Great reaction Ollie. Looking forward to the next one - The Enforcer (1976) Here are some more bio information for ya. This movie would feature David Soul (as Davis) who later went onto play 'Hutch' from the long running 70s - early 80s cop show 'Starsky & Hutch' (and even has a cameo in the 2004 Ben Stiller & Owen Wilson reboot film as the original Hutch character) and was also in the original 1979 TV miniseries 'Stephen King's: Salem's Lot'. Robert Uricht (RIP) (as Grimes) - Co-stared in the original 'SWAT' TV show & would later play in the crime drama TV series 'Vega$' as well in the long running TV detective series 'Spenser: For Hire'. Tim Matheson (as Sweet) - would be better known for staring in Bonanza TV series, National Lampoon's Animal House, Fletch, Buried Alive 1 & 2, Van Wilder, Stephen King's: Sometimes They Come Back, TVs The 'West Wing' & TVs 'Burn Notice'. Kip Niven (as Red) (RIP) - would be better known for 'Airport 75', 'Earthquake', 'New Year's Evil', 'Damnation Alley', 'The Hindenburg', 'Midway', 'Raising Jeffrey Dahmer' & numerous TV guest appearances. Felton Perry (as Early) would be remembered from the original 'Walking Tall' movie, 'The Towering Inferno', 'Dumb And Dumber', 'Puppet Master 4 & 5' as well as the first '3 RoboCop' films. Hal Holbrook (as Briggs) (RIP) - would also be know for staring in the original 'John Carpenter's: The Fog', 'Creepshow' (the 1983 movie, not the current TV series on the shutter network), 'Fletch Lives', 'Wall Street', 'The Firm', 'All The Presidents Men', 'Into The Wild', 'Disney's Hercules', 'Capricorn One', 'Steven Spielberg's: Lincoln', 'Men Of Honor', 'North & South' TV miniseries & playing Mark Twain on stage in the play 'Mark Twain Tonight!' Mitchell Ryan (as officer Charlie McCoy) (RIP) - would also be known for the TV series Dark Shadows, TVs Dharma & Greg, TVs Hart To Hart, TVs The A-Team, TVs Star Trek: TNG, Aces: Iron Eagle III, Judge Dredd, Halloween 6: The Curse Of Michael Myers, Liar Liar, Grosse Pointe Blank, The Devil's Own & the first Lethal Weapon movie. Also a young pre-Chrissy (from Three's Company) Suzanne Somers (who was uncredited) is one of the unfortunate pool party guests.

I love this movie of the whole Dirty Harry saga, the villains were basically byproducts of Dirty Harry’s past actions, his reputation created a literal Punisher Squad AKA Magnum Force.

This sequel is a necessary counterpoint to the first one. The police cannot simply throw out people's rights altogether and become Judge Dredd (despite what the original film would suggest), even if the system has its flaws. Law is necessary for a functioning society.

"A man's GOT to know his limitations." Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Kip Niven. Creed Cameo Fact: An uncredited Carl Weathers can be seen briefly as one of the demonstrators protesting in front of the court house in the beginning of the movie. The Rest Of The Story Fact: The aircraft carrier in the shootout scene was the USS Rabaul (CVE/CVHE/AKV-21), which commenced construction in January of 1945. It was based in Tacoma, WA but never saw duty; being held in reserve until she was finally sold for scrap, shortly after this film was released. That's Hot Fact: According to screenwriter John Milius, the sex scene with the Asian woman Sunny (Adele Yoshioka) is in the script because Clint Eastwood received many fan letters from Asian women that contained sexual propositions. David Soul, who played the blonde cop, was then in an open relationship with Sondra Locke, both married at the time. She would become Clint Eastwood's live-in lover two years later. True Crime Fact: On April 22, 1974, two men robbed a Hi-fi shop in Ogden, Utah. They made the five hostages drink Drano and then shot them in the head. The next day, an unnamed informant called in a tip to Ogden City Police with information that would help wrap up the case much sooner than police had anticipated. The informant, an airman stationed at Hill Air Force Base, told police that he had overheard two of his fellow airmen talking about robbing a store. He had also overheard the suspects talking about killing witnesses utilizing the "Death By Drano" method used by the pimp (Albert Popwell) to murder the prostitute (Margaret Avery) in this movie, which the two suspects had seen prior to the crime. Two of the hostages miraculously survived. The crime would forever be known as "The Hi-Fi Murders" afterwards.

Hal Holbrook (Lt. Briggs) (1925-2021) played a lot of oddball/scuzzball authority figures. "All the President's Men" (where he's Deep Throat). "The Firm." "The Star Chamber." "Capricorn One." He also did a popular stage show where he played Mark Twain.

I LOVE how Harry tries-out the guy's gun in the competition, supposedly 'accidentally' misses, then returns later to collect the embedded bullet and have it tested. While the baddies are great killers, Harry is the whole sneaky, deadly package.

Hollywood Physics was involved in the scenes with the silenced revolvers. I am a range safety officer for my county's public rifle range and I routinely am on the firing line when customers use silencer-equipped firearms. I wish I could get something as quiet as those Hollywood silencers. As for the motorcycle cop dying when falling off the aircraft carrier's flight deck, that deck was at least thirty feet above the water line, some three stories. As a Marine recruit in boot camp during 1975 I was trained to safely abandon ship off a 20-foot tower into a swimming pool. The big nuclear carrier flight decks are high enough off the water to injure or kill even when proper techniques are used--and being stunned can lead to drowning. The motorcycle cop probably would not have floated after impact, not wearing the leathers. Pants and jacket and gunbelt all add up to as much as 20 pounds. Can you swim with 20 pounds weight? If the cop hit the water wrong, skull fractures or a dislocated spine could kill.

Oh, you want to watch Eastwood's The Eiger Sanction. Before Stallone climbed mountains in Cliffhanger. Eastwood plays a cross between Dirty Harry and a darker James Bond, did almost all of his own stunts, also directed and bonus has John Williams, before Jaws score it. Big treat awaits.

Actually, diving to the bottom of the pool probably would save you. Despite what we see in movies and TV, bullets don't do well once they hit the water, they'll slow dramatically, and change direction considerably. Odds are that you'd never even get hit, let alone killed by a bullet in the water.

The plot was a response to criticisms of the first movie that Harry was a vigilante who had no regard for peoples' rights. The romance with the Asian girl was put in because the first movie did well in Asian markets.The actor playing the murdered pimp appeared in every Dirty Harry movie except the last one (he's the "punk" in DIRTY HARRY who Harry asks, "Do I feel lucky?").

For what it's worth that ship was an aircraft carrier--a WW2 CVE. I can only guess the weight of the plastique explosive, but aa block is typically either 1.1 or 2.2 pounds. The smaller amount is equal to the explosives in three M67 fragmentation hand grenades and a pound would probably do the damage shown on screen, though there wouldn't be as much flame until the gas tank touched off. The "machine gun" was a Smith and Wesson Model 76, a reverse-engineered Swedish K M45B 9mm Luger submachine gun.
@readhistory2023
@readhistory2023 11 месяцев назад
If you've seen a handgrenade go off in real life it looks nothing like what they show in the movies. Hollywood almost always adds gasoline to their explosions to get the fire ball because it's visually more dynamic and interesting vs showing a puff of smoke and a shock wave.

Depending on the depth of the pool, the shape of the round, and how much power was behind it you absolutely could be safe by diving to the bottom of a pool. Any kind of a soft nose or hollow point is going to start deforming or breaking apart as soon as it hits the surface of the water the same as if it had slammed into a solid wall. If it it is a full metal jacket round nose or a round with a point it can survive entry into the water but it will immediately and very rapidly slow down. Unless somebody was right at the surface of the water with one of the most powerful rifles in the world you would be perfectly safe if you were at a depth of 6 feet/2 meters or more. And that isn't just theoretical math either. Not only did they demonstrate it on Mythbusters but there are also bullet traps that use a tank of water to slow down and catch bullets from guns that are being test fired. As for a tire stopping a bullet, a normal tire would slow one down a little but that was a heavy equipment tire for something like a large tractor or dump truck. They are designed for use on vehicles that are MANY tons and are VERY thick. I found a video of somebody shooting one that appeared similar in size and anything bigger than a .22lr seems to be able to go though both sides but the bullets did start tumbling and deflecting so they were losing a lot of energy. So if there was anything else in the middle of the tire it could possibly stop the bullets or maybe at least knock them off target or slow them down enough to not be lethal but I wouldn't want to count on it.

It was promising until the final act and then it just got stupid. They set up this gun battle with the bad guys and . . . the protagonist has no gun? So he bashes the guys head into the dashboad so he can run away (seriously?). Then he has to punch a guy to death (seriously?). He has to ride around on an old ship and trick the guy into driving off into the water where the short fall somehow kills him (seriously?). What a ending.

Ollie, I really hope you also do (aside from the Dirty Harry movies) Every Which Way But Loose, Any Which Way You Can (they are a pair), Bronco Billy, and Space Cowboys.... all of which starred Clint Eastwood. On a related note, "Going Ape" is one I've not seen any Reaction channels do, and it also stars some of Bobby Berosini's orangutans (one of which was in the "Loose" movies as Clyde). They also worked in the Cannonball Run II, and Berosini had a full stage show with his apes. On another related note, you should do the "Death Wish" movies, which are similar to the Dirty Harry movies.

5:15 - Yeah, airport security was a LOT less intense back then. Before 9/11, hijackers usually would demand money or something political, negotiate with authorities, then release the hostages. If they were "in flight", they would have the plane diverters to somewhere they would give them an advantage during negotiations.9/11 changed all of that.
