Get You Own PaleoHikerMD Patches HERE!: www.etsy.com/shop/PaleoHikerM... Is all char cloth created equal? Well, I used to think so! In this video I will tell ya'll how I make what I think is the best type of char cloth.
It's cheap, easy to make, and so easy to work with. What I use to make it creates a super hot center that I really think will help you in your quest to make fire the old fashioned way. As always, thanks for watching!

old jeans for me, the best char cloth every time. Though I tend to make lots of the stuff and use it for flint and steel rather than ferro rods.

I use the 100% cotton mop heads to make char rope out of... It is also great to dunk the mop strands into hot wax to use as a flame extender for damp ness in the wood for a fire, or to twist into a coil and lift the end up and lite for a candle flame for light a handful of them in a zip lock bag will last quite awhile. I like to use denim material to make char rolls with ( videos on my channel ) it is so easy to pull off the amount of char for the fire bundle i.e.: more for a wetter tinder. Heck! twist a few of the wax mop strands to make a simple fire to sanitize or heat water for food and drink. I enjoy your vids, good work keep it up. ONT...o~*o.....Ride...On.....

If you want the biggest best char material, get one inch round cushion piping from hobby lobby 100 percent cotton. Char it and tear off a piece and you have a blow torch.

I do that with cotton balls! You will get an even hotter ignition. Once a spark is captured the ignition immediately drives deep to the center of the cotton ball. It will burn hot, longer, and is impossible to put out without stamping the whole cotton ball out and pretty much destroying it. So if you want a fire, with a cotton ball, there is no turning back!

Cool I have made a few of those but I think that old paint tarps that don't have much paint on them cut into little pieces work great. I need to go make some

I watched your video yesterday on better chart cloth. I went out today and bought some cotton rounds and turned it into char cloth . Amazing, and lights every time whether with a feral rod Or flint and steel. Thank you for this video.

@@robertgrosser3359 the silk ones make a great ball patch for muzzle loaders, cotton for the balls .1 inch under caliber, silk (like the good undies) for the balls .05 inch under caliber.....

Great tip! I've been experimenting with different charred materials. Usually I use an old undershirt but recently got a par of khakis my dad was going to throw out that are 100% cotton. It works pretty well for being a more heavyweight cotton but doesn't catch a spark as easy. I like charred punkwood a lot but have to go out and find some more. I'll have to try out the wax rounds, looks like yours almost produced a flame by itself! Thanks for sharing. -EDC

Personally I like finding an old pair of blue jeans. to me that makes the very best fire starter. I char all that stuff up on my stove in the house. Flint and steel works great.

Great tip! I soak similar cotton rounds in wax for DIY fire starters. I'll have to set aside some of those cotton rounds for Char Cloth now I think! One bit of advice I would give is not to buy the "cheapest" cotton rounds as they are not nearly as thick and useless for lack of a better word. Good video!

Lee Ralph I had always rolled cotton, the rolls worked SO much better. These recreate the multiple layer effect, and its so lazy it's perfect!

Ever consider frying them in wax? Joking apart, soak them in wax, let them dry and you have wax wafers. Snap one in half, then bend one of the halfs. Lay it down to form an 'L'. I guarantee, one decent strike with a ferro rod and that baby catches and burns. You won't even need to use the entire half and can blow it out for later use, unless there's severe wind blowing. Try it. I promise you'll be converted. Lol.
@Flashahol
@Flashahol 5 лет назад
Best fire starters for sure. These can burn like hell in high winds, though.... had 4 foot long sideways flames one time, but you get guaranteed ignition.

I just tried this, didn’t like it, they are way too soft for my liking. I have used denim also, it is good, but a plain old cotton tee shirt works the best for me. Flint and steel or fire piston, tees work for me!
