I love your explanation for skill being a fun factor. People don't seem to get, why they're hyped when they do a quarter mile in a DCT...without the control and skill factor it's just an expensive rollercoaster ride
For real! Definitely fun to experience a fast car. But after a while it becomes so routine. The manual is always something you have to work for. It’s fun to keep learning better skills
This is something I've chatted in-depth about with friends and the younger generation on and this is the overall take I have. If you are a car enthusiast it doesn't matter what type of trans you have as long as you are passionate about your car and are willing to learn. However for those folks that argue they are a driving enthusiast, unless they are going for balls to the wall max performance, if they are driving an auto I'll look at them kind of funny, because as mentioned Manual does offer that connected driving experience that I dare say most driving enthusiast look for. At the end of the day being able to do both will benefit anyone greatly and its a shame one is being fazed out. Especially if you go to any other country (outside of North America), and there is an emergency situation chances are the vehicle will be manual and knowing how to drive one will open up so many more things you can do in general. This all coming from someone who just purchased a Mustang GT/CS in manual in January.
I got a 30-minute commute of heavy traffic to and from work that can be reduced to 20 minutes if I weave traffic well. I need to be able to hit openings and accelerate continuously until I need to slow down quickly. I'm plenty of a car enthusiast but not enough to do that 5 days a week in a manual. I don't buy cars to sit them in garages, so I need something that can be my daily and double as a pavement smoking missile when I want. For that brother, I choose the automatic. When I retire and just drive for fun, I will switch back to manual.
@@adamappell1212 So normally I'd agree with these type of situations, but I personally had zero issues when I was temporarily working in Chicago. This might be a thing of a lot of newer cars just coming with a waaaayyy lighter clutch compared to older cars (there is a significant difference) but I digress. We all have our preferences. I'm simply just using my experience in my personal S550 Mustang (which is still somehow stock) vs friends cars which are older and have a short throw and feel like you go to leg day every single time you get in the thing.
@Tikbalang5.0 Well, I'm glad that you are having a blast with your GT my brother, but it sounds like to me we are just on opposite ends of the seesaw. I've owned and driven 5 manuals in the last 15 years. It sounds like you are new to the stick gang. I no longer feel the rush from hitting gears or need the feeling that I'm controlling every aspect of my acceleration. I'm just in a period of my life where I care more about the drive experience than I do driver engagement. In fact, I almost bought a sporty Cadillac instead of my current 5.0. In the end, though, I still need to hear that gorgeous V8 roar.
I've got to agree with you that it is all about personal preference. There are people on both sides of the fence saying the other is wrong. "Why buy a manual? The auto has superior performance." Or, "Why not buy a manual? Didn't you learn to drive properly?" Both are wrong. You should just buy the car that suits your needs. It makes no sense to put someone down for buying the car they wanted.
I had the stock 2017 Ford Mustang GT as a 10-speed automatic and that thing was just fast. I’d floor that pedal and it would just go. But i can admit it was just fun, no skill. I now have a 2015 Ford Mustang GT as a manual 6-speed supercharged Roush Stage 2. This is the best car I’ve ever had in my life. All the skills I am learning while driving and racing my 750 HP car are unforgettable. Wish I could’ve tried a supercharged automatic Mustang though! That would also be fun!
Depends. If you're using the car for a daily drive, then automatic is better. But if you want a more immersive driving experience, then manual is the way to go.
A manual is definitely more engaging but also can be more stressful when on a hill and someone is right on your rear end! Hill assisted manuals are a big improvement plus using your emergency brake makes driving more exciting. Daily driving my Miata is great even with an automatic. It’s still lots of fun with nimble handling and terrific steering!
2021 gt convertible, triple black, black wheels with red caliper covers and black style bar. Sounds soo good with top down. Super charger is next. Fun car now though.
Driven both and the manual in stock form is noticeably slower. It's the gears in the rear or the lack of 4 other gears in the trans. 1st gear in the manual feels like 2nd. I felt like I was taking off in 3rd and kept looking for first in the manual. I've had a 86 manual for over 20 years. It's definitely went full circle. The newer mustangs are definitely more fun and faster with an automatic.
Sure, any automatic is faster than a manual, that's a given, but there's more engagement with a manual in general...but it just depends on what the buyer will enjoy.
@@Travos69 id still take a 24 manual over the auto…not everything is about speed. A few milliseconds slower for a more engaging drive is what I’d prefer.
@BrosFOURRSpeed ya but if on a budget u will find yourself replacing things on a manual u wouldn't need to on an auto. Rear gears and a shifter are on my immediate wishlist.
I think the key difference for me is to get enjoyment out of an automatic you have to go out of your way to throttle up, otherwise at normal speeds its boring. With a manual you can find enjoyment at normal speeds.
If you are used to drive manuals and enjoy it, then definitely a manual, even in stop-and-go traffic. 460 hp is more than enough for street use, I find it silly to add a supercharger...
Most likely the E-Gear. Manual is a lot more expensive and puts that out of budget. I do like the single clutch tho. Very engaging and old school feeling
All depends on skills man, if you’re gonna push a car to compare vs an automatic you have to know the correct speed to start a rolling and at what gear, obviously you have a slow shift compare at how the transmission can do it.
No manual can shift as fast as an automatic. No human can move the ever as quick as the computers do. But depends on what type of driving you like. I enjoy the manual for a car like this. But some like the quicker lap times in the auto
@@BrosFOURRSpeed im not saying that he’s gonna shift like an automatic does, im just saying his shift is slow if he wants to feel the real power of the car
Weather its a mustang , challenger/charger , Camaro if you buy a automatic, stop racing in manual mode , you got an auto so live with it , your not shifting as fast as the car could shift itself. If you really wanted to control your shifts should of got manual. That being said I could never buy an auto muscle car that’s just me.
Yeah very good point! Auto mode was more fun in this car too. These cars really only seem fun for me in the manual. European cars with DCT or ZF autos are a different story
Yeah the ZF shifts much quicker and definitely lets the engine sound more distinctive between each gear. I'm not a fan of the 10 speed. If the Mustang had the ZF, the auto would be more fun. But I definitely love the manual in these cars!
Do these ones have transmission problems like the 2011-2017? I was about to buy a mustang with the 3.7L V6 but then my mechanic told me about a really serious problem with both automatic and manual MT82 transmissions that is very expensive to address and replacing the transmission doesn't solve it, because Ford will install another defective transmission.
idk... ive had three manual gt mustangs ('95, '12, and '18). i think the more recent years of this car is built for the auto and these things are so good these days. bmw and mercedes are moving away from manual and even DCT and opting to equip their cars with autos. i feel like auto lets you take more advantage of what this car is capable of (which is what i want if im paying today's prices). i like long road trips and MT does get tiring when you have to break cruise control to shift. plus i can have co-drivers (my gf) take over when i get tired. im not against manual but would probably get one in something more like a gr86, miata, or boxter where driving "feel" is more a part of the experience. if i had the budget, I would get a darkhorse or mach 1 with the manual and then have another GT PP1 with auto. but for that money, im probably looking at a 911 or M4 instead.
Yeah there are some great benefits with both. In my Supra I can actually shift while cruise control is on and the cruise doesn't turn off. Never thought a manual could do that. But nice to see the Supras cruise control stay working while shifting. I like the manuals for the fun factor since my Supra isn't a daily. But it's nice for people who daily their sportscar to have the auto but can use the paddles for extra fun. Both transmissions these days offer a lot. Nice to have a quick auto and truly experience all of the power uninterrupted. But also fun to be more engaged with the manual
For drag racing the auto will definitely give you better times. But the manual is the way to go for me. So much more fun and you learn to become a better driver in a manual!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed better times maybe a little bit nothing out of this world, the problem is kids don't wanna learn a manual. Like everything else wants easy Street stuff 😉
Very true! There is a shift lately of more people not wanting manual. Sad to see. People seem to like cars based on numbers on paper rather than the real fun factor of driving
When it comes to mustangs and specifically these mustangs where the whole point is maxing out performance and speed, 10 speed automatic is the way to go.
Love my 6 speed. My buddies thought i was crazy not to get the 10 speed but i didnt fet it for street racing. I just wanted something fun to drive! Can't wait to get my supercharger next!
I drove manual for 35 years and loved it, but now I'm in my 50s and don't want to be shifting gears all the time. These modern autos are pretty nice and I'm not missing my old manuals at all.
Proud of you! You didn't stay stupid shit in this video. Very well done! TU! Love my 6-sp manual 800hp Whipple'd Mustang GT! Which, btw, I highly recommend Nitto 555R2 DR's for safe traction on the street. I have them in 305/35/20's on Project 6GR wheels and it hooks quite well.
@@joshgalka9414 better is subjective. Sure auto is faster. But manual is more engaging. Funner (imo). Manual also retains their value better. Manual r8 is worth more than an auto. There's a reason European Auto Group has a service to convert autos to manual. People want their manuals!
Crank or wheel HP? I'm a standard transmission guy, but as you said the autos are very good and are faster. Replacement cost or repair is a LOT more money with an automatic.
I'm sold. When you first reviewed the auto I never imagined or thought I would being seeing so much joy and smiles coming out of you driving the manual. I will be going for the manual. Thanks for this video.
