Marty Robbins - Devil Woman. 1964 Live Recording from "Country Style" Australia. Never shown on TV anywhere. Recorded by Channel 7, ATN in those days, for some reason the show was never put to air.
Marty could sing any songand it would be the greatest. I' still listening to MARTY IN 2022 AND I'LL KEEP LISTENING. I NEVER GET TIRED OF MARTY ROBBINS..
Marty's voice was outstanding in i'ts singularity. It was instantly recognized, so beautiful and distinctive.A vocal talent that was a step above his contemporaries, IMHO.What a treasure of songs did he create for our ongoing listening pleasure, that..indeed...Never grows old...RIP Marty....db
Can't think of another song about giving up an affair and going back to a forgiving wife. that Robbins delivers it so earnestly and so smoothly only gives it more impact. amazing
I think Conway Twitty's "Linda on my mind" talks about lusting for a friend of his wife, and the struggle of dealing with his lust. Both songs are in the top 50 of greatest country songs.
That was not a yodel. He just briefly pitched his voice into "falsetto." Yodeling is when a singer switches to falsetto while constantly quivering his or her voice for at least several beats, but usually for full phrases.
Robbins got some of his ideas for ballads from listening to his grandfather tell stories of his years as a Texas Ranger. A WWII vet, he served during the Battle of the Solomon Islands in the Pacific. What a great live performance. Can you hear the Hawaiian music influence in this song? Robbins loved Hawaiian music.
Who in their right mind would put a thumbs down for anything this wonderful man sang? No one had a more beautiful voice than Marty. He not only had the most beautiful voice, he was also the most amazing man I have ever known.
HELLO 👋 I SECOND THAT EMOTION !!!! OH YOU MUST ALSO LISTEN TO ( JOHNNY RODRIGUEZ SONGS AND JOHNNY TILLOTSON AND CONNIE FRANCIS AND SKEETER DAVIS & HERE A SONG FOR YOU LISTEN TO THE RYTHEM OF THE FALLING RAIN !!!! ( MERLE HAGGARD ) RICKY NELSON ) BEAUTIFUL MUSIC 🎶 🎵 ♥️ THANKS
I was a child of the 60s and played Devil Woman at home because I loved his voice. In first grade our teacher asked us for names of favorite Christmas carols and wrote them on the chalk board. I didn't know what she was talking about but noticed a religious theme. I thought hard & came up with a song with anything religious sounding in the title. "Devil Woman" I suggested. I loved this Marty Robbins song but didn't understand the lyrics. I just loved his vocals. The teacher's face...priceless. The other kids laughed. She didn't write it on the board and I realized I'd done something wrong. She must have talked to Mom because that winter my mom (who must have been embarrassed) played ALL THE CAROLS ever. On the radio, on albums she must have bought just because of the teacher's talk with her. We listened, we sang, and finally I knew what carols were. It's not that my family didn't celebrate Christmas--though it changed after Great-grandpa died on Christmas day, 1965. But they were too busy telling each other stories to sing carols. They'd stopped going to church regularly by then. Disclaimer: no actual devils are involved in the song Devil Woman. I think she got a bum rap. By today's standards, the other woman is getting the blame for the husband's choices, right? Still the vocals are beautiful and I understand why I played it over and over on Mom's record player.
My Dad & Mom would go see Marty perform at our local fair whenever he played. Last show was supposed to be over by 10-11...Marty would continue to sing until 1 or 2 am. My Dad thought he was one of the all time greats.
Fred Carter Jr is the guitarist on a lot of hits by Marty. He's right behind Marty in this video. The guy was such a great session player. His guitar work on El Paso is legendary. I'm in my 70's now so as a guitarist myself, I've been digging him for a long time.
Fred Carter Jr, was one of the great guitarist out of Nashville, but that was Jack Pruett, long time band member behind playing lead guitar. Grady Martin played lead on the original recording of El Paso, Devil Woman, Don't Worry and many others but not on live shows.
This live recording shines so bright... Man, I have been a fan of Mr. Robbins for so long I cannot exactly, uh, remember when it began. I can listen to (and watch) this a whole bunch of times. Do many of you think this is priceless? It is, btw.
Some voices are so unique, like Marty Robbins,. Combination of Robbins voice and really good ballads will never come our way again. Truly lost art. I really love this live version.
WOW! Marty's voice is so,so good & wasn't he a good looking dude in his early years. Love all of his music from my youth to now. He will always be loved & remembered by his millions of fans worldwide. From a 72yo Aussie fan.
The way he hits the notes on the chorus is amazing. Such a soothing and graceful voice and im grateful he blessed us with it. Thank you Marty and rest in peace.
The first time I heard this song on the radio, I didn't know it was Marty Robbins singing, and it wouldn't have mattered. I'd never heard of him, and I didn't know the song was country. What I did know after one hearing was that the voice on that record seemed to be singing in a weightless environment. The singer could do anything he wanted, and he was having a world of fun doing it. Years later, when I knew Marty's reputation, and that I'd heard him sing this song, all I could think was, "Yep, the man's as good as his legend."
Great country singer, and according to the guys who raced with him, an unrealized driving talent. Glad to see him get appreciation in the NASCAR community for the throwback weekend the past few years.
I just turned 30 on the 24th of July and I remember hearing Marty Robbin's in my great grandmas house, no matter what music I listen too I always come back to this era of music.
My husband and I grew up over 1200 miles apart but we know the same old songs. Our parents listen to all the same songs. Its funny when we hear a song like this and we both start singing away. Its awesome!
I remember listening to him for this first time in the cab of my fathers 18 wheeler jamming down the road when I was a very young boy. What good memories! I really miss those days!
Devil Woman was the first record I bought (and I still have it).... Marty is my genius of Country and Western Music. I have all of his music, singles, LPs, CDs.... I just love him to pieces. .... There will never be another... he was one of a kind 💖💖💖💖💖💖. I once was asked if I had the chance to go back in time and had the choice to meet him or Elvis, who I would choose.... the answer was VERY easy, at least for me - of course only Marty 😘
Billy C. LeWorth He raced on the weekend, and usually asked to be on the Grand Ol' Opry last, so he could race, then drive across town and perform. In those days, he was the most down to earth guy you'd ever meet. The Nashville Speedway, as it was called, was at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. Some friends of mine were there each week, as one of them was a mechanic, and worked for "their" guy during the week. They knew Marty well enough, that he spoke to them by name. Jimmy Griggs was the competing driver they helped. He raced a long time, but had to quit because of brain damage received in a wreck. Back then, his shop was at the end of my street. I guess this is useless information for most of you. It comes from living 65 years.
John Smith Still a cool story though , I'm just turning 50 this fall and I live in Canada . My exposure to Marty was only through film and his records so you're lucky to have been closer .
I woke up with this song playing in my head. I remembered a few of the lyrics, but had forgotten it was by Marty Robbins. One of the perks of growing older - having a vast archive of songs going back 60 years and more stored in your memory. My sisters were big fans of Marty, they had all his records.
Marty was the consumate country showman. Excellent vocals and songs. He was gone much too soon, but considering the heart issues, he lived longer than he should have, and that was a gift to us.
my grandparents, aunties, and uncles used to listen to this song when i was a kid and i used to hear it too. i love this song so much although im still in my 40s.
This is one of the most awesome pieces of music because of simplicity, presence and joy.. Solo, harmony, no flaw. Beautiful background mysterious characters all coming together for the magic.
The earliest of my childhood memories were of my mother playing Marty Robbins albums in the 70’s. Even as a small child I found his voice so appealing. Been a fan as long as I can remember.
Ive just discovered marty Robbins at 70 years of age Wow. Effortless singing, loverly tremor bass alto proper story and great backing singers. Please please what else has he done? Tankfly ralph xx♥️♥️
He was one of my dad's favorite singers. Mine too. I was driving to Houston from California and Just before getting to Dallas I heard Larry singing (truck driver) on my CB radio. He was singing Marty's music and sounded just like Marty. if your out here Larry keep singing.
