Man I really liked you concise and accurate assessment of this watch. You did this watch justice. I’m a veteran and I only wish that I’d been issued this watch during my service. Although I was Army, I have the Marine issue. (I don’t mind) I wear this watch with the same confidence as a Rolex and prefer it. It’s indestructible.
I’ve watched a lot of videos on this watch from some “big name” RU-vidrs and I must say, this video is right up there in quality and information! I just ordered this watch with the Arctic White dial. Looking forward to getting it and putting it into action. Excellent video review sir, keep up the great work!
Got mine since 4 years(gsar 41mm). The crown went bugging after only one year so I had to make it fixed with parts from ebay. Bought the US gov. version. I wouldn't go for any other watch than this one. These are very good daily watches that last long. Marathon watches are so underrated...
Thanks for the review. I own a dive shop and have been considering this for my first mechanical dive watch so I watch every video I can on it. How long have you had it?
I've actually moved on from this piece. As I've mentioned in my video, the minute and hour hands were too similar. I sometimes had trouble telling the time when looking at it from an angle. Other than that, it's rock solid and I might say, looks better when it's all scratched up.
I’m trying to figure out how you’re doing the pins to change the straps out 😂 I have a small wire thing that came with a pressure washer to clean the tiny nozzle head and just push in each side from the outside of the lug being they’re drilled through… putting them back on, I just put one side in and press the other side in with my thumb nail (no my nails aren’t grossly long) 😂
I was wondering many people hate on Ginault for the price, and I've heard get a marathon instead etc. Since you have seen both brands what do you think, do people have a point or just opinion?
First time I’m hearing about cross shopping a Ginault with Marathon. However, I do think Ginault edges the Marathon by a bit. Both have good level of fit and finish for the price. Ginault has an awesome clasp adjustment system while Marathon has traditional micro adjustment holes on a stamped clasp. I didn’t like the hands on the GSAR. I sometimes mistaken the minute and hour hand together. The bezel action on the Ginault is a lot better too. As I’m writing this, I realized Ginault is definitely the better watch. The hate comes from their alleged shady past. If brand history is important to you, go with Marathon. If not, my choice is the Ginault Silent Service, but you can’t go wrong either way.
@@BrokeWatchFanatic sadly even the used ones I'm finding aren't much cheaper than just buying new. I'm in Australia as well so there doesn't seem to be many in the wild over here. I'm a Canadian tho, so this watch has some heritage for me as well. I'll find one one day :D
@@BrokeWatchFanatic thanks very much for the info, that happens to be the same size range as my wrist so that’s really handy, now I can watch again with a more clearer idea of how it would wear on me, thanks very much indeed 😁👍🏻
Great review! Can anyone tell me the weight of this watch without watchband or braclet? I don't like heavy watches on my wrist so the weight is an important number for me to buy it or not. Thanks!
@@BrokeWatchFanatic Thanks, everything over 100 g is to heavy for me. I think the Marathon is in this range, but the question is bit more or bit less than 100 g? ;-)
@@BrokeWatchFanatic If i am not mistaken, the price increased of Marathon watches was in Jan. 2022, well before the ugly head of high inflation showed up. For all intend and purpose, it used the same materials (SS) (exception of tritium) and movement as a Squale 1521, Glycine combat sub. or any number of Swiss made watches and they did not inflate be 20-30 percent in the past 12 months. I feel they are trying to follow Seiko's path to go upscale. At least Seiko offer new products before increasing their prices.
It doesn't wear as big as you'd think. On paper it sounds massive... We have the same size wrist, and when worn surprisingly it doesn't look rediculous. The bracelet is a pain to size though.
