Christians understand with the mind the Biblical concept of being saved by God's grace that we receive through faith in Jesus, but struggle to grasp it within the heart where its most needed. This leads to reading, interpreting, and applying Scripture verses as legalistic formulas for earning God's approval or for getting what we want from him. If our expressions of worship such as praise, prayer, sacrificing for others, feeding the poor, sharing the Gospel, or attending church, etc, are done to get God's approval or to get something in return from God, the worship is done in vain. Worship is not something we trade to God for something in return, but rather, are various expressions of our adoration, love, joy, and gratitude to God, for His grace toward us in Jesus Christ; Acts of worship we participate in, with no other end or goal in mind, except to glorify God and to see Him exalted through you.
