Adding some moss can really help with those requiring more moisture.

Michael you bring such a smile to my face when I watch your videos and you just goes to show that rules are meant to be broken as far as these orchids are concerned none of the rules really hold fast and true keep doing what you’re doing we love your progress and your videos please keep them Coming. Have a wonderful day

I really appreciate your continuing posts Michael 🥰 have you tried simply sizing up your pots? I have a few which needed a very roomy pot in bark medium to really thrive.

Thanks Michael. I love that you have had such great results with your change to orchid bark. The pots and other care just add to it. I would like to see how your wedding day phals do in the swap over in the future. 😄🇭🇲

I have only 2 orchids. I don't know who they are but they were struggling so I converted them to semi-hydroponics because of your influence. I came back today to see what I should do about all the algae in my containers. One of my plants is in full bloom, the other is not. The one in bloom has smooth, chubby pseudo-bulbs. The other one, the pseudo-bulbs are full but not as hubby. I now see you are converting from semi-hydo to bark. I don't think I'll convert the bloomer but may convert the other and see if it blooms.

Phals really do love classic medium. I will sometimes leave mine to soak in a bowl with dilute nutrients for a day or two, get the medium really waterlogged. They seem to prefer moist over dry, bark over anything else.

I struggled keeping my Phal and Phrag moist in bark until I put it in a self watering pot. It keeps water out of the crown and I can track the water availability readily.

if you're struggling to cope with waterings for your oncidiums, just add a touch of sphagnum moss to the mix and that's it ;)

Purple leaves are from excess light causing anthocyanin production, but purple isn’t necessarily bad as long as you aren’t frying it.

Please put a bit of spaghnum in your drier pots that you have transitioned to bark . It’ll hold moisture a little longer in the ones that need more water. Eventually all your babies will be able to be watered at about the same time instead of worrying so much. Obviously the natural medium is what most, if not all is what they’ll all do best in. I won’t have to scream (lol) at your presentations anymore! 😂 Love the progress!!!!

Love your plants, my rene marquis bloomed , i had read that if you dont cut the flower spike off after bloom it will bloom again ,so i just cut behind the blooms and it is sending out new blooms from that spot . Love your channel

I haven’t really had any luck with semi hydro. Another thing that might be happening is that semi hydro cools the roots down quicker than regular moss and bark mix so that could be a possibility? Since moss and bark continuously break down while evaporation happens the break down still heats up a bit whereas lecca just evaporate and cools.

It isn't uncommon for the leaves to be red on the Sergioara, it comes from the Epidendrum pseudepidendrum lineage. You will see it in other hybrids, like Rene Marques, as well.

For your wedding day phal comparison, your SH phal has most of its root system in the air so of course it's going to be dehydrated...?
@lucythecat529

I agree Daniel. The newer active roots are all in the air. The roots in the vase are probably not working at all to hydrate the plant.

Does this mean that you’ll be changing your approach when it comes to disinfecting and preventative measures with your plants?
