This brave woman is standing alone -- against the press, against the establishment, against the courts. And I might say that she's won my admiration -- for her honesty, discretion and courage. Where the hell is her deadbeat Duke ex-husband? Is he facing the press, telling the truth? What a coward! He`s had the entire establishment babying him and protecting him, even the courts! Disgraceful! It puts the courts, the media and the establishment in the WORST light. Now we know they are not impartial. Now we know they will defend losers. Now we know they cannot hold to the truth, which ever way it turns out. Again, where is the Duke? Cannot he stand up for himself, tell the truth? Need the courts to bludgeon your wife for you, eh? Coward! Revolting! If the establishment (courts, aristocracy, media) has to protect him so, that alone should raise profound suspicions about those three institutions. A lot of suspicions. The courts, the media, the establishment -- beating up a defenseless woman -- very gallant! And the strongest proof of their perfidy! Margaret, Duchess of Argyll has won the war, as did Diana!
I saw one her later interviews. Her comment on the 88 possible adultery candidates : she laughed and said. "How ridiculous. I mean really. I wouldnt have had the time!!" The Duchess had that something that seems to have largely passed into the pages of society history. In one word. "Panache".
Very interesting topic. Before I saw your video, I read about her today, as I never heard of her before. Her life was certainly not boring 😉. Thank you
Thanks for the very interesting video, Jon! I had never heard of her before. Looks like Claire Foy is playing her in the movie of the Duchess's life...? I must look for it! She was certainly way ahead of her time!
@@ladyagnes9430 It looks like there is. Per HistoryExtra: "New BBC drama A Very British Scandal will catapult viewers into a vicious society divorce battle that saw one woman’s reputation raked over in the 1960s tabloids." That was in 2021. Looks like we are late to the game, lol!
Lady Colin Campbell seemed to like her well enough. She's not one to hold too much back, especially when Margaret was long deceased when she made the comment regarding her "step mother-in-law." No stranger to scandal, I'm sure she could sympathize with how Margaret was treated by the court and the press.
There was only one Polaroid camera in the UK at the time. It was being assessed by the then Minister of Aviation. One Duncan Sandys, Tory MP who was married to Churchills daughter. He was introduced to her by Douglas Fairbanks an American actor - and the other person in the photographs. It is likely that he was blackmailed to cancel the Fairey Rotodyne - a far superior military transport aircraft than the Boeing Chinook which had just been developed for US army with a hope for world-wide sales. Fairbanks was in fact an OAS agent during world war 2 and ideally suited to the role. 4:59
She was really born in the wrong century. Women that marry into the Campbell family do not seem to have good luck. Lady Colin Campbell is a wonderful woman who was divorced by her husband due to her gender problem from birth.
I'm sure the Duke had his transgressions too. Still, women get treated unequally with these things. Silly woman shouldn't have had her face visible in the ye olde selfie 🤳 though!
