Join The Incense Dragon as he explores the different types of incense extruders you can make and use at home. Incense made with an extruder has a professional look that cannot be easily achieved any other way. Making joss sticks with an extruder gives your incense a consistent diameter and a smooth finish. Best of all, these extruders are simple to make and inexpensive. An extruder is a must for anyone who makes incense sticks!

Ok are you a teacher 👨‍🏫? Because this was perfect! You broke down every single thing! I see an extruder that I want so I can do this! When I first watched this video a few months back, I didn’t fully understand but now that I have all of the ingredients, I see that you did, in fact, cover everything!!! Thank you so much for posting this! Also I watched a video on Tibetan monks making incense and they make them this exact same way! They make the “dough” then the pipe them out one by one, by eye! I thought that’s what I was going to have to do until I came across your videos! Thanks again for sharing! P.S. are you writing or have you written a book 📖 yet?? Because I will buy it! ❤️

Hi Carl! I use a similar extruder for my incense stick. I got a trouble: most of them are broking in 2 or 3-4 pieces during the drying process... I'm using for my paste : 2Tbsp Tabu powder, 1Tbsp water, less than 1/4tsp xanthan powder...

How can I make my scents stable and strong so that after burning of incense, the aroma stays for few minutes.
@IncenseDragon
@IncenseDragon 6 лет назад
That is mostly dependent on the ingredients that you use. Resins tend to have the most staying power.

Is there any place that sells drying boards like that with the grooves?

As I watched this I thought why extrude, why not roll out into a mold? Cut lines into a board just to the depth of the stick. Then I saw the ''drying board'' with all the grooves at 11:23, if you carved those lines cover with plastic wrap or use a mold release wouldn't that work? You might be able to use a pasta roller and spaghetti cutter?

Good thought but it would be very difficult to remove the incense from the board without breaking or distorting it. I imagine there's a way to deal with those issues, but when making large batches the easiest method it to extrude onto a flat drying board where you periodically roll the sticks back and forth for drying. For small batches I like the lined drying boards.

How can i make my incense smell good as soon as you light them ? I'm using Makko powder, herbs and essential oils + water. I read that it doesn't matter too much how much Makko powder I use but maybe its effecting the smell too ? Thank you !
@IncenseDragon

How much makko you use can have a huge impact on scent. Use the least amount of makko as possible. Adding more essential oil will improve the scent immediately after lighting, but oils can easily overwhelm the scent of your herbs. Thanks for watching!

Can you advise please what size ml syringe end i should be using?
@IncenseDragon
@IncenseDragon 10 месяцев назад
It doesn't really matter the length, only the diameter. You could find a tip that will work on 10, 15, or 20cc syringes, and probably others as well.

With this process, is it possible to add bamboo stick to the incense or can that only be achieved through the hand rolled process.
@IncenseDragon
@IncenseDragon 5 лет назад
It's not only possible, but it's my preferred technique. You need a wider nozzle than you would use to make typical joss sticks, but I like to extrude a think joss stick and just insert a wooden toothpick into one end and let it dry. For most incense you won't need a stick that extends the entire length - just enough to allow it to be used in a masala-style incense burner. With a wide nozzle on an extruder, you can even insert a thin bamboo stick into the extruder itself and extrude incense directly onto the bamboo. I'm planning to shoot a video about that later this year.
