I knew this day would come I started noticing a lot of influencers I followed started picking up regular jobs I give alot of these influencers two to three years until influencing dies out

The problem is that most people don’t seem to approach influencing as a business. If they did, they probably wouldn’t have quit their job too soon.

I doubt that as they aren’t doing it right. There will always be trendsetter just they have to set themselves up as a business and value it

Well, keep in mind that RU-vid is FREE entertainment, unless you’re paying the subscription. So let the creators make money somehow. I agree that most people have a hard time identifying red flags, so pay close attention to their content and choose wisely. Not all creators lie or are immoral!!

It’s weird for me because I don’t take peoples word as law…ever which is why I’m never surprised when stuff like this happens. Even my fave influencers, I see what they say but I never have expectations that the product will work the same because by nature, humans react very different to very different things and products are not one size fit all and I understand that as a consumer. So that lowers my expectation. It just blows my mind. Now I understand everyone being pissed but humans are just imperfect and even the greatest that we look up to will most definitely make mistakes. I can’t imagine if everyone saw my mistakes on display like hers. Grant it, she is a “public figure” and needs to be responsible and hold herself accountable and stop being over here gaslighting and lying.

I loved everything about this sit down. I understand both perspectives clearly and fully. The thing is, viewers (consumers) must certainly take accountability. Content creators/influencers, does exactly that, influence. However, no one is “forcing” us to purchase ANYTHING! Great content! We need people like you on this platform.

I think the whole thing is silly. She shouldn’t have lied and gaslit about lashes, but she did so just stop supporting her or don’t buy the product. Majority of her followers are grown adults or of age to know that everyone lies about something. Big or small. When influencers reviews products we know that most are being paid for it, we should take what they say with a grain of salt, and test it out ourselves. I hope people keep this energy with racist Jeffree’s “come back”.

I didn't hear about that mascaragate. I'm glad this wasn't about the other mascara situation that is allegedly very traumatic. Deinfluencers are aggravating, because while everyone isn't living extravagant lives, they seem so obsessed with proving it's impossible or unachievable. When it's right there, they don't have to be anti influencer.

Let’s just call it what it is. It’s an Anti-Haul. There was no need to rebrand that as de-influencing because it makes no since. Nothing wrong with saying a product isn’t worth it for you, but let’s not act like we’re better than someone just for rebranding Anti-Hauls.

I would argue that there's a difference between influencing and content creation. Influencing is sales. I view your work and the work of most people I follow as content creation. They may recommend products or have sponsors, but that isn't why I'm watching their content. I'm watching their content for their viewpoint. When I watched makeup influencers back in the day it was so that I knew what products to buy.

Great description! I think “content creator” is like supporting an independent artisan. It’s a wonderful privilege and awesome way that we can support people!! Influencers as celebrities… separate issue altogether 😅

I think consumers should feel safe to take the recommendation of their favourite influencer and the influencer should be transparent and not lie about the product But if the product doesn't work, or they have a bad experience, the consumer should not blame the influencer and drag them to the ground. Not every product will work for everyone. So unless it's cases like these or others where a lack of transparency and deceit exists, maybe consumers should do a bit more research before purchasing things as well take it up with the brand when there's an issue, not blame the influencer. Edit: I ramble a bit so to sum up my opinion. Influencers should be held accountable for lying about a product and their opinion/feelings/review on it BUT should not be held accountable if a product they reviewed/ got sponsored from gives someone issues (in cases where the influencer did no wrong) Rather the consumer should then take it up with the brand

Those definitely were false lashes. The girlies know 😂. That’s why it’s good to use your better judgement with anything. Most higher end products have dupes nowadays with drugstore prices.

I love to hear the RU-vidr side because I did a video, filmed , edited … re-edited and that one vid was so time consuming and I think it’s easy to say people just want to waste our time but that’s allllotttt of work to put in just to be malicious . If that person is doing that , they built different & I don’t mean in a positive light.

Fake “positive “ reviews are a real thing though. So yeah I’m definitely going to not trust a product that has a BUNCH of positive reviews.

De-influencing in itself is STILL influencing. The creator is still trying to influence the watcher’s decisions except instead of influencing them to purchase a product they are influencing them to do the opposite…I don’t understand the superiority complex as if they aren’t doing the same thing 🫠 also this being a gateway for jeff starfish to come back is just…
