In this video I talk about the final boss fight, some pitfalls I encountered when fighting this boss as well as the strategy I ended up using to beat the final boss. I also go over what happens if you take too long to beat it and why the map begs you to kill the boss as soon as possible.

I felt it to be super anticlimactic when I was able to kill him in his first shield drop after killing 4 dark emblems. They built it up like wow there’s a dark emblem to match all 12 rings we have but then I just didn’t even get to 8 of them

They should have made so every time you take a health bar a new wave of dark emblems spawned, and then have no infinite reinforcements, but every dark emblem wave have their own set of reinforcements.

@@uchihajunior5648the reinforcements on this map were often more difficult to defeat than the boss himself let alone the dark emblems . I’ve never gotten past 4 emblems on maddening. For a while I thought it was just unbeatable on my save without like perfect rng or something. Then I realized I could do damage to him if a few of the emblems were defeated. Suddenly I was able to beat the boss in like 5 turns max. Engage has chronic reinforcement-itis and it’s a grand shame because otherwise the base game would have been so good

@@chrisc4208 i actualy like the reinforcements, they make the players take riskier strategies and not only play safe constantly, it helps on the adrenalyn rush, wich is why the base maps are so... engaging... I didn't try to make that pun it just came out naturaly, anyway... What i actualy want to complain about is the dlc, the only problem with the dlc is... they give exp... this breaks the game balence so shockingly, really you can reach chapter 5 with levels you'd only have in chapter 10 or more, everyone becomes broken thanks to that, if i don't go out of my way to gain as little exp as possible when playing the dlc (warp strats) my characters become basicaly invincible, especialy ivy and pannette.

I had no idea the reinforcements got that bad I just made sure he died the moment shields went down to this being the final boss, I just had 3 units crit him while doubling to kill with corrins debuff

Honestly, I never feel bad for speed running the end game. There's no levels after that, so EXP doesn't matter. I did the same for Takumi in Fates. I will agree though, it makes the final battle less fun.

The final map was surprisingly easy on maddening. Even managed to 1 turn Sombron. Compared to let's say Golden Deer or Black eagles final map, this was a walk in the park. Especially Nemesis was absurdly powerful on maddening. Ferdihad was on another level. That Mission without warp abuse is a gauntlet of suffering.

I weirdly found all of 3H end game on maddening super easy outside of Blue Lions SKIP ONLY run finale. Silver Snow Skip Only wasn't that bad though.

@@IcedCoffeeGaming I still remember my first black eagles maddening run. I tried for an entire weekend to beat the final map and just couldn't do it. In the end I threw the towel and admitted that my entire build sucked. So I redid the entire run and optimised the entire thing from beginning to the end to the best of my ability.

1st maddedning blind run: FInal Boss took me 5 hours with eating breaks. It was way harder than it needed to be for me. During the gradlon arc, I decided that I didn't care if a unit that wasn't a hard carry died, so I had 2 open deployment slots that ended up going to untrained Pandreo and Lindon for their staff and thunder utility. During the final boss itself, many people died, and it felt very dramatic and good. I probably could have piloted it where nobody died, but this is the final battle. The narrative has the characters already willing to die fighting in this battle. It was fun.

When I did this map I think I accidentally cheesed it. I had killed the first 3 emblems and almost killed the 4th. I then finished off the 4th at the start of my next turn with a weaker unit, leaving basically my entire team to still have actions once the shield went down. I then proceeded to dancer/byleth one turn kill the boss. 😂

I actually liked the experience I had playing this map blind (I defeated all 12 bosses!) but I will say it's a little disappointing for the reasons you explain in the video. Thracia's final map is basically this ones but actually realized in a way that worked and is satisfying to complete.

I agree it’s a bad map. On my blind maddening run I think I took 5 hours to beat this (I didn’t have any proper carries, couldn’t one round anything, I’d just die to reinforcements). I think what I found frustrating was it didn’t feel like a cool tactical challenge, it was more a raw damage check and that was obnoxious, since you can hardly pivot at that point if you haven’t built your team the ‘right’ way.

I finally got to this fight last night on hard/classic and for some reason I thought I was done when I finally beat the first eight dark emblems. (Probably because there are only eight emblem icons on the map.) When four more showed up I was so tired of slowly working around the map and taking forever to kill all the reinforcements and eventually getting another dark emblem down. So I time traveled back to when I had defeated 7 of them, with the 8th still waiting. Then I just cheesed the map with my unstoppable Yunaka/Corrin cloud combo being unhittable. She whittled the boss down and debuffed him so many times that I had the rest of the team jump in on the last 100 hp. I agree - this was not a very good final boss battle.

When I did this map I did it not the LTC way and on hard mode I found out putting a unit on the sigil would only spawn the emblem boss and not the 2 reinforcements. Ended up with positioning units so that my damage carries would take down one health bar while 4 units sat on the spawn points with the rest of the squad in support mode. I think in all my attempts it took 5+ hours and the clear itself took 1 hr 59 mins. Next playthrough I plan on LTCing this map because it was such not a good time

my first playthru i played the boss properly and it was fun, then i learned how to play the game and can one round it after the first shield break i think this is good game design because it rewards smarter gameplay when you actually know what you are doing in the game and has the player play the boss the intended way on your first playthrough

Hahaha same. This took me like 2 hours first go. I killed 12 emblems I believe and was scared to death because I almost ran out of rewinds and didn’t wanna spend another 2 hours. 2nd play through I destroyed it and it was one of my faster maps.

i think after 80 hrs of blind playthrough of classic maddening, its taking a toll on my head so finishing it early was a lifesaver for me (at least for my sanity). But I will try to give it a shot on seeing all the Dark Emblems on the next playthrough. I also broke my Panette since I saved for Lunar Brace while on Ike ring and her Brave Axe atks are double 30x2 (120 dmg) after poison and hex. (I also used Entrap on the first phase since i really wanted to sleep that night).

I had like 100+ hrs LMAO tbh most of it was probably doing useless somniel tasks. But still I just wanted to finish the game so I was glad it was fairly easy

Quick question I just finished the game on maddening. I know there is no game plus , but I want to level up characters I didn't use . Is there a way or is going to be har because skirmish are advance level 19 ??

There aren't a lot of skirmishes but if you invest in any unit you want to try out they will generally be viable.

I just got to this map a couple of days ago and have probably put 5 or more hours into it, so I came to check this video out. I'm going to have to be more aggressive with warps and such I guess. My first attempt I got the shield down but only chipped one health bar off of Sombron before the shield went back up, I don't think I had enough units ready to pound him. I also expected the shield to be down for more than one freaking round! I'm really curious, after more playthroughs, do you still feel like this boss fight is a really bad fight?

On my 2nd maddening run it wasn't nearly as bad, I had stronger units but on my blind run it was nutty. On both I had to warp and 1 turn the boss after killing all emblems, this seems to be the best way to kill him

Yeah, even on hard, the flier reinforcements that start coming in are insane if you don't kill him by like turn 10. He just spawns four more emblems with two enemies each on the turn after you kill the first four emblems, that ALSO respawn if you don't kill the emblems fast enough so you just start getting snowballed because the fliers are crazy strong especially if you aren't running a ton of bows and/or have a weak bow unit like late game Fogado

I killed 7 of the emblems and left the bottom one that only spawned healers. then I had two groups to deal with the wyvern spawning in every round. Finally Louis was strong enough to do significant damage to the final boss with a shield while not taking damage himself so I just broke all his extra lives then killed the final dark emblem and took the final boss down. cheesed the hell of it

Honestly I felt the final map was really easy, MUCH easier than the second-to-last map. The problem is that bonded Alear you get effective fell dragon damage and FRIENDSHIP BLAST (tm) will trivialize him. He can't counter, there's no chance of it missing, you get to use it TWICE. FRIENDSHIP BLAST will just remove two of his healthbars and then you have your entire team left to remove the last one. If you have any weapons that do effective dragon damage Alear will make them do effective fell dragon damage. He just ends up taking so much damage from everything you're doing.

Didn't know things got so bad, my first time facing him on hard mode I was able to take him out on turn 3, immediately after breaking his shield.

I used only the same 14 units throughout the entire playthrough so all my ppl were doing fantastic stat wise, and I just killed 2 emblems in one turn, 1 in the next turn, then the last and Sombron the 4th. Even the first phase, I entrapped Sombron and killed him with 3 units turn one. I do kinda wish the boss was hard af like conquest Takumi was for me.

I just did my 2nd run where I had more hard carries and it was WAY EASIER. Some of my first run units were very bad lmao

(This was from my first playthrough: hard, classic) It took a while, but my alear got good stats so i killed 3 emblems and got to chip away at his health bars with my dodge tank build Alear with elixirs incase alear got hit

Yeah this map has a really weird duality in that its incrediably easy if you just make sure to leave one of the dark emblems low so you can finish it off and then gang bang Sombron with your entire army. On the other hand if you actually wait and fight all 12 dark emblems the fight is absolutely insane. The reinforcements start ramping up to 2 per dark emblem still up every 3 turns and 3 flyers or thieves every other turn. Combined with their near max stats on maddening it becomes insanely hard to push through all of them. Especially those damn griffin knights. 156 avoid X.X

Had a really hard time with this boss on my all backup team. my entire strategy I've been using the whole game just went out the window.

I beated final boss with ivy using dragon fists from engaging with alear and one shoted him. They do 116dmg . But i have no idea how to beat it without DLC or ivy ahahha... And i dont think you are suppose to beat other 8 dark emblems idk it just makes no sance

I tried for like 3 hours the first time and then realised how the shield worked. Restarted and immediately 3-turned it.

@Iced Coffee Gaming also discovered that thief isn't really best class for yunaka. Believe it or not I believe it's sword master. Her personal skill isn't exclusive to covert so she can still fog and bush camp and still get a crit bonus and swords typically have higher natural Mt than knives so unless you need ranged attacks she's probably going to be better at sword master. Only reason why I didn't say axe classes for yunaka tho is she relies alot on speed and cover and I don't know any axe classes that have a high speed cap that doesn't fly.
