sorry to be so offtopic but does anyone know of a way to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot my password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me
@Koa Braylen i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Ok honestly listening to this guy get so excited and interested by the internals of knives and their working mechanisms has to be the most wholesome shit ever
The Microtech "secret" is the massive, hardened blade locks, how they're shaped, and how they're fitted. The blade lock recess is precisely dimensioned to eliminate shifting of the lock under strain. Also, the radiused shape acts to make the locks tend to rotate toward the centerline of the blade as pressure is applied. On inexpensive OTFs - and many not-so-inexpensive versions the locks are little more sophisticated than stamped out squares barely over 1mm thick, with squared profiles on the their edges. These locks, combined with oversized recesses, allow the lock to be pushed close to engagement loss, and tend to fold away from the blade centerline under pressure. Be nice if reviewers understood the "why" of MT OTF design and used calipers to compare against lesser brand blade locks.
Dude I think you should do a podcast because your voice is so satisfying. I could totally listen to you talk about knives and anything for that matter for hours
Well done video. I have both models but have only disassembled the Ultra. Hope I never have to get into the Combat... Signature Series, Apocalyptic Hellhound, CF face. This guy has a nice setup, the right tools, pleasant voice, clear footage... Keep it up!👍
Honestly I had my ultratech break on me because I was rapid firing a lot, which, obviously, microtech wouldn't have a contingency for. After I did it, I opened it up to see what part failed, and it was the L shaped hook/ bracket that hooks onto the spring and connects to the slider. I carefully reassembled it making sure I didn't lose any parts and then sent it back to microtech to fix, and then I got it back a week later. I feel like this is a big design flaw though because if I pay for a near $300 knife, I want it to be able to take abuse without a second thought. I literally had it for one week and probably fired it a thousand times, which is a lot to do in one week, but products that are truely great should be able to go through some stress testing of a far greater magnitude and still function completely fine.
I think you just got a lemon. that milled piece of metal looks pretty damn solid and could take a lot of abuse if machined right. Maybe your UT just had a defective part and your rapid firing only exposed the issue, not creating one.
Great video my friend thank you very much I needed that information you were a big help merry Christmas and stay safe my good friend cheers from Costa Mesa California
Yes. Run em dry, I used to have issues until I stopped lubing my OTFs.. maybe a small dab of grease on the spring to help with "spring sing" is all they need!
I purchased a Marfione Custom Combat Troodon to add to my Microtech collection which started with a Halo VI and I love it but the strength required to deploy the retract the blade was incredible before I disassembled it and smoothed things over. Microtech was amazing though and offered to pay for shipping for me to send it to them to have it looked at but I didn’t need to thankfully. Really cool knife the Combat Troodon.
I was at my local knife shop last Sat and checked out their newest CT, and it's a lil ridiculous how much smoother of deployment it was compared to mine. Mine was purchased in 2018
Would love to know if the standard Troodon is also beefier in size. I can't see the added cost over the Ultratech just being in the extra external milling.
The number one rule of inserting machine screws in aluminum is to first rotate them backward (counterclockwise) until you feel the screw "pop" in as the screw thread drops off the hole's thread. Then turn the screw clockwise. Those who just start cranking screws clockwise into aluminum will end up cross-threading and stripping out the hole...then blaming it on the manufacturer for not figuring out a way to stop a ham-fist from goobering it up.
Hey, Im about to buy the turquoise combat troodon hellhound, same as yours. Do you recommend that color and blade finish? does it get scratches really easily? Anything else you would say about it would be appreciated, thanks..
Someday I will have a Microtech. Either an Ultratech or a Combat Troodon. I think I like the handle a little better on the Troodon but the Ultratechs are easier to carry and they’re usually a little cheaper.
My utx85 spring will never stay on the chassis like yours does. Mine flies off if you don't hold it down which makes it a bitch to put back together. And I wish microtech would just send me a new spring instead of having to send my knife to them. Good upload!
For microtech OTF series knives, do I have to use anti rust oil every time if the knife gets dirty or if water gets into the handle after washing the knife after cutting fruit? Thank you.
Would you do a demo each type of OTF mechanism solution in one video, please? I've seen three but I'm sure there are many more! Maybe have a clear top scale so we can see the magic...🤔
Good video. Do you have any advice about how to make deploying an Ultratech any easier. I have heard some people say that lightly stretching the spring helps, but I have had just as many people say never to do that. Thanks -
I would be on the side of saying never do that it would work the trigger is tensioned by the spring but so is deployment of the blade not just from the aspect of possible damage it or voiding your warranty you would be lessening the deployment speed of the blades which would negatively effect reliability in an OTF I really don't have any solutions for that besides the smaller the knife the smaller the blade generally equates to lesser spring tension like the utx-70 or utx-85 maybe a bit easier to deploy
I bought a second spring off Etsy for like $12 shipped and stretched it. It helped a crap ton. But I recommend you buy a second one and modify it just in case you mess up or need to send it in for repair. My knife fired WAY to hard and hurt my thumb quite a bit.
The inside parts on the microtechs compared a $30 lighting OTF, the microtech looks a lot better made you can see the craftsmanship is a lot better and we'll thought out Also you could make a ASMR of knife disassembly
@@lefthandedknifeguy6437 yes it depends primarily on location in California and Balisongs are legal to own but not legal to carry on your person unless they are sub 2 inches in blade length that's California only legal to own not legal to carry is common with most States that prohibit the carry of automatics except Hawaii
I'm thinking about getting a jade shadow hellhound CT but it's a grand... I like to know if I pay a lot for a knife that I can always sell it if I need to get most my money back, but since the China thing the MT community is falling apart fast so I think I better hold off...
A few pieces of printer paper will make the knife come off track, so would a hand. BUT. The bayonet (which he has), spartan, double edge & tanto tip are so pointy that it would stick in your bone. You would have a hairline poke in your bone. I highly recommend you try it ! Stupidity always wins Stupid rewards! I used a steak for this scientific test. The tip (Microtech's modified tanto in this case) left a tiny hole in the bone. Just a little kiss from the Ultratech
Knives are tools though, Katana’s are pretty much useless collectors items nowadays. I’d easily spend $700 on a knife with a lifetime warranty than I would $400 on a Katana that has no use to me.
@@TheOfficialDaBoogaloo Yeah but for an OTF knife that has the structural integrity of a watermelon $720 is still a lot. I could buy 3 Mosin Nagants for that
Lugermonger, why would you want to take that Microtech combat troodon apart for, you know you just voided the limited lifetime warranty on it by doing so? And where did you obtain the properiety screw tool from, obviously microtech won't sell them to the public? They use those special screws for a reason so knuckle heads like you won't take them apart and tamper with the knives mechanisms or just have a curious wonder what it looks like inside. By the way that blue combat troodon looks like a Marfione custom knife, those customs knives ain't cheap and i would be afraid to take them apart.
How exactly does Microtech know he even opened it? And I’m pretty sure with right to repair laws they can’t void it just because you opened it. If you damage something that’s on you, but working on it pretty sure they can’t even if they say they can.
My Microtech (combat troodon) retracts (gos in) fine but literally won’t eject (come out) I’m about to just take it apart I have tried cleaning to no avail.. if you have an idea feel free to help (:
