This Microtech ultratech Tri grip has been giving me problems not wanting to fully deployed or retract with any sort of reliability time to disassemble it and see what's up
Hey man just wanted to say THANK YOU. I over oiled my knife and wanted to disassemble, easy enough but getting that spring back on was terrible, it just kept jumping when I'd try to set it under tension to the back of the blade. @5:30 you showing the spring just needs to be attached to the slide saved me. I just moved the blade forward and was able to get everything back together. Knife firing a lot smoother. Seriously saved my day.
I love your outlook on not "having" to do maintenance but getting to do maintenance, great way to look at it. Tinkering with things adds another level of enjoyment to the hobby... I've been wanting an Ultratech for a while now. I'd like to pick up the Boba Fett version but I just keep missing it...Great vid as always!
You all prolly dont give a shit but does anybody know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost my login password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
@Nolan Nova i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
thank you this helped me so much. the mechanism must have just stopped and the blade just fell out. now that i have reassembled it i can hear the springs work better than ever. thanks again!
Really dig the vid. I didnt want to spend $30 and wait a few days to get a microtech Bit, so I emailed Microtech. They told me to dip it in Alcohol, then shoot some remoil in it. So I did. Now it works perfectly! I still like watching you take it apart though.
We have found that a dousing with lighter fluid takes care of this. Very light lube film from lighter fluid. It won't hurt the knife or its handles... it cleans it up well and restores function without taking the knife apart.
@@FuelTankerMan Microtech recommends spraying Rem Oil inside of it and holding it upside down to drain off excess..They literally soak it in their video
Thanks for this Vid man. Stopped carrying my Hellhound because of the same situation (wouldn't deploy properly). Used your trick with the paper towel. Boom! I'm pickle Rick...
Some people dont really know, but you do have to keep your knives in check. Every two months i inspect my otfs and other edc knives so i can clean them. I check my otfs the most, almost every month. They're like a firearm.
the best thing to lubricate my microtech ive found to be CLP its a gun oil that is very thin and penetrates through all of the seams in the knife and pushes all debris to the surface
No bs. Straight to it. Subbed. Love the content. Hey guys......he never asked anyone to sub or like............he knows knifes. He talked to us. That what we do like. Thank you sir have a great day.
Id like to get my hands on that tool. Ive seen tools for these but i like that little ribbed tool with the logo. Looks like it would make a great little keychain and then id always have my tool handy in case a screw comes loose or something while out
They should design it even worse so you'll have more fun fixing it. Of course price should go higher ;) But seriously cool videos m8. Pleasure to watch.
If you can see a puddle of oil when you pull the side off, there's WAY too much oil in it! In fact, the best way to run an OTF is "dry" with just the barest hint of oil - because it really doesn't need any. A few drops of oil create drag on the blade making if misfire, and over time, oil tends to thicken as the solvents in it dissipate leaving behind a thickened sludge or gunk.
Shit, that reminds me of the M16A2, a little sand or dirt and you will jams and other problems.....thanks for the video, and now I know if it happens with mines!!!!!! take care
Mine started with the same problem as yours. I did the oil and compressed air thing and it worked for awhile. Now the switch moves freely up and down and the blade doesn’t come out. I’m bummed. I haven’t decided if I’m going to send it in, or try to fix it myself, just yet.
Try some Hornady One Shot spray lube/cleaner. It's a dry lube in a carrier that evaporates. Also Birchwood Casey Gunscrubber might free up a sticky knife like that without having to take it apart.
I bought a brand new UTX-70. It's not legal for me to carry, so it's just been sitting in my collection since day one. Today, I found someone who wanted to buy it so I went to grab it and it's malfunctioning... The blade will not lock in any position (open or closed) and the switch is loose and does nothing as well. I cannot manually lock the blade by hand in the open position either for some reason. Pretty sad that this can happen to a brand new knife that has literally never been used once! Of course, I cannot send the knife for warranty repair because Microtech will not ship to my state anyways... plus they're temporarily closed as of right now because of the COVID-19 stuff. Had to buy the stupid little tool today just so I can take it apart and take a look.
Luke.. I have the same knife. I bought it a day ago and out of the BOX it's doing what yours is doing. I don't want to send it in so I may take it apart. I wonder if there's a way to mod it so there's no safety derailing so it will always fire ?
$300....I`ve heard a few of these stories..Are the tolerances that tight that just a tad piece of dirt will cause this??? I like the "no safety " mod question...
The mechanism is the same as in a UTX 85 right? Cause i'm only disasebling it myself after i 100% know how the mechanism works. I'm unable to send it to microtech sadly because i risk losing my entire knife at customs. (I live in the Netherlands where otfs are illegal to have) Don't ask me how i got it in the first place 😅
Is this a legit ultratech?? I've never seen this one before from microtech. I found one identical on Amazon that's unbranded for $50. It's a little heavy, but man what great knife! Especially for the price. Not one single problem with firing the blade. It hasn't failed on me yet.
I tried to "oil" mine, and it immediately stopped working. The oil suctions on the inner part, and slows down the deployment. I use white gun grease, it works very well.
You are supposed to use rem oil spray with a straw and activate the the knife several times then use compressed air also with a straw like a can of air for cleaning electronics no need to take it apart ever unless you have had it in the ocean or sand. This is a good way to lose parts and void the lifetime warranty that comes with every Microtech.
Where do people keep getting this info that taking it apart voids the warranty? Microtech specifically says it will NOT void the warranty to disassemble it. Also, that's illegal in the US anyhow. Has been since the 1970's. A warranty may not be voided because something was taken apart. Even if you break the "warranty void if broken" stickers.
That wouldn’t work at all , unless you removed the front lock tab , even then ..it doesn’t have the spring tension to make it go further than probably 2 feet or less ... that’s if the blade even makes it clean out from the handle .. since it’s connected to the spring slide it would reach a certain point then pull itself back in ... fun idea , but the mechanics behind Microtech ultratechs are there for a reason .. you want a ballistic knife , there’s videos on how to make one on RU-vid , or you could try buying one lol 😂good luck 👌👍
@@clandestinetactical perhaps a single action instead of double? Much stronger opening than a double so if just trying to launch that might work with the right build
joey stevenson if they're legal to purchase in your area best place is online not many Cutlery stores carry Microtech check out bladehq.com bladeops.com gpknives.com bladeplay.com knivesshipfree.com
rawpilot84 Microtech does limited runs on most of their knives they only made the tri grip model ultratech for a short while you can still find a ultratech bayonet blade but the tri grip model may not be available new for sometime keep your eye out on the secondary used Market they pop up every once in awhile
David Corey flush it flush water through it the more the better if there's something stuck in there it may be tough to get out without disassembly but if it's a Microtech they'll take care of it for you if you actually want to wait the time to send it in
extremestuntmen I love it it's light long handles for the weight and The ball bearings aren't smooth not in a bad way gives a great feeling to flip but I don't think it's the best choice for and hardcore or more experience flipper doesn't carry momentum very well
HeyGeesh Blade HQ can’t keep any of them in stock. I bought a UTX85 from a small shop in SC called Southern Edges on Thursday (3 days ago), it’ll be here tomorrow afternoon. Good pricing, same day shipping.
The only problem by doing your own maintenance you void the microtech lifetime warrantee I have a few microtech knives and they all have this problem it’s pretty sad you pay this much money for an American made knife and you’re by a Chinese replica and they don’t have this problem what’s going on here at the USA it’s sad
Awful reliability for 300$, bought several MT knives, but regret of two Ultratech OTF's. It just expensive fidget automatic knife. Mine new from the box having issues with locking when deployed, REM oiled several times, lots of oil, tiny amount of oil, nothing work.
A knife that cost ass munch ass a microtech should be warranted even if it gets stolen or lost because the cnc machine clone and they all are only cost $50.00-$100.00 at the most to replace !
I type in “otf knives” just to see what’s out there and it’s video after video of microtech complaints and fails… seems like their business model of producing mediocre products, charging insane amounts and spending more on marketing than production is catching up to them perhaps.
300 usd is stupid. Having said that I spend way too much on vape gear. Seems like there is high cost gadgets for all the good things men buy.. Inc women
