I seem to remember, a time shortly after poker on TV was losing most of its popularity, hearing that the Mouth was totally broke and a few pros pitched in to get him back on his feet.
He knows. Mike wasn't as much as a fish as his play would indicate either. Yeah he was outclassed, but a lot of his ridiculous nitty play was by design because at this point he was being bankrolled into these cash games and often times only had one bullet to fire in the game.
All of the Full Tilt players were using borrowed money. No risk to their bank account and getting paid to advertise on these shows. They were using Ponzi money, essentially.
@@KEEPlT1K Full Tilt were giving their players money that online players/customers were depositing into their player's accounts. In other words, millions of dollars was being used to finance tournament buyins and cash games, when the money should have remained in Full Tilts bank account in case players/customers withdrew their money. In 2008/2009, that's exactly what happened. The US government banned online poker. When players tried to withdraw their money, most of it was gone. Howard Lederer and Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan and Chris Ferguson and Annie Duke were caught in a Ponzi scheme; they essentially funneled millions of dollars out of FT that should never have been touched. That's the money you see in play on these cash games, and on all episodes of poker from 2006-2009.
I have seen him playing in big tournaments years ago on ESPN. He can play really well at times, but when he lets his temper go he donkeys big time ! I really enjoy watching the older tournaments. RIP Mike Sexton.... 😒
@@rafaelito1981 I played professionally for a few years, I think I know what I´m talking about. Tournament winnings are gross figures, not counting buy-ins or staking. It is a well known fact in the poker world that MM was and is always broke.
@@Burneraccountwisdom I have heard those stories of him borrowing $$$ to play tournaments. Also his jail time years ago. He just seems tortured by his past .
@@Burneraccountwisdom Matusow was a really talented player in his era. You don't see it on display here or in most televised cash games from this circa, but you have to know his personal situation to understand why. There is a good bit of tournament footage that show Mike in a better light, but by the time these big cash games were being televised Mike had already gone broke and to prison, and he was being backed by other players to even be able to play. Mike has said himself many times that having to be bankrolled into these games and literally only having one bullet to fire is what turned him into a total nit.
Just imagine how lost and dense you have to be to have a profile pic as ridiculous and preposterous as the one you have. May God bless you with His Truth and have mercy on your soul. 😞✝🙏
@@maliciouspig8494 True. All but one..✝ And that's the one he chose in the profile pic. Because the devil knows it's the only true threat. Everything else is a work of Satan.
Hes a tourney player, never was good at cash games. He's probably playing weird like this because of that also. I really dont see him ever checking down with KK like that in a tournament. He doesn't wanna play big pots
The "almost goes broke" part was from action prior to what we see in this video: Mike bought in for $100,000 and went all the way down to $14,000... and that is where this video starts as he goes all in, triples up and then starts his comeback.
@@leostark7943 Mike was All in with measly 14K. I say measly because the whole table had him covered by heaps. YES, HE WAS ALMOST BROKE.. NOT a misleading title.
When they were talking about playing criss cross LOL 20k. That's some home game s***... When Mike had Kings you saw Phil thinking about it with the 7-2 he wanted to f*** with his buddy... It was no great recovery by Mike though the cards played themselves he could have made a lot more money in a lot of spots
easy to be a poker commentator. If you guess right your the genius if you guess wrong and the player wins, he's the genius. Or just say"I wouldn't do that but it worked out this time"
Matasow was just not aggressive enough too cautious to worried somebody always has a better hand doesn't bet his hand for Value way he played the Kings was terrible.. new breed of cash players guys like Garrett adelstein many others would absolutely crush matusow and hellmuth with their old style of Poker playing by feel
@@somepeoplecanthandlethetruth of course you do I get it I've been playing live thirty years exploitive is a lot of Poker live but matasow and Hellmuth seem to be still stuck in the old school style of Poker when you combine that with the newer style it's a deadly combo I don't feel they have enough of the new style of play and you can't tell me that mutasow played that like crap with AA against Garrett on latb
@@somepeoplecanthandlethetruth how about the last hand where he makes three queens and Just bets out instantly against ivey who floated the Flop and would have probably made a play for the pot it's such an easy check there and he just bets out cuz he's scared and wants the pot right away he's not creative enough.. plays such an ABC style of Poker it's ridiculous.. how many tries to put people on an exact hand instead of a range.. he should stick to Omaha Hi-Lo
@@somepeoplecanthandlethetruth he checked the flop an the turn in position queen-high flop with kk.. absolutely terrible terrible poker.. then says I put you on queen queen hahajahaa
You guys are poker geniuses when you can see the hole cards of the opponent during the hand. If you are so good why aren't you playing on TV rather than watching a RU-vid video criticizing some one who is ?
If i was feldman i would have folded or CALLED, you gotta figure ziggy has good cards , calling with people behind so if a crap flop comes you can shove, then again it is ziggy so....
That check on Antonius was brilliant, good trap. Not sure what the announcer is on, but if an ace hits on the turn and then I get raised, I’m gonna fold unless I have it beat.
nice video but the commentary is awfull in my opinion. They were constantly making suggestions that were objectively bad, but knowing what the other guy has were good.
It can be hard to look back: David Tuchman and Robert Williamson III were actually one of the better commentating duos "back in the 'olden days" (especially for the stuff recorded in the UK)
100% agree. They just said whatever was objectively right when you could see the whole cards. "Yeah I'd play that perfectly because I can see the hand" basically
@@somepeoplecanthandlethetruth just tell me where and when . He ripped a lot of people of and scammed them three cheating online play . He should be banded for life from all poker tournaments
Mike started with $100K and basically lost almost all of it to where he was down to $14K left... thats where this video starts off from. So he was almost broke, they just didn't show all the hands he was losing to get to this point.
Phil Ivey has got to be the most overrated poker player. He uses his “scary reputation” to get people to fold, as if he always has the best hand. Total scumbag.
@@dustinbridgeman4965 his career earnings are on par with other professional poker players, but it’s also come to light that he was involved in numerous cheating scandals so there’s that too. But even if he wasn’t involved in cheating scandals, I still think he’s a way overrated player but you can cozy up to him if you like
You obviously don't watch him play these days if you think people always fold against him. He isnt doing well these days at poker as players are no longer scared of him. And anyway, your complaint is stupid, as if he represents the best hand and people believe him, that is exactly what he is supposed to do as a poker player, and bluff. Maybe you dont understand bluffing, it is when you pretend to have a strong hand, Ivey knows this, apparently you don't.
@@johnnyhartley4330 I know what bluffing is you momo. I was simply saying that in his heyday, other players gave him way too much credit too much of the time
@@AdamF89 Yes, but what you don't understand is that is the whole point of Ivey's play, he could read opponents so well, so knew which players would fold under his pressure. So criticising him for playing so well is kind of silly.
