Mandatory Background Check Delay Starts TODAY. 

I considered selling my weapons "back" to the government, but after a background check and thorough investigation into the buyer, I determined the buyer has a history of violence and is mentally unstable. Big risk to everyone around it.

A right delayed is a right denied.

Imagine if they were delayed from being a registered voter for those that try to register when they are 18, 19, 20. Voting Safety Act.

Odd thing 18-20 year olds can join the military, get issued all kinds of high end weaponry right away with no delays!

Those delays only apply to law abiding citizens. My guess is that criminals will be able to get their hands in guns with no wait time.

Eventually it will apply to all ages...tyranny never sleeps.

With the mental health, that's seriously discriminatory. The child victims of predators universally have some for of PTSD related anxiety and/or depression. If you see someone about it, under this law you are being being denied the right to effective self defense because you were raped and possibly trafficed. This is one of the most evil things to come out of Congress in years.

I'm 44 years old and the last 4 guns I bought here in California got delayed for 30 days which is BS any gun I bought before that never has been delayed, so to my opinion the DOJ is playing games with our rights and has been for a while here in California

I'm a FFL here in NC. any under 21 adults wanting to purchase. Go apply for your NC handgun purchase permits. (Gotta be 18 to get one) The county will grant you as many as you want. You can not use them at a ffl dealer for handguns(federal law to purchase handgun is 21) ..but the handgun purchase permit CAN also be used to exempt you from a NICS background check and you can use them for long guns. So get them now and hold onto them for future use!

A lawsuit is gonna be immediately filled just like the delay is immediately put into place

Texas had a similar provision in their “Constitutional Carry” law. A Federal Judge ruled that treating those 18, 19 or 20 differently under the law was unconstitutional. This one will easily get the same provision struct down for the same reasons.

A rule like this only incentivizes them to acquire a gun through an illegal way.

I'm 68. It took me 11 days delay in WA for my PCC . Picked it up last week. My record is spotless not even a traffic ticket and it took 11 business days Wtf...

Saw this happen the other day, kid had just turned 18 trying to buy a rifle and the lady at the counter told him his order was gonna be delayed a couple days, ridiculous.

This is just a step for stopping the rest of us later.

This actually started happening a short while ago... not only do they get automatic delays, but they also have to wait 10 days instead of 3-5.

I’m TIRED of being treated like a second class citizen. I’m trusted with million dollar equipment in the military yet I can’t: Drink, I can’t become an FFL, I can’t buy a suppresser, I can’t buy an SBR, I can’t buy a lower, I can’t even become an Uber driver!

But, the same people have no problem with sending this same age group in to harms way to fight some armed conflict or other. This kind of crap just burns my bacon.

Unfortunately in the state of Washington we have to wait 10 days no matter what your age is

Juvenile records are supposed to be sealed at age 18. The only exception I have heard of is whether or not there are reparations owed to a party that suffered harm from the juvenile.

Just bought an AR-10 .308. Took me a total of 30 days from purchase to bring the gun home. Last gun I bought in December of last year I walked out of the store with it same day.

Wait, so how is the federal government getting access to Juvenile records, as those are court order sealed after the age of 18. Also does HIPAA not exist anymore? How is the BATFE getting access to patient information without warrants and judge approval?

This has been an effect since November 19th... I did a gun show November 19th here in North carolina and I sold a 19 year old guy a 12 ga pump shotgun... this ADULT is still on delay...his Brady transfer date isn't until December 7th.....for a damn 12 ga pump.

Allowing this to happen is insanely dangerous.

I am certain those kids will not be angry and dangerous after the delay period!

How do they pass a law and just not know when it goes into effect?

The Peoples Republic of Illinois has a 72 hour wait no matter how old you are. And it really works you can see the results ...such a low crime rate.

One thing I have to say, I am very thankful that I and my doctors and social worker all forgot to get rated for PTSD. My VA social worker took really good care of me and deserves a lot of grattitude

I got delayed for Veterans Day on a purchase for a stripped lower. Had to wait until the store opened the next morning. That's the only time I've ever been delayed in 15 years.

I have been delayed every time I have ever bought a firearm. It makes me feel like a criminal and that the swat team is about to rush in from the back and 'take me down'. I've never been denied only delayed.

When it comes to firearm regulation, there is never a compromise or a negotiation involved. It is only more restriction rather than a little less restriction than what was initially proposed. A reasonable trade off might be something like a universally accepted pistol carry permit that like a driver's license (that gun grabbers always point to) Would be available and recognized to be acceptable in all 50 states. After all, what other constitutional right you can practice that is limited to only certain states and could get you arrested simply crossing state lines?

That's like about Arizona. An Arizona citizen can open or conceal without permit, but only in the state o Arizona. If you have a concealed carry permit issued in Arizona, it is honored in either 31 or 37 states.

This check actually started weeks ago. I have personally filed out forms resulting in immediate delays because of under the age of 21 in the last several of weeks

I live in Ohio and just turned 20 and tried to get my 3rd rifle today and got delayed, this is so unconstitutional, we didn’t win are freedom from the British by going into juvenile records (I have a spotless record BTW) when my FFL told me I was delayed I felt like puking because I never did anything wrong, thanks for clearing that up

If it's allowed to go on it'll be extended to everyone, like in CA where it's a minimum 10 day for everyone and sometimes extended much longer.

It started the 14th… NICS gives a normal 3 business day delay with a normal Brady date. Then after that Brady date they update NICS with the new 10 day Brady date. So it is a 13 business day waiting period.

Bought my first AR last week and went to pick it up on the 29th and got automatically placed on 10 day delay. Only a month away from turning 21 as well :(

Today I got my first ever delay. I'm 20, and bought guns when I was 18 and 19 and was able to walk out with them the same day. Unbelievable

That is only part of the problem. There is now a law that says ANYBODY who gets delayed automatically gets reported to local law enforcement, which means at the very least means that their name gets put on a list of potential criminals. I have NO criminal record, yet I have been delayed THREE times over the past several years. So this law ends my buying guns from FFLs. Fortunately I know several people who are into guns, and are constantly buying, selling, and trading used guns as personal sales. if I want to buy a gun, it's likely I can find something I want through a private sale. I am a registered Republican. I can't help but wonder if that had anything to do with the delays??

We had that in Oklahoma for years now especially on handguns but I was at a gun store yesterday with my brother and they were doing a background check on a guy he said normally it takes about 5 minutes for his checks to come back this day had been waiting for over 5 hours to get the background check back

this is just going to keep people from seeking mental health related help that they need

I need a lawyer... I bought my first firearm online through Cabela's. I have no criminal record, no military stuff, no mental or drug abuse, Born and raised in America etc. Yet it's been 60 days now. I get delayed, and then after 30 days, they say it expired. No proceed or denied. I was not even checked. The 2nd amendment clearly states my right to a firearm shall not be infringed upon. How many more months will I just get put on the shelf delayed with no results? It's a horrible first experience to say the least..

This law went into effect on November 10th of 22. They are now allowed to go into their juvenile record and medical records.

I just had this happen to a kid today at my FFL.

I work for an ffl and we had 23 extended delays from black Friday alone it's insane the other thing is we have to submit the address of the Individual

It’s been in affect sense the 14 of November I bought a zastava m70 and am on a 12 day wait.

I'm 67, a vet and I have been delayed for almost 3 weeks and still waiting

I’m a licensed carrier in Florida with my concealed weapons license no felonies and my background check has been pending for 2 weeks now after I tried to purchase a gun. Called they said they can’t give me a reason and all I can do is wait.

Why do we still allow the government to make rules without going through Congress.

It's not just 18,19,20 yr Olds I am 44 yro. I've had an extended delay now for almost 3 was and this isn't my first firearm purchase. Nothing has changed in my background and the last purchase I was in and out in about 35 min.

We had 3 delays yesterday due to this bill. Super frustrating for the customer buying their first rifle and frustrating for the shop that has to explain this issue to the customer.

I can confirm that its not just people under 21 getting delayed. Everyone that I ran yesterday was delayed immediately and they required more info on every last BGC. Ive never seen a BGC delay in NICS that required me to add more info like address. Not happy about this one bit so Ive been also trying to get my customers to get a CWP

Now the background notification act also is in place so any delay or denial is immediately given to atf and local law enforcement for and investigation

Here in Texas I have always gotten my firearm the same day as when I go to buy one . Our state is run by Republicans and not communist Democrats .

Currently going through this. I’m 18. I walked in and out the same day closer to when I turned 18 with an AR 15. Now I went in to buy a hunting rifle and I got delayed. Been delayed for a about a week in a half now.

And when a person is delayed a drop down box appears to enter the delayed person's address. The echeck search request will not close until you enter the address.

Cabela's started that 2 weeks ago. I know, because I ran the NICS on the 18 yo and it took 30 seconds for the form to go DELAY. It did not proceed in the 3 days, not sure how many days it took. I'm confused that you're saying it starts Nov 31 - when Cabela's/Bass Pro started that at least 2 weeks ago. If you've ever bought a firearm for Cabela's or Bass Pro they have their own rules and a proprietary electronic form.

A young man who just turned 21 said something about buy a gun he saw. He’s a nice “kid” with a history of drug use over a year ago and mental depression and recently a 72hr hold at a hospital….. He nice kid who was really failed by the Arizona foster system where he was physically abused and got into drugs. He’s trying as hard as he can to make his life better. It was an act of God to get him a copy of his birth cert, a new social security card and Florida ID,, took 3 months and a trip to CVS pharmacy because they had access to all his medical records … From Arizona etc. CVS or any other medical places apparently have world wide access to our medical records and are the only ones who can say you exist if you lose your birth cert, SS card and ID….. Neither the Florida DMV and license office nor the social security office would recognize him as a person until he had an affidavit from strangers he met on the internet and a letter from a private medical office saying he is who he is and you can’t use your birth certificate to prove you are you past the date of your birth according to the social security office. The so called hospital I took him to when he was depressed sent him to another hospital 43 miles away who then dumped him out on their doorstep 3 days later with no way to get back to his tent if he’d still been living in it. Fortunately I had pulled him out of the tent and into my home the day hurricane Ian hit and I was able to go get him. He’s a nice kid and I told him he can’t buy a gun because the system that’s supposed to help has screwed him over. I also will not let him shoot any real guns as long as he feels like he feel’s because the system that is supposed to help has damaged him too much and it simply isn’t safe for him. By trying to control an uncontrollable world the people who think they are somehow helping have so far ruined this young man’s life. He’s only one person. How many others are there?

I’m 52 and been on delay for 4 months! I’d be better off buying from someone in an ally because doing it the legal way isn’t working!

I’m over 30 years of age, have bought multiple firearms this year with my UPIN. As of right now I’m on my second day of delay with no response. I don’t think there is an age limit on this. I think it’s more like all ages.

I don't know if it was Nationwide but in Indiana it took effect November 14th. My son tried purchasing a Ruger hunting rifle on Black Friday and was put on this mandatory hold. He has past three background checks in the last 12 months for concealed carry, a job with the county, and his CDL. We are on day 8 without any response. Because of the delay he was denied the $60 off Black Friday special. I have contacted my Senators my attorney general and my state police everyone keeps passing the buck nobody is helping figure out why this is taking so long with absolutely nothing in his background to Warrant it

i always hit delays when i purchase and idk why. its super annoying. i usually have to wait a week for the brady law to kick in. weird

"think of the children" "muh mental health" that's how it starts...the reason it only applies to 18-20yr olds is because it's only a stepping stone towards all ages which itself is a stepping stone to complete ban. here in sweden they banned several types of firearms from being issued new licenses. but all the people (mostly very old men) that owned one could keep theirs. why? well so they wouldnt cause a political problem. because most people think "as long as I have my gun..."

They are just encouraging self-made firearms. No one is delaying 3d printers....

Almost every background check I've done since Nov 1 has gotten a delay. Probably half of those delays go unanswered for 30 days. I feel like it's on purpose.

I'm 36 years old and have been delayed every single time I have purchased a gun from an ffl for my entire life. I have no criminal history whatsoever, Concealed carry permit holder. I don't get it.

I was going to finish paying of my lever gun tomorrow and I’m 19 dose that mean I just don’t get it.

I'm in California so have been dealing with the 10 day wait for a rather long time. I don't have any issues with a waiting period for first time buyers, but it's damn annoying to have to go through that every damn time, as if yet another 9mm pistol will make any difference.

I live in the shitty state of Illinois. I have been waiting since September 22 for my FOID card.
