"This week was full of surprises and of course, long days... What we didn't expect was a tiny bummer lamb born at the start of our flooring adventures who would require round the clock care. Nor, did we expect something as simple as a few joist hangers to slow us down; but, they did. This week was good. This week taught us that this build was going to be full of delights and unforseen obstacles. We have full faith that things will work out. TIP: when cutting with a circular saw, use your LARGE speed square as an edge guide so your cut runs straight.

I built my home with the same type of joists. One BIG thing to remember, when you start placing the decking over the joists, use some form of wood glue. This will halp reduce the squeak in the floor later.

And screws over nails, the sqeak "repair" kits are all basically just screws to bite back into the joists.

@@anand8905 Now that NO VOC is the mandate the water based glues don't do the trick. We use Urethane Foam guns for subfloors. Part of the New and Improved Movement. Be Blessed

Out here in CA our home d. was using the "deck screw" which are so high quality U can recycle them in projects. Original design was an internal square head with phillips, now have gone to the 12 point torx design which is much better drive system.

Suggestion, when running your electric, install a few electrical outlets & some lighting in the crawlspace. You may need it at some point in the future if you have to do any repairs. You are in the country, so you are going to have rats or mice eventually under there. So any wires should probably be in conduit. Just a suggestion 😊.

I think it's awesome that you are keeping your children involved in building their house. Not only is it a memory they will always cherish, and stories to tell their children/grandchildren but also ingrains how much can be done with some hard work. At 10 years old my Dad taught me how to do carpentry, masonry, plumbing and electrical when we built an extension on our house. Such great talents to pass on!

Things are coming together! Woo Hoo!! Speaking of 'things', "things" certainly are different from when my Dad built houses, and I did carpentry. Wood beams instead of steel beams, pony walls instead of jack posts, manufactured floor joist instead of 2" x 10". The times they are a changing. I "might" give momma sheep one more chance...

I'd be putting ewe and lamb together in the small space with oldest daughter as watchman on the wall. The ewe isn't going to warm to her lamb if you keep taking it away. Ewe needs to hear the lamb crying for her and she will eventually reply. It's a bonding that needs to be supported not taken over. You can always top up the lamb feed if it's not getting enough but if you want them to bond you need to create the environment. The ewe isn't wild, she's used to being petted and being in human company. Better you help them coexist than humans become surrogate mothers. Always remember the lamb is an animal , not a human... God made a huge difference between the 2. Much love as you work together as hubby and helpmate.... I love the way you're doing it. It makes Gods heart happy also. Blessings🤗💞🙏

I was brought up on a farm with over 100 sheep in Ireland, some animals go through a kind of post natal depression after giving birth that causes them to reject their newborn, you can tie the ewe in a narrow crate, we used to make from pallet wood, so that the lamb can have access to the rear of the ewe to suckle but the ewe is unable to turn around, also only feed the ewe when the lamb is suckling , with regular lactation the ewes eventually settled down, plus the lambs get so persistent that the ewes give up pushing them away. It's well worth the effort at the beginning in order to not have to bottle feed, especially if you have a lot of sheep.

We had to do the same with goats and cattle on the farm. Look for directions on a stanchion or farrowing crate to get an idea on what to build. A lot of first time moms have issues especially if given to much space or if they have never seen other moms with lambs.

PRO TIP- put your DWV Drain Pipes in crawlspace before you place all Joists. Physics come into play with a little Houdini to get 3-4" pipes under there without cutting them down to short pieces then you will have to add more couplings, more work, more money, more leaks, more parts, MORE TIME. Same goes for the crawlspace wall rigid insulation and crawlspace vapor barrier to be installed later. Be Blessed

Looking good, don't forget your mid-span blocking, over the pony walls and where needed. When it comes to putting the T&G sheeting , snap your line, tongue edge out or removed. Use sub-floor adhesive, and use screw, or ring shank nails. You can also rent the sheeting screwgun and use the clips of screws, for a nice quiet floor. Don't mind sharing my 25years of experience. No one ever plans too become disabled, but you rise above and make the best of it. Take care until next time and God bless amen. ☺👍

Jeremy, back in 1985 I moved from Tokyo to Honolulu for a two year stint as an on-air broadcaster and baard-op at two of Hawai'i's radio stations: KGU Talkradio 76 & KHVH Newsradio 99. I lived in Salt Lake, Lower Manoa and Ainahaina. I loved it, even though the pay was terrible. It was nice to walk home from work and pick fruit off of trees to supplement my much-needed vitamins! While living briefly in the USA in my 40s (early 60s now) I drove through Idaho while moving myself from southeastern Pennsylvania to Portland, Oregon for work. Idaho was beautiful in some places, but looked like a Mars-scape in others. The residents/service providers were nice and polite. All the time growing up with goats and sheep I do not ever recall a mother goat or sheep rejecting her baby. But, even back in the 1970's, we did hear stories of it happening rarely. As I recall from all those years ago, what we heard was that when this did happen it was almost always first time mothers?

Jeremy get a couple 100' air hoses for your air compressor, you loose voltage on a little long cord but you don't loose air pressure in a hose. It'll save your air compressor.

I was going to mention the voltage drop on the long extension, too. I loaned a neighbor my hoist to help him pull his well pump about 200 ft from his house. He ran 14 gauge extension cords to power the hoist. But, the voltage drop over such a thin extension over that distance was significant enough to increase the amperage and burned out one of the motor's coils on my hoist. Arrgh! Of course, there will also be a pressure drop over long distances of hose, so he'll need to increase the pressure at the compressor. I'd attach a pressure gauge on end of the hose then the tool to the gauge. But, that's me. If he doesn't need constant power, a 2kW solar generator might be an option. Maybe not. Power tools pull a lot of power. Just a thought, for whatever it's worth.

I hope that you have considered all that must go under the floor including long pieces of waste piping etc. It may be very difficult or impossible to get stuff inside without an external hatch. The interior access may be okay after the house is built but during the build access from outside sure is handy. Sometimes you have to think many steps ahead while building to save you headaches later in the process.

Y’all should install a temporary power supply close to the house. That would probably be pretty expensive though. You could use your box trailer as a tool trailer to hold all your tools while you’re building your house.
