@504WorldWar1 Yes exactly, that's the reason I mentioned the ram button in the first place, not to ram vehicles, but to get a boost. Looking at it now, I guess I wasn't clear about it lol.
@@504WorldWar1 i dive bombed into turn one harder then a kamikaze pilot in the battle of midway lol. all my years of sim racing led me to this moment. also ive yet to see another person call it a chicane lmao
Anyone fighting the armour car on classic turn your aim assit high. Plus, when you sneak into the airport to catch frank can be done 100% stealth no shots fired.
Pre ordered the game, and got 100% of the trophies in the first two weeks. I really loved this game, and I miss it sometimes. It's a shame there wasn't any dlc or year 1 bonus content
The race is a cake walk compared to the later, Morelo in a plane mission. When racing, downshift (if in manual mode) and/or tap the circle ⭕️ (handbrake) on corners. Every car reacts different to handbraking, but it helps immensely going around corners in general.
Oh yeah I know exactly which mission you're talking about I remember the first week this game is out I raged so damn hard on that mission I honestly thought there was something wrong with my controller. Or that I accidentally turned off automatic transmission.
When it comes to the race, your best bet to beating it is to turn on the speed limiter on the turns. It slows you down without braking so it is much harder to spinout.
I found the race ok, starting so far back you have to dive-bomb the field into Turn 1 (a la Forza), if you drive cleanly after that you should win. The bit I got stuck on in classic mode was the armored police vehicle, mission difficulty seemed really inconsistent overall.
Forza Horizon 4 on "Unbeatable" difficulty is harder than the racing mission in Mafia on "Classic" difficulty (to be clear "unbeatable" difficulty is still very well manageable). Exactly like you said, make sure to get as far ahead in the beginning and follow the racing line but also make sure to not hit the brakes too hard because that will make the wheels lock and make sure to slide the car as little as possible (aka oversteer). Just keep the car at speeds and steering angles where you find a balance between understeer and oversteer and of course as fast as possible within those boundaries.
I preffer walking in any kind of a game that have some proper walk control. It´s kind of a relaxing joy. For example RDR2 has some good walking mechanic. :) You can check in my gameplays :)
This sounds drastically different then what Jake described the game. He said no mini games, no open world elements etc... sounds like you explained that here a few times.
If you remember the before you buy, Jake baldino said there are things in free ride he rather leave as a surprise, so he tried to make it less spoiler as possible
During the race i hit someone which caused a chain reaction and made everyone crash. So i ended up only having to race 3 other racers. Ended up winning on my first try.
I finished it in my first try.The first 2 laps weren't so good, but on the third lap i managed to finish first,i played on simulation driving mode.I slowed down in corners. The race was way harder in the original (it had 5 laps, you landed upside down, you die,no flip vehicle mechanic,4 laps being first and the last one could fuck you up cuz you flipped and landed on your head).
@@AlexxWWE15 But in the original you could easily left the other racers behind. Here you can't. They Always only about 25 meters behind you. It gets you pretty nervous after a minute.
"where the track bends to the left then to the right soon after" ..... a chicane... its called a chicane lol i feel like all my years of semi pro sim racing has led me up to this exact moment lmao
After watching """calming""" driving through city video, I have successfully come to the conclusion that BY GOD ARE PEOPLE BAD AT DRIVING IN VIDEO GAMES. I mean it's horrible, they never ease into the joystick, just immediately push it all the way to the left or right. When I play Mafia, I have the brake barely pressed while driving. I can do car pans and cinematic shots while driving no problem, then I watch the videos and it's horrifying. Speeding like crazy too then getting confused why they won't stop or turn in time.
I effectively use covering in classic mode, you just have to let them shoot their entire magazine and then shoot them when they're reloading or moving places
Played this game on Classic difficulty from start to end and finished it. Time based missions are very frustrating because they take off a significant amount of time but when you finished the mission it feels very rewarding.
completed all timer based things first try, I absolutely adore the driving in this game (playing on a controller at classic manual) but hated the combat, that's where I struggled the most. It requires you be so patient and is so repetetive at that difficulty because the controller controls are so unwieldy to aim and track targets that you are forced into a slow cover based playstyle.
@@rafsunnavid6101 Literally if you mess up ONCE you have no chance of winning. You also need to have a damn near perfect beginning to get ahead. That would be easy if you weren't driving a 1930's racecar which handles terribly
Another tip for beating the race on classic mode is to use the ram button to turn corners. (X on Ps4 or A on Xbox) The chances of you spinning out while using the ram button to turn corners is very unlikely compared to turning normally. You can aslo use the ram button to speed boost by pressing it rapidly and not turning the analog stick.
Other things: •The Herbert Baskerville missions give other bonuses besides cars-so far I've also unlocked a costume (clown suit) and two weapons (gold tommy gun, gold shotgun) •You can change the time of day in Free Ride mode by interacting with some of the paintings in Salieri's bar •You CAN shoot the car crash survivor (forget his name) in The Saint and the Sinner before reaching the ground floor of the church. Same goes for anyone else you're chasing after (if there's a sight line at any point, that is)
What I'm thinking is that "the race" was never really harder than a boss in like Dark souls would be today, and the truth is were we all just kids and really bad at games. I mean, you can finish it if you try many times, very much like Dark souls.
Please the race was easy y’all obviously suck at driving (I’m kidding) but i managed it first try mainly because racing game’s were all i played back in the day
I 100% completed the original game including ‘that’ level and free ride extreme and it’s probably one of my greatest gaming achievements. I think the race level took me every evening for around a month to complete but at the time it just felt kind of realistic, not broken. Such a satisfying game to master and definitely one of my favourites of all time. I haven’t played the definitive edition but highly recommend the game in general!
Also, set your transmission mode to Manual. This allows you to take advantage of the higher power bands by shifting later, and engine braking by downshifting before a turn.
Oh God, the race 😱 - I'm one of those who played the very first version 20 years ago, where you really couldn't change anything about the difficulty. I seriously started crying 😭because I was constantly flying out of one curve or another or otherwise kicking myself out of the race. But I loved Mafia so much at the time that I still wanted to somehow pass the race so I could keep playing the game. My attempt to play the game now on "Classic" difficulty took me back to the old days - but I'm 20 years older now and I didn't want to start the race over and over again for more than 5 hours, so I gave up and lowered the difficulty for the race - it's good to have the option, and there really are more important achievements in life than playing through Mafia completely on "Classic". I was really pleased to see so much effort put into the better graphics, and a bit more depth to the story too ❤. It's a shame this isn't done on more games, there were some that deserved it.
The race was actually really easy in classic even. The thing that made me rage quit was the car chase after the shoot out at the farm. There was just no way to shoot cars quicker than the trucks health going down. Had to put it on easy for that mission.
Pro tip on Classic aswell: If you do a critical hit(as I call it) like the shotgun clip where the guy is so hurt he just stands there for a while. Or if you’re using a bolt action rifle, and you hit a guy, while he is staggered. Just switch to a pistol and finish him with one shot cause bolt action ammo is a lot harder to find.
I race in real life so the race mission for me is easy. Even on the hardest difficulty. This remake is sooooo soooo good man. Thanks for the content too!
Tip for the race, on the first corner go through the hay. If you hold left, with minor corrections, tommy will drift over the grass and get to the other side. It’s not quicker but it is more reliable. Also don’t break in the corner as the car won’t turn. Break before the corner then let go of both break and accelerator while you turn, get to the angle you want and accelerate again.
Lol 😂 before I bought it, I checked the comment in Xbox store. There were 2 comments. 1. It’s a masterpiece game and definitely worth it!. 2. This game is f****** b******* because that person can’t go further than the racing game, so is not able to continue the game 😂 I bought it, so far enjoying it
Just bought the mafia trilogy for £12.50, never played them before and I've just completed the 1st game. Amazing story and characters! Cant wait for the next 2.
the race wasn't that hard imo. I even literally flew out one of the corners when I hit the dirt hill and still made it ( probaly a lot of luck lol) The crazy horse side mission was a bitch tho.
The Race was so hard in the original game becaus all of the Devs were testing it using race wheel peripherals. Apparently it just didn't occur to them to check that the race might be doable, or fun, just using a keyboard. (Remember, PC only on its first foray.)
As a kid i made it on 40th or 60th attempt! But a few years back i replayed the 1.0 version and was astonished how easy it is after you know the secret of how to come first through the u-turn, if you cut corners and block opponents...
The race is actually pretty easy in the remake, compared to the original. I did it on the first try, with simulation driving, with zero issues. First few times I ran through the original Mafia, I did have to try a few times, but later on they released a patch which introduced a difficulty slider for the race. The original, before the patch, was a challenge, mostly because of the car handling. It slid out at the slightest provocation, meaning you needed to employ a very delicate touch. You didn't have much room for error at the hardest difficulty / before the patch, so a single mishap was often enough to lose the race. The race car handling is way too easy in the remake. Just keep the throttle pinned basically all the way through and profit.
Played on classic for half the game and then I got so frustrated with the mechanics and dying bc of them that I switched to easy just for the story and honestly the game started to get fun. Shooting is weird but with aim assist and more health you can rush them and play agressive. Its a lot more fun
Just beat Definitive Edition on Classic difficulty but I’m not gonna lie, had to temporarily switch down to Hard before going back to Classic after completing a couple of the missions. But hey, I got a HUGE amount of satisfaction from beating the race on Classic!!!!
